25AND HE AROSE BALAAM AND HE WENT AND HE RETURNED TO PLACE HIS AND ALSO BALAK HE WENT TO WAY HIS 25Then Balaam arose and returned to his homeland, and Balak also went on his way.
1AND IT REMAINED ISRAEL IN <THE> SHITTIM AND IT BEGAN THE PEOPLE TO COMMIT FORNICATION INTO [THE] DAUGHTERS OF MOAB Moab Seduces Israel (1 Corinthians 10:1–13) 1While Israel was staying in Shittim,*NoteCloseOr Acacia Grove the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with the daughters of Moab,
2AND THEY INVITED <TO> THE PEOPLE TO [THE] SACRIFICES OF GODS THEIR AND IT ATE THE PEOPLE AND THEY BOWED DOWN TO GODS THEIR 2who also invited them to the sacrifices for their gods. And the people ate and bowed down to these gods.
3AND IT JOINED ITSELF ISRAEL TO BAAL PEOR AND IT BURNED [THE] ANGER OF YAHWEH ON ISRAEL 3So Israel joined in worshiping Baal of Peor, and the anger of the LORD burned against them.
4AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO MOSES TAKE <OBJ.> ALL [THE] LEADERS OF THE PEOPLE AND IMPALE <OBJ.> THEM TO YAHWEH BEFORE THE SUN SO MAY IT TURN AWAY [THE] BURNING OF [THE] ANGER OF YAHWEH FROM ISRAEL 4Then the LORD said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of the people and execute them in broad daylight before the LORD, so that His fierce anger may turn away from Israel.”
5AND HE SAID MOSES TO [THE] JUDGES OF ISRAEL KILL EVERYONE MEN HIS WHO HAVE JOINED THEMSELVES TO BAAL PEOR 5So Moses told the judges of Israel, “Each of you must kill all of his men who have joined in worshiping Baal of Peor.”
6AND THERE! A MAN FROM [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL [WAS] COMING AND HE BROUGHT NEAR TO BROTHERS HIS <OBJ.> THE MIDIANITE [WOMAN] TO [THE] EYES OF MOSES AND TO [THE] EYES OF ALL [THE] CONGREGATION OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND THEY [WERE] WEEPING [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] TENT OF MEETING The Zeal of Phinehas 6Just then an Israelite man brought to his family a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and the whole congregation of Israel while they were weeping at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
7AND HE SAW [IT] PHINEHAS [THE] SON OF ELEAZAR [THE] SON OF AARON THE PRIEST AND HE AROSE FROM AMONG THE CONGREGATION AND HE TOOK A SPEAR IN HAND HIS 7On seeing this, Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, got up from the assembly, took a spear in his hand,
8AND HE WENT AFTER [THE] MAN OF ISRAEL INTO THE TENT AND HE PIERCED THROUGH <OBJ.> BOTH OF THEM <OBJ.> [THE] MAN OF ISRAEL AND <OBJ.> THE WOMAN INTO BELLY HER AND IT WAS RESTRAINED THE PLAGUE FROM ON [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL 8followed the Israelite into the tent, and drove the spear through both of them— through the Israelite and on through the belly of the woman. So the plague against the Israelites was halted,
9AND THEY WERE THOSE [WHO] DIED BY THE PLAGUE FOUR AND TWENTY THOUSAND 9but those who died in the plague numbered 24,000.
11PHINEHAS [THE] SON OF ELEAZAR [THE] SON OF AARON THE PRIEST HE HAS TURNED BACK <OBJ.> RAGE MY FROM AGAINST [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL BECAUSE WAS ZEALOUS HE <OBJ.> ZEAL MY IN MIDST OF THEM AND NOT I MADE AN END OF <OBJ.> [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL IN ZEAL MY 11“Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned My wrath away from the Israelites; for he was zealous for My sake among them, so that I did not consume the Israelites in My zeal.
12<TO> THEREFORE SAY HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO GIVE TO <THE> HIM <OBJ.> COVENANT MY PEACE 12Declare, therefore, that I am granting him My covenant of peace.
13AND IT WILL BELONG TO HIM AND TO OFFSPRING HIS AFTER HIM A COVENANT OF PRIESTHOOD OF PERPETUITY BECAUSE THAT HE WAS ZEALOUS FOR GOD HIS AND HE MADE ATONEMENT ON [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL 13It will be a covenant of permanent priesthood for him and his descendants, because he was zealous for his God and made atonement for the Israelites
14AND [THE] NAME OF [THE] MAN OF ISRAEL WHO WAS STRUCK DOWN WHO HE WAS STRUCK DOWN WITH THE MIDIANITE [WOMAN] [WAS] ZIMRI [THE] SON OF SALU A LEADER OF A HOUSE OF A FATHER OF THE SIMEONITE[S] 14The name of the Israelite who was slain with the Midianite woman was Zimri son of Salu, the leader of a Simeonite family.
15AND [THE] NAME OF THE WOMAN WHO WAS STRUCK DOWN THE MIDIANITE [WOMAN] [WAS] COZBI [THE] DAUGHTER OF ZUR [WAS] A LEADER OF TRIBES A HOUSE OF A FATHER IN MIDIAN HE 15And the name of the slain Midianite woman was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur, a tribal chief of a Midianite family.
17<TO> OPPOSE <OBJ.> THE MIDIANITES AND YOU WILL STRIKE DOWN <OBJ.> THEM 17“Attack the Midianites and strike them dead.
18FOR [ARE] OPPOSERS THEY <TO> <THE> YOU BY DECEITFULNESS<ES> THEIR WHICH THEY HAVE DEALT DECEPTIVELY TO <THE> YOU ON [THE] MATTER OF PEOR AND ON [THE] MATTER OF COZBI [THE] DAUGHTER OF [THE] LEADER OF MIDIAN SISTER THEIR WHO WAS STRUCK DOWN ON [THE] DAY OF THE PLAGUE ON [THE] MATTER OF PEOR 18For they assailed you deceitfully when they seduced you in the matter of Peor and their sister Cozbi, the daughter of the Midianite leader, the woman who was killed on the day the plague came because of Peor.”
