34AND IT BECAME BY THE MATTER <THE> THIS <INTO> [THE] SIN OF [THE] HOUSE OF JEROBOAM AND TO ANNIHILATE [IT] AND TO DESTROY [IT] FROM ON [THE] SURFACE OF THE GROUND 34And this was the sin of the house of Jeroboam that led to its extermination and destruction from the face of the earth.
1AT THE TIME <THE> THAT HE BECAME SICK ABIJAH [THE] SON OF JEROBOAM Ahijah’s Prophecy against Jeroboam 1At that time Abijah son of Jeroboam became ill,
2AND HE SAID JEROBOAM TO WIFE HIS ARISE PLEASE AND YOU WILL DISGUISE YOURSELF AND NOT PEOPLE WILL KNOW THAT YOU [ARE] [THE] WIFE OF JEROBOAM AND YOU WILL GO SHILOH THERE! [IS] THERE AHIJAH THE PROPHET HE HE SPOKE ON ME TO KING OVER THE PEOPLE <THE> THIS 2and Jeroboam said to his wife, “Now get up, disguise yourself so they will not recognize you as my wife, and go to Shiloh. For Ahijah the prophet is there; it was he who spoke about my kingship over this people.
3AND YOU WILL TAKE IN HAND YOUR TEN BREAD[S] AND CAKES AND A JAR OF HONEY AND YOU WILL GO TO HIM HE HE WILL TELL TO YOU WHAT? WILL IT HAPPEN TO THE LAD 3Take with you ten loaves of bread, some cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to him. He will tell you what will become of the boy.”
4AND SHE DID THUS [THE] WIFE OF JEROBOAM AND SHE AROSE AND SHE WENT SHILOH AND SHE WENT [THE] HOUSE OF AHIJAH AND AHIJAH NOT HE WAS ABLE TO SEE FOR THEY WERE FIXED EYES HIS FROM OLD AGE HIS 4Jeroboam’s wife did as instructed; she arose and went to Shiloh and arrived at Ahijah’s house. Now Ahijah could not see, for his eyes were dim because of his age.
5AND YAHWEH HE HAD SAID TO AHIJAH HERE! [THE] WIFE OF JEROBOAM [IS] ABOUT TO COME TO SEEK A WORD FROM WITH <THE> YOU CONCERNING SON HER FOR [IS] SICK HE LIKE THIS AND LIKE THIS YOU WILL SPEAK TO HER AND IT MAY BE WHEN COMES SHE AND SHE [WILL BE] ACTED AS A STRANGER 5But the LORD had said to Ahijah, “Behold, the wife of Jeroboam is coming to ask you about her son, for he is ill. You are to say such and such to her, because when she arrives, she will be disguised.”
6AND IT WAS WHEN HEARD AHIJAH <OBJ.> [THE] SOUND OF FEET HER COMING IN THE ENTRANCE AND HE SAID COME O WIFE OF JEROBOAM <TO> WHY? THIS [ARE] YOU ACTING AS A STRANGER AND I [HAVE BEEN] SENT TO YOU HARD 6So when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet entering the door, he said, “Come in, wife of Jeroboam! Why are you disguised? For I have been sent to you with bad news.
7GO SAY TO JEROBOAM THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL BECAUSE THAT I RAISED UP YOU FROM AMONG THE PEOPLE AND I MADE YOU A RULER OVER PEOPLE MY ISRAEL 7Go, tell Jeroboam that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I raised you up from among the people and appointed you ruler over My people Israel.
8AND I TORE AWAY <OBJ.> THE KINGDOM FROM [THE] HOUSE OF DAVID AND I GAVE IT TO YOU AND NOT YOU HAVE BEEN LIKE SERVANT MY DAVID WHO HE KEPT COMMANDMENTS MY AND WHO HE WALKED AFTER ME WITH ALL HEART HIS TO DO ONLY THE RIGHT IN VIEW MY 8I tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you. But you have not been like My servant David, who kept My commandments and followed Me with all his heart, doing only what was right in My eyes.
9AND YOU HAVE DONE EVIL TO ACT MORE THAN ALL [THOSE] WHO THEY WERE <TO> BEFORE YOU AND YOU HAVE GONE AND YOU HAVE MADE FOR YOURSELF GODS OTHER AND MOLTEN IMAGES TO PROVOKE TO ANGER ME AND <OBJ.> ME YOU HAVE CAST BEHIND BACK YOUR 9You have done more evil than all who came before you. You have proceeded to make for yourself other gods and molten images to provoke Me, and you have flung Me behind your back.
10<TO> THEREFORE HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO BRING CALAMITY TO [THE] HOUSE OF JEROBOAM AND I WILL CUT OFF TO JEROBOAM [ONE WHO] URINATES ON A WALL SHUT UP AND FREED IN ISRAEL AND I WILL SWEEP AWAY BEHIND [THE] HOUSE OF JEROBOAM JUST AS SOMEONE SWEEPS AWAY <THE> DUNG UNTIL IS COMPLETE IT 10Because of all this, behold, I am bringing disaster on the house of Jeroboam: I will cut off from Jeroboam every male,*NoteCloseLiterally (all) those who urinate against a wall both slave and free, in Israel; I will burn up the house of Jeroboam as one burns up dung until it is gone!
11THE [ONE WHO] DIES OF JEROBOAM IN THE CITY THEY WILL DEVOUR THE DOGS AND THE [ONE WHO] DIES IN THE OPEN COUNTRY THEY WILL DEVOUR [THE] BIRD[S] OF THE HEAVENS FOR YAHWEH HE HAS SPOKEN 11Anyone belonging to Jeroboam who dies in the city will be eaten by dogs, and anyone who dies in the field will be eaten by the birds of the air.’ For the LORD has spoken.
12AND YOU ARISE GO TO HOUSE YOUR WHEN GO FEET YOUR THE CITY TOWARDS AND HE WILL DIE THE CHILD 12As for you, get up and go home. When your feet enter the city, the child will die.
13AND THEY WILL MOURN FOR HIM ALL ISRAEL AND THEY WILL BURY <OBJ.> HIM FOR THIS [ONE] TO ONLY HIM HE WILL GO OF JEROBOAM INTO A GRAVE BECAUSE IT WAS FOUND IN HIM SOMETHING GOOD TO YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL IN [THE] HOUSE OF JEROBOAM 13All Israel will mourn for him and bury him. For this is the only one belonging to Jeroboam who will receive a proper burial,*NoteCloseLiterally who will come to the grave because only in him has the LORD, the God of Israel, found any good in the house of Jeroboam.
14AND HE WILL RAISE UP YAHWEH FOR HIMSELF A KING OVER ISRAEL WHO HE WILL CUT OFF <OBJ.> [THE] HOUSE OF JEROBOAM THIS THE DAY AND WHAT? ALSO NOW 14Moreover the LORD will raise up for Himself a king over Israel who will cut off the house of Jeroboam. This is the day— yes, even today!
15AND HE WILL STRIKE DOWN YAHWEH <OBJ.> ISRAEL JUST AS IT SWAYS <THE> REED IN THE WATER AND HE WILL PLUCK UP <OBJ.> ISRAEL FROM ON THE GROUND <THE> GOOD <THE> THIS WHICH HE GAVE TO ANCESTORS THEIR AND HE WILL SCATTER THEM FROM [THE] OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER BECAUSE THAT THEY HAVE MADE <OBJ.> ASHERAH POLES THEIR PROVOKING TO ANGER <OBJ.> YAHWEH 15For the LORD will strike Israel as a reed is shaken in the water. He will uproot Israel from this good land that He gave their fathers, and He will scatter them beyond the Euphrates,*NoteCloseHebrew the River because they have made their Asherah poles, provoking the LORD to anger.
16SO HE MAY GIVE UP <OBJ.> ISRAEL ON ACCOUNT OF [THE] SINS OF JEROBOAM WHICH HE HAS SINNED AND WHICH HE HAS CAUSED TO SIN <OBJ.> ISRAEL 16So He will give Israel over on account of the sins Jeroboam has committed and has caused Israel to commit.”
17AND SHE AROSE [THE] WIFE OF JEROBOAM AND SHE WENT AND SHE CAME TIRZAH TOWARDS SHE [WAS] COMING AT [THE] THRESHOLD OF THE HOUSE AND THE LAD HE DIED 17Then Jeroboam’s wife got up and departed for Tirzah, and as soon as she stepped over the threshold of the house, the boy died.
18AND THEY BURIED <OBJ.> HIM AND THEY MOURNED FOR HIM ALL ISRAEL ACCORDING TO [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH WHICH HE SPOKE BY [THE] HAND OF SERVANT HIS AHIJAH THE PROPHET 18And they buried him, and all Israel mourned for him, according to the word that the LORD had spoken through His servant Ahijah the prophet.
19AND [THE] REST OF [THE] MATTERS OF JEROBOAM WHICH HE WAGED WAR AND WHICH HE REIGNED THERE THEY [ARE] WRITTEN ON [THE] SCROLL OF [THE] MATTERS OF THE DAYS OF [THE] KINGS OF ISRAEL Nadab Succeeds Jeroboam 19As for the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he waged war and how he reigned, they are indeed written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
20AND THE DAYS WHICH HE REIGNED JEROBOAM [WERE] TWENTY AND TWO YEAR[S] AND HE LAY DOWN WITH ANCESTORS HIS AND HE BECAME KING NADAB SON HIS IN PLACE OF HIM 20And the length of Jeroboam’s reign was twenty-two years, and he rested with his fathers, and his son Nadab reigned in his place.
21AND REHOBOAM [THE] SON OF SOLOMON HE REIGNED IN JUDAH [WAS] A SON OF FORTY AND ONE YEAR[S] REHOBOAM WHEN BECAME KING HE AND SEVEN- TEEN YEAR[S] HE REIGNED IN JERUSALEM THE CITY WHERE HE HAD CHOSEN YAHWEH TO PUT <OBJ.> NAME HIS THERE FROM ALL [THE] TRIBES OF ISRAEL AND [THE] NAME OF MOTHER HIS [WAS] NAAMAH THE AMMONITE [WOMAN] Rehoboam Reigns in Judah (2 Chronicles 12:13–14) 21Meanwhile, Rehoboam son of Solomon reigned in Judah. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the LORD had chosen from all the tribes of Israel in which to put His Name. His mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonite.
22AND IT DID JUDAH THE EVIL IN [THE] EYES OF YAHWEH AND THEY MADE JEALOUS <OBJ.> HIM MORE THAN ALL THAT THEY HAD DONE ANCESTORS THEIR BY SINS THEIR WHICH THEY SINNED 22And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and by the sins they committed they provoked Him to jealous anger more than all their fathers had done.
23AND THEY BUILT ALSO THEY FOR THEMSELVES HIGH PLACES AND SACRED PILLARS AND ASHERAH POLES ON EVERY HILL HIGH AND UNDER EVERY TREE LUXURIANT 23They also built for themselves high places, sacred pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree.
24AND ALSO CULT PROSTITUTE[S] HE WAS IN THE LAND THEY DID ACCORDING TO ALL THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE NATIONS WHICH HE HAD DISPOSSESSED YAHWEH FROM BEFORE [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL 24There were even male shrine prostitutes in the land. They imitated all the abominations of the nations the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
25AND IT WAS IN THE YEAR <THE> FIFTH OF THE KING REHOBOAM HE CAME UP SHISHAK [THE] KING OF EGYPT ON JERUSALEM Shishak Raids Jerusalem (2 Chronicles 12:1–12) 25In the fifth year of Rehoboam’s reign, Shishak king of Egypt attacked Jerusalem.
26AND HE TOOK <OBJ.> [THE] TREASURES OF [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH AND <OBJ.> [THE] TREASURES OF [THE] HOUSE OF THE KING AND <OBJ.> <THE> EVERYTHING HE TOOK AND HE TOOK <OBJ.> ALL [THE] SHIELDS OF <THE> GOLD WHICH HE HAD MADE SOLOMON 26He seized the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the royal palace. He took everything, including all the gold shields that Solomon had made.
27AND HE MADE THE KING REHOBOAM IN PLACE OF THEM SHIELDS OF BRONZE AND HE ENTRUSTED [THEM] ON [THE] HAND OF [THE] COMMANDERS OF THE RUNNERS WHO GUARDED [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] HOUSE OF THE KING 27Then King Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place and committed them to the care of the captains of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.
28AND IT WAS AS OFTEN AS WENT THE KING [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH THEY CARRIED THEM THE RUNNERS AND THEY RETURNED THEM TO [THE] GUARDROOM OF THE RUNNERS 28And whenever the king entered the house of the LORD, the guards would bear the shields, and later they would return them to the guardroom.
29AND [THE] REST OF [THE] MATTERS OF REHOBOAM AND ALL THAT HE DID ¿ NOT [ARE] THEY WRITTEN ON [THE] SCROLL OF [THE] MATTERS OF THE DAYS OF [THE] KINGS OF JUDAH 29As for the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, along with all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
30AND WAR IT WAS BETWEEN REHOBOAM AND BETWEEN JEROBOAM ALL THE DAYS 30There was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam throughout their days.
31AND HE LAY DOWN REHOBOAM WITH ANCESTORS HIS AND HE WAS BURIED WITH ANCESTORS HIS IN [THE] CITY OF DAVID AND [THE] NAME OF MOTHER HIS [WAS] NAAMAH THE AMMONITE [WOMAN] AND HE BECAME KING ABIJAM SON HIS IN PLACE OF HIM 31And Rehoboam rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David; his mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonite. And his son Abijam*NoteCloseAbijam is a variant of Abijah; some Hebrew manuscripts and LXX Abijah; see 2 Chronicles 12:16. reigned in his place.
