30AND HE DID BALAK JUST AS HE HAD SAID BALAAM AND HE OFFERED UP A YOUNG BULL AND A RAM ON THE ALTAR 30So Balak did as Balaam had instructed, and he offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
1AND HE SAW BALAAM THAT IT WAS GOOD IN [THE] EYES OF YAHWEH TO BLESS <OBJ.> ISRAEL AND NOT HE WENT AS TIME ON TIME TO MEET OMENS AND HE SET TO THE WILDERNESS FACE HIS Balaam’s Third Oracle 1And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he did not seek omens as on previous occasions, but he turned his face toward the wilderness.
2AND HE LIFTED UP BALAAM <OBJ.> EYES HIS AND HE SAW <OBJ.> ISRAEL DWELLING TO TRIBES ITS AND IT CAME ON HIM [THE] SPIRIT OF GOD 2When Balaam looked up and saw Israel encamped tribe by tribe, the Spirit of God came upon him,
3AND HE LIFTED UP ORACLE HIS AND HE SAID [THE] UTTERANCE OF BALAAM SON HIS BEOR AND [THE] UTTERANCE OF THE MAN <THE> OPENED OF THE EYE 3and he lifted up an oracle, saying: “This is the prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of a man whose eyes are open,
4[THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] [ONE WHO] HEARS <OF> [THE] WORDS OF GOD WHO <THE> VISION OF [THE] ALMIGHTY HE SEES [WHO] FALLS DOWN AND [WHO] IS UNCOVERED OF EYES 4the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who sees a vision from the Almighty,*NoteCloseHebrew Shaddai; also in verse 16 who bows down with eyes wide open:
5HOW! THEY ARE GOOD TENTS YOUR O JACOB DWELLING PLACES YOUR O ISRAEL 5How lovely are your tents, O Jacob, your dwellings, O Israel!
6LIKE WADIS [WHICH] THEY ARE STRETCHED OUT LIKE GARDENS AT A RIVER LIKE ALOES [WHICH] HE HAS PLANTED YAHWEH LIKE CEDARS AT WATERS 6They spread out like palm groves,*NoteCloseOr like valleys like gardens beside a stream, like aloes the LORD has planted, like cedars beside the waters.
7IT WILL FLOW WATER FROM BUCKETS ITS AND OFFSPRING ITS [WILL BE] IN WATERS MANY AND HE MAY BE HIGH MORE THAN AGAG KING ITS SO IT MAY BE EXALTED KINGDOM ITS 7Water will flow from his buckets, and his seed will have abundant water. His king will be greater than Agag, and his kingdom will be exalted.
8GOD [IS] BRINGING OUT IT FROM EGYPT LIKE [THE] HORNS OF A WILD OX [BELONG] TO <THE> HIM IT WILL CONSUME NATIONS OPPONENTS ITS AND BONES THEIR IT WILL BREAK AND ARROWS ITS IT WILL WOUND [THEM] 8God brought him out of Egypt with strength like a wild ox to devour hostile nations and crush their bones, to pierce them with arrows.
9IT CROUCHED IT LAY DOWN LIKE A LION AND LIKE A LION WHO? WILL HE ROUSE IT [THOSE WHO] BLESS YOU [BE] BLESSED AND [THOSE WHO] CURSE YOU [BE] CURSED 9He crouches, he lies down like a lion, like a lioness— who dares to rouse him? Blessed are those who bless you and cursed are those who curse you.”
10AND IT BURNED [THE] ANGER OF BALAK ON BALAAM AND HE CLAPPED <OBJ.> HANDS HIS AND HE SAID BALAK TO BALAAM TO CURSE ENEMIES MY I SUMMONED YOU AND HERE! YOU HAVE BLESSED ACTUALLY <BLESS> THIS THREE TIMES Balak Dismisses Balaam 10Then Balak’s anger burned against Balaam, and he struck his hands together and said to Balaam, “I summoned you to curse my enemies, but behold, you have persisted in blessing them these three times.
11AND THEREFORE FLEE FOR <THE> YOURSELF TO PLACE YOUR I SAID SURELY <HONOR> I WILL HONOR YOU AND HERE! HE HAS WITHHELD YOU YAHWEH FROM HONOR 11Therefore flee at once to your home! I said I would reward you richly, but instead the LORD has denied your reward.”
12AND HE SAID BALAAM TO BALAK ¿ NOT ALSO TO MESSENGERS YOUR WHOM YOU SENT TO ME DID I SPEAK <TO> SAYING 12Balaam answered Balak, “Did I not already tell the messengers you sent me
13IF HE WILL GIVE TO <THE> ME BALAK [THE] FULLNESS OF HOUSE HIS SILVER AND GOLD NOT I WILL BE ABLE TO TRANSGRESS <OBJ.> [THE] MOUTH OF YAHWEH BY DOING A GOOD THING OR A BAD THING FROM OWN HEART MY [THAT] WHICH HE WILL SPEAK YAHWEH <OBJ.> IT I WILL SPEAK 13that even if Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not do anything of my own accord, good or bad, to go beyond the command of the LORD? I must speak whatever the LORD says.
14AND NOW HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO GO TO PEOPLE MY COME! I WILL ADVISE YOU [THAT] WHICH IT WILL DO THE PEOPLE <THE> THIS TO PEOPLE YOUR AT [THE] END OF THE DAYS 14Now I am going back to my people, but come, let me warn you what this people will do to your people in the days to come.”
15AND HE LIFTED UP ORACLE HIS AND HE SAID [THE] UTTERANCE OF BALAAM SON HIS BEOR AND [THE] UTTERANCE OF THE MAN <THE> OPENED OF THE EYE Balaam’s Fourth Oracle 15Then Balaam lifted up an oracle, saying, “This is the prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of a man whose eyes are open,
16[THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] [ONE WHO] HEARS <OF> [THE] WORDS OF GOD AND [THE] [ONE WHO] KNOWS <OF> [THE] KNOWLEDGE OF [THE] MOST HIGH <THE> VISION OF [THE] ALMIGHTY HE SEES [WHO] FALLS DOWN AND [WHO] IS UNCOVERED OF EYES 16the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who has knowledge from the Most High, who sees a vision from the Almighty, who bows down with eyes wide open:
17I SEE HIM AND NOT NOW I OBSERVE HIM AND NOT NEAR IT WILL MARCH FORTH A STAR FROM JACOB AND IT WILL ARISE A SCEPTER FROM ISRAEL AND IT WILL SHATTER [THE] CORNERS OF MOAB AND IT WILL DESTROY ALL [THE] DESCENDANTS OF SHETH 17I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come forth from Jacob, and a scepter will arise from Israel. He will crush the skulls*NoteCloseSP foreheads; Hebrew corners (of the head); LXX princes of Moab and strike down all the sons of Sheth.
18AND IT WILL BE EDOM A POSSESSION AND IT WILL BE A POSSESSION SEIR ENEMIES ITS AND ISRAEL [WILL BE] DOING STRENGTH 18Edom will become a possession, as will Seir, his enemy; but Israel will perform with valor.
19AND HE WILL RULE FROM JACOB AND HE WILL DESTROY [THE] SURVIVOR[S] FROM A CITY 19A ruler will come from Jacob and destroy the survivors of the city.”
20AND HE SAW <OBJ.> AMALEK AND HE LIFTED UP ORACLE HIS AND HE SAID [WAS THE] FIRST OF [THE] NATIONS AMALEK AND END ITS [WILL BE] TO DESTRUCTION Balaam’s Final Three Oracles 20Then Balaam saw Amalek and lifted up an oracle, saying: “Amalek was first among the nations, but his end is destruction.”
21AND HE SAW <OBJ.> THE KENITE[S] AND HE LIFTED UP ORACLE HIS AND HE SAID [IS] ENDURING DWELLING YOUR AND [IS] SET IN THE ROCK NEST YOUR 21Next he saw the Kenites and lifted up an oracle, saying: “Your dwelling place is secure, and your nest is set in a cliff.
22THAT EXCEPT IT WILL BECOME <INTO> CONSUMING [THE] KENITE[S] UNTIL WHEN? ASSHUR WILL IT TAKE CAPTIVE YOU 22Yet Kain will be destroyed when Asshur*NoteCloseOr Assyria; also in verse 24 takes you captive.”
23AND HE LIFTED UP ORACLE HIS AND HE SAID WOE! WHO? WILL HE LIVE FROM WHEN ORDAINS IT GOD 23Once more Balaam lifted up an oracle, saying: “Ah, who can live unless God has ordained it?
24AND SHIPS [WILL BE] FROM [THE] HAND OF KITTIM AND THEY WILL AFFLICT ASSHUR AND THEY WILL AFFLICT EBER AND ALSO IT [WILL BE] TO DESTRUCTION 24Ships will come from the coasts of Cyprus;*NoteCloseHebrew Kittim they will subdue Asshur and Eber, but they too will perish forever.”
25AND HE AROSE BALAAM AND HE WENT AND HE RETURNED TO PLACE HIS AND ALSO BALAK HE WENT TO WAY HIS 25Then Balaam arose and returned to his homeland, and Balak also went on his way.
