32WHO THE RIGHTEOUS DECREE <THE> OF GOD HAVING KNOWN THAT THOSE SUCH THINGS DOING WORTHY OF DEATH ARE, NOT ONLY THEM THEY ARE PRACTICING BUT ALSO THEY ARE APPROVING OF THOSE PRACTICING [THEM]. 32Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things are worthy of death, they not only continue to do these things, but also approve of those who practice them.
1THEREFORE INEXCUSABLE YOU ARE, O MAN EVERYONE YOU WHO [ARE] JUDGING; IN THAT WHICH FOR YOU JUDGE THE OTHER, YOURSELF YOU ARE CONDEMNING; <THE> FOR THE SAME THINGS YOU DO WHO ARE JUDGING. God’s Righteous Judgment (Psalm 75:1–10) 1You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on another. For on whatever grounds you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.
2WE KNOW HOWEVER THAT THE JUDGMENT <THE> OF GOD IS ACCORDING TO TRUTH UPON THOSE <THE> SUCH THINGS PRACTICING; 2And we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth.
3SUPPOSE YOU NOW THIS, O MAN YOU WHO [ARE] JUDGING THOSE <THE> SUCH THINGS PRACTICING AND DOING THEM [YOURSELF], THAT YOU YOURSELF WILL ESCAPE THE JUDGMENT <THE> OF GOD? 3So when you, O man, pass judgment on others, yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment?
4OR THE RICHES OF THE KINDNESS OF HIM AND THE FORBEARANCE AND THE PATIENCE DESPISE YOU NOT KNOWING THAT THE KINDNESS <THE> OF GOD TO REPENTANCE YOU LEADS? 4Or do you disregard the riches of His kindness, tolerance, and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you to repentance?
5BECAUSE OF HOWEVER THE HARDNESS OF YOU AND UNREPENTANT HEART YOU ARE TREASURING UP TO YOURSELF WRATH IN [THE] DAY OF WRATH AND REVELATION AND OF JUSTICE <THE> OF GOD, 5But because of your hard and unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.
6WHO WILL GIVE TO EACH ACCORDING TO THE WORKS OF HIM, 6God “will repay each one according to his deeds.”*NoteClosePsalm 62:12
7TO THOSE WHO INDEED WITH ENDURANCE IN WORK GOOD GLORY AND HONOR AND IMMORTALITY ARE SEEKING LIFE ETERNAL; 7To those who by perseverance in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life.
8TO THOSE HOWEVER OF SELF-INTEREST AND DISOBEYING INDEED THE TRUTH, BEING PERSUADED ABOUT HOWEVER <THE> UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, WRATH AND ANGER 8But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow wickedness, there will be wrath and anger.
9TRIBULATION AND DISTRESS UPON EVERY SOUL OF MAN WHICH IS WORKING THE EVIL, OF JEW BOTH FIRST AND ALSO OF GREEK; 9There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil, first for the Jew, then for the Greek;
10GLORY HOWEVER AND HONOR AND PEACE TO EVERYONE WHO IS DOING <THE> GOOD, TO JEW BOTH FIRST AND TO GREEK; 10but glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, first for the Jew, then for the Greek.
12AS MANY AS FOR WITHOUT [THE] LAW HAVE SINNED, WITHOUT [THE] LAW ALSO WILL PERISH; AND AS MANY AS IN [THE] LAW HAVE SINNED, THROUGH [THE] LAW WILL BE JUDGED; 12All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.
13NOT FOR THE HEARERS <THE> OF [THE] LAW [ARE] RIGHTEOUS WITH <THE> GOD, BUT THE DOERS <THE> OF [THE] LAW WILL BE JUSTIFIED. 13For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but it is the doers of the law who will be declared righteous.
14WHEN FOR GENTILES <THE> NOT THE LAW HAVING BY NATURE THE [THINGS] OF THE LAW THEY MAY DO, THESE [THE] LAW NOT HAVING TO THEMSELVES ARE A LAW, 14Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law.
15WHO SHOW THE WORK OF THE LAW WRITTEN IN THE HEARTS WHEN THEY ARE BEARING WITNESS TO THEM THEIR CONSCIENCE AND BETWEEN ONE ANOTHER THE THOUGHTS ACCUSING OR ALSO PRESENTING A DEFENSE 15So they show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts either accusing or defending them
16ON DAY WHEN JUDGES <THE> GOD THE SECRETS <THE> OF MEN ACCORDING TO THE GOSPEL OF MINE THROUGH CHRIST JESUS. 16on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Christ Jesus,*NoteCloseBYZ and TR through Jesus Christ as proclaimed by my gospel.
17IF HOWEVER YOU YOURSELF A JEW ARE CALLED AND YOU RELY ON THE LAW AND YOU BOAST IN GOD The Jews and the Law 17Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and boast in God;
18AND KNOW THE WILL AND APPROVE THE [THINGS] BEING SUPERIOR BEING INSTRUCTED OUT OF THE LAW; 18if you know His will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law;
19YOU ARE CONFIDENT THEN [THAT] YOU YOURSELF A GUIDE BEING OF [THE] BLIND, A LIGHT TO THOSE IN DARKNESS, 19if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those in darkness,
20AN INSTRUCTOR OF [THE] FOOLISH, A TEACHER OF INFANTS, HAVING THE EMBODIMENT <THE> OF KNOWLEDGE AND OF THE TRUTH IN THE LAW; 20an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth—
21YOU WHO [ARE] THEN TEACHING ANOTHER YOURSELF NOT DO YOU TEACH? YOU WHO [ARE] PREACHING NOT TO STEAL DO YOU STEAL? 21you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?
22YOU WHO [ARE] SAYING NOT TO COMMIT ADULTERY DO YOU COMMIT ADULTERY? YOU WHO [ARE] ABHORRING <THE> IDOLS DO YOU ROB TEMPLES? 22You who forbid adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?
23YOU WHO IN LAW BOAST, THROUGH THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW <THE> GOD DISHONOR YOU? 23You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?
24<THE> FOR THE NAME <THE> OF GOD THROUGH YOU IS BLASPHEMED AMONG THE GENTILES EVEN AS IT HAS BEEN WRITTEN. 24As it is written: God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”*NoteCloseIsaiah 52:5 (see also LXX)
25CIRCUMCISION INDEED FOR PROFITS IF [THE] LAW YOU SHALL DO; IF HOWEVER A TRANSGRESSOR OF LAW YOU SHALL BE, THE CIRCUMCISION OF YOU UNCIRCUMCISION HAS BECOME. 25Circumcision has value if you observe the law, but if you break the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
26IF THEREFORE THE UNCIRCUMCISION THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE LAW SHALL KEEP, SURELY THE UNCIRCUMCISION OF HIM FOR CIRCUMCISION WILL BE RECKONED? 26If a man who is not circumcised keeps the requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision?
27AND WILL JUDGE THE BY NATURE UNCIRCUMCISION THE LAW FULFILLING YOU WHO WITH [THE] LETTER AND CIRCUMCISION [ARE] A TRANSGRESSOR OF LAW. 27The one who is physically uncircumcised yet keeps the law will condemn you who, even though you have the written code and circumcision, are a lawbreaker.
28NOT FOR THE [ONE] ON THE OUTWARD A JEW IS, NEITHER THE [ONE] OUTWARDLY THE OUTWARD IN FLESH [IS] CIRCUMCISION, 28A man is not a Jew because he is one outwardly, nor is circumcision only outward and physical.
29BUT HE WHO [IS] ON THE INWARD A JEW [IS ONE], AND CIRCUMCISION [IS] OF HEART IN SPIRIT NOT IN LETTER, OF WHOM THE PRAISE [IS] NOT OF MEN BUT OF <THE> GOD. 29No, a man is a Jew because he is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise does not come from men, but from God.
