21SO THAT JUST AS REIGNED THE SIN IN <THE> DEATH, SO ALSO <THE> GRACE MAY REIGN THROUGH RIGHTEOUSNESS UNTO LIFE ETERNAL THROUGH JESUS CHRIST THE LORD OF US. 21so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
1WHAT THEN WILL WE SAY? SHALL WE CONTINUE <THE> IN SIN THAT <THE> GRACE MAY ABOUND? Dead to Sin, Alive to God (2 Corinthians 4:7–18) 1What then shall we say? Shall we continue in sin so that grace may increase?
2NEVER WOULD IT BE! WHO WE DIED <THE> TO SIN, HOW STILL WILL WE LIVE IN IT? 2Certainly not! How can we who died to sin live in it any longer?
3OR ARE YOU UNAWARE THAT AS MANY AS WERE BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST JESUS, INTO THE DEATH OF HIM WERE BAPTIZED? 3Or aren’t you aware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
4WE WERE BURIED THEREFORE WITH HIM THROUGH <THE> BAPTISM INTO <THE> DEATH, SO THAT JUST AS WAS RAISED UP CHRIST OUT FROM [THE] DEAD THROUGH THE GLORY OF THE FATHER, SO ALSO WE OURSELVES IN NEWNESS OF LIFE MAY WALK. 4We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life.
5IF FOR UNITED WE HAVE BECOME IN THE LIKENESS OF THE DEATH OF HIM, CERTAINLY ALSO OF THE RESURRECTION WE WILL BE; 5For if we have been united with Him like this in His death, we will certainly also be united with Him in His resurrection.
6THIS KNOWING THAT THE OLD OF US SELF WAS CRUCIFIED WITH [HIM], SO THAT MAY BE ANNULLED THE BODY <THE> OF SIN [THAT] NO LONGER BEING ENSLAVED WE <THE> TO SIN. 6We know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.
7THE [ONE] FOR HAVING DIED HE HAS BEEN FREED FROM <THE> SIN. 7For anyone who has died has been freed from sin.
8IF NOW WE DIED WITH CHRIST, WE BELIEVE THAT ALSO WE WILL LIVE WITH HIM, 8Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him.
9KNOWING THAT CHRIST HAVING BEEN RAISED UP OUT FROM [THE] DEAD NO LONGER DIES; DEATH OVER HIM NO LONGER RULES. 9For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, He cannot die again; death no longer has dominion over Him.
10THAT WHICH FOR HE DIED, <THE> TO SIN HE DIED ONCE FOR ALL; THAT WHICH HOWEVER HE LIVES, HE LIVES <THE> TO GOD. 10The death He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life He lives, He lives to God.
11SO ALSO <YOU YOURSELVES> DO CONSIDER YOURSELVES TO BE DEAD INDEED <THE> TO SIN LIVING HOWEVER <THE> TO GOD IN CHRIST JESUS THE LORD OF US. 11So you too must count yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
12NOT THEREFORE SHOULD REIGN <THE> SIN IN THE MORTAL OF YOU BODY IN ORDER <THE> TO OBEY IT IN THE DESIRES OF IT, 12Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires.
13NEITHER DO YIELD THE MEMBERS OF YOU [AS] INSTRUMENTS OF UNRIGHTEOUSNESS <THE> TO SIN, BUT DO YIELD YOURSELVES <THE> TO GOD AS OUT FROM [THE] DEAD LIVING AND THE MEMBERS OF YOU [AS] INSTRUMENTS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS <THE> TO GOD. 13Do not present the parts of your body to sin as instruments of wickedness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and present the parts of your body to Him as instruments of righteousness.
14SIN FOR YOU NOT WILL RULE OVER; NOT FOR YOU ARE UNDER LAW BUT UNDER GRACE. 14For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
15WHAT THEN? SHALL WE SIN BECAUSE NOT WE ARE UNDER LAW BUT UNDER GRACE? NEVER WOULD IT BE! The Wages of Sin 15What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law, but under grace? Certainly not!
16NOT KNOW YOU THAT TO WHOM YOU YIELD YOURSELVES [AS] SLAVES FOR OBEDIENCE, SLAVES YOU ARE TO HIM WHOM YOU OBEY, WHETHER OF SIN TO DEATH OR OF OBEDIENCE TO RIGHTEOUSNESS? 16Do you not know that when you offer yourselves as obedient slaves, you are slaves to the one you obey, whether you are slaves to sin leading to death, or to obedience leading to righteousness?
17THANKS [BE] HOWEVER <THE> TO GOD THAT YOU WERE SLAVES <THE> OF SIN, YOU HAVE BECOME OBEDIENT NOW FROM [THE] HEART TO WHICH YOU WERE HANDED OVER TO THE FORM OF TEACHING. 17But thanks be to God that, though you once were slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were committed.
18HAVING BEEN SET FREE NOW FROM <THE> SIN YOU HAVE BECOME SLAVES <THE> TO RIGHTEOUSNESS. 18You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
19IN HUMAN TERMS I SPEAK ON ACCOUNT OF THE WEAKNESS OF THE FLESH OF YOU. FOR AS FOR YOU YIELDED THE MEMBERS OF YOU [AS] SLAVES <THE> TO IMPURITY AND <THE> TO LAWLESSNESS UNTO <THE> LAWLESSNESS, SO NOW DO YIELD THE MEMBERS OF YOU [AS] SLAVES <THE> TO RIGHTEOUSNESS UNTO SANCTIFICATION. 19I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to escalating wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.
20WHEN FOR SLAVES YOU WERE <THE> OF SIN, FREE YOU WERE <THE> FROM RIGHTEOUSNESS. 20For when you were slaves to sin, you were free of obligation to righteousness.
21WHAT THEREFORE FRUIT HAD YOU THEN IN THE [THINGS] OF WHICH NOW YOU ARE ASHAMED? THE FOR END OF THOSE THINGS [IS] DEATH. 21What fruit did you reap at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? The outcome of those things is death.
22NOW HOWEVER HAVING BEEN SET FREE FROM <THE> SIN HAVING BECOME SLAVES NOW <THE> TO GOD YOU HAVE THE FRUIT OF YOU UNTO SANCTIFICATION, <THE> NOW THE END [IS] LIFE ETERNAL. 22But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the fruit you reap leads to holiness, and the outcome is eternal life.
23THE FOR WAGES <THE> OF SIN [IS] DEATH, <THE> BUT THE GIFT <THE> OF GOD LIFE ETERNAL IN CHRIST JESUS THE LORD OF US. 23For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
