13IN ORDER <THE> TO STRENGTHEN YOUR <THE> HEARTS BLAMELESS IN HOLINESS BEFORE THE GOD AND FATHER OF US AT THE COMING OF THE LORD OF US JESUS CHRIST WITH ALL THE SAINTS OF HIM AMEN. 13so that He may establish your hearts in blamelessness and holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints. Amen.
1FINALLY THEN, BROTHERS, WE IMPLORE YOU AND WE EXHORT [YOU] IN [THE] LORD JESUS SO THAT EVEN AS YOU HAVE RECEIVED FROM US <THE> IN WHAT MANNER IT BEHOOVES YOU TO WALK AND TO PLEASE GOD EVEN AS ALSO YOU WALK [NOW], SO YOU MAY ABOUND MORE; Living to Please God 1Finally, brothers, we ask and encourage you in the Lord Jesus to live in a way that is pleasing to God just as you have received from us. This is how you already live, so you should do so all the more.
2YOU KNOW FOR WHAT INSTRUCTIONS WE GAVE YOU THROUGH THE LORD JESUS. 2For you know the instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
3THIS FOR IS [THE] WILL <THE> OF GOD, THE SANCTIFICATION OF YOU: TO ABSTAIN YOU [ARE] FROM <THE> SEXUAL IMMORALITY; 3For it is God’s will that you should be holy: You must abstain from sexual immorality;
4TO KNOW EACH OF YOU [HOW] THE HIS OWN VESSEL TO CONTROL IN HOLINESS AND HONOR, 4each of you must know how to control his own body*NoteCloseLiterally know how to possess his own vessel in holiness and honor,
5NOT IN [THE] PASSION OF LUST AS ALSO THE GENTILES <THE> NOT KNOWING <THE> GOD; 5not in lustful passion like the Gentiles who do not know God;
6<THE> NOT TO GO BEYOND AND TO OVERREACH IN THE MATTER THE BROTHER OF HIM; BECAUSE AVENGING [IS] THE LORD CONCERNING ALL THESE THINGS EVEN AS ALSO WE TOLD BEFORE YOU AND THOROUGHLY WARNED. 6and no one should ever violate or exploit his brother in this regard,*NoteCloseOr no one should ever harm or cheat his brother in this matter because the Lord will avenge all such acts, as we have already told you and solemnly warned you.
7NOT FOR HAS CALLED US <THE> GOD TO IMPURITY BUT INTO HOLINESS. 7For God has not called us to impurity, but to holiness.
8SO THEN THE [ONE] REJECTING [THIS] NOT MAN DISREGARDS BUT <THE> GOD THE [ONE] ALSO GIVING THE SPIRIT OF HIM <THE> HOLY TO YOU. 8Anyone, then, who rejects this command does not reject man but God, the very One who gives you His Holy Spirit.
9CONCERNING NOW <THE> BROTHERLY LOVE NO NEED YOU HAVE [FOR ME] TO WRITE TO YOU; YOURSELVES FOR YOU YOURSELVES TAUGHT BY GOD ARE IN ORDER <THE> TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER; 9Now about brotherly love, you do not need anyone to write to you, because you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another.
10AND FOR YOU ARE DOING THIS TOWARD ALL THE BROTHERS THE [ONES] IN ALL <THE> MACEDONIA. WE EXHORT HOWEVER YOU, BROTHERS, TO ABOUND MORE AND MORE 10And you are indeed showing this love to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to excel more and more
11AND TO STRIVE EARNESTLY TO LIVE QUIETLY AND TO ATTEND TO <THE> [YOUR] OWN AND TO WORK WITH THE OWN HANDS OF YOU EVEN AS YOU WE COMMANDED; 11and to aspire to live quietly, to attend to your own matters, and to work with your own hands, as we instructed you.
12SO THAT YOU MAY WALK PROPERLY TOWARD THOSE OUTSIDE AND OF NO ONE NEED MAY HAVE. 12Then you will behave properly toward outsiders, without being dependent on anyone.
13NOT WE DO WANT BUT YOU TO BE IGNORANT, BROTHERS, CONCERNING THOSE THEMSELVES FALLING ASLEEP, SO THAT NOT YOU MAY BE GRIEVED EVEN AS ALSO THE REST THOSE NOT HAVING HOPE. The Return of the Lord 13Brothers, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death*NoteCloseLiterally those who have fallen asleep, as in verses 14 and 15 so that you will not grieve like the rest, who are without hope.
14IF FOR WE BELIEVE THAT JESUS DIED AND ROSE AGAIN, SO ALSO <THE> GOD THOSE HAVING FALLEN ASLEEP THROUGH <THE> JESUS WILL BRING WITH HIM. 14For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.
15THIS FOR TO YOU WE DECLARE IN [THE] WORD OF [THE] LORD THAT WE OURSELVES THE LIVING WHO ARE REMAINING UNTILL THE COMING OF THE LORD CERTAINLY NOT MAY PRECEDE THOSE HAVING FALLEN ASLEEP; 15By the word of the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have fallen asleep.
16BECAUSE HIMSELF THE LORD WITH A LOUD COMMAND, WITH [THE] VOICE OF AN ARCHANGEL AND WITH [THE] TRUMPET OF GOD WILL DESCEND FROM HEAVEN, AND THE DEAD IN CHRIST WILL RISE FIRST, 16For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be the first to rise.
17THEN WE OURSELVES THE LIVING THOSE REMAINING TOGETHER WITH THEM WE WILL BE CAUGHT AWAY IN [THE] CLOUDS FOR [THE] MEETING OF THE LORD IN [THE] AIR; AND SO ALWAYS WITH [THE] LORD WE WILL BE. 17After that, we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.
18THEREFORE DO ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER WITH <THE> WORDS THESE. 18Therefore encourage one another with these words.
