15AND ALSO [THE] TENTS OF LIVESTOCK THEY STRUCK DOWN AND THEY TOOK CAPTIVE SHEEP TO ABUNDANCE AND CAMELS AND THEY RETURNED JERUSALEM 15They also attacked the tents of the herdsmen and carried off many sheep and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.
1AND AZARIAH [THE] SON OF ODED IT WAS ON HIM [THE] SPIRIT OF GOD The Prophecy of Azariah 1Now the Spirit of God came upon Azariah son of Oded.
2AND HE WENT OUT <TO> BEFORE ASA AND HE SAID TO HIM LISTEN TO ME O ASA AND ALL JUDAH AND BENJAMIN YAHWEH [IS] WITH YOU WHEN ARE YOU WITH HIM AND IF YOU WILL SEEK HIM HE WILL LET HIMSELF BE FOUND BY YOU AND IF YOU WILL FORSAKE HIM HE WILL FORSAKE <OBJ.> YOU 2So he went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you when you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.
3AND DAYS MANY [BELONGED] TO ISRAEL TO NOT [THE] GOD OF TRUTH AND TO NOT A PRIEST [WHO] TEACHES AND TO NOT [THE] LAW 3For many years Israel has been without the true God, without a priest to instruct them, and without the law.
4AND IT TURNED BACK WHEN <THE> IT WAS DISTRESS TO IT TO YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL AND THEY SOUGHT HIM AND HE LET HIMSELF BE FOUND BY THEM 4But in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought Him, and He was found by them.
5AND IN THE TIMES <THE> THOSE NOT PEACE [BELONGED] TO THE [ONE WHO] WENT OUT AND TO THE [ONE WHO] CAME IN FOR DISTURBANCES GREAT [WERE] ON ALL [THE] INHABITANTS OF THE LANDS 5In those days there was no safety for travelers, because the residents of the lands had many conflicts.
6AND THEY WERE CRUSHED NATION BY NATION AND CITY BY CITY FOR GOD HE TROUBLED THEM WITH EVERY TROUBLE 6Nation was crushed by nation, and city by city, for God afflicted them with all kinds of adversity.
7AND YOU BE STRONG AND MAY NOT THEY DROP HANDS YOUR FOR THERE [IS] REWARD FOR WORK YOUR 7But as for you, be strong; do not be discouraged, for your work will be rewarded.”
8AND JUST AS HEARD ASA THE WORDS <THE> THESE AND THE PROPHECY OF AZARIAH [THE] SON OF ODED THE PROPHET HE STRENGTHENED HIMSELF AND HE TOOK AWAY THE DETESTABLE THINGS FROM ALL [THE] LAND OF JUDAH AND BENJAMIN AND FROM THE CITIES WHICH HE HAD CAPTURED FROM [THE] HILL COUNTRY OF EPHRAIM AND HE RENEWED <OBJ.> [THE] ALTAR OF YAHWEH WHICH [WAS] <TO> BEFORE [THE] PORCH OF YAHWEH Asa’s Reforms (1 Kings 15:9–15) 8When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Azariah son of Oded*NoteCloseVulgate and Syriac (see also verse 1 and LXX); Hebrew does not include Azariah son of. the prophet, he took courage and removed the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He then restored the altar of the LORD that was in front of the portico of the LORD’s temple.
9AND HE GATHERED <OBJ.> ALL JUDAH AND BENJAMIN AND THOSE [WHO] SOJOURNED WITH THEM FROM EPHRAIM AND MANASSEH AND FROM SIMEON FOR THEY HAD FALLEN ON HIM FROM ISRAEL TO MULTITUDE WHEN SAW THEY THAT YAHWEH GOD HIS [WAS] WITH HIM 9And he assembled all Judah and Benjamin, along with those from the tribes of Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon who had settled among them, for great numbers had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
10AND THEY GATHERED TOGETHER JERUSALEM IN THE MONTH <THE> THIRD OF YEAR FIF- TEEN OF [THE] REIGN OF ASA 10So they gathered together in Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa’s reign.
11AND THEY SACRIFICED TO YAHWEH ON THE DAY <THE> THAT SOME OF THE BOOTY [WHICH] THEY HAD BROUGHT OX[EN] SEVEN HUNDRED<S> AND SHEEP SEVEN THOUSAND<S> 11At that time they sacrificed to the LORD seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep from all the plunder they had brought back.
12AND THEY WENT IN THE COVENANT TO SEEK <OBJ.> YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ANCESTORS THEIR WITH ALL HEART THEIR AND WITH ALL BEING THEIR 12Then they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul.
13AND EVERY [ONE] WHO NOT HE WILL SEEK <TO> YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL HE WILL BE PUT TO DEATH <TO> FROM SMALL AND UNTO GREAT <TO> FROM MAN AND UNTO WOMAN 13And whoever would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, would be put to death, whether young or old, man or woman.
14AND THEY SWORE AN OATH TO YAHWEH WITH A VOICE GREAT AND WITH A SHOUT AND WITH TRUMPETS AND WITH RAM'S HORNS 14They took an oath to the LORD with a loud voice, with shouting, trumpets, and rams’ horns.
15AND THEY REJOICED ALL JUDAH ON THE OATH FOR WITH ALL HEART THEIR THEY HAD SWORN AND WITH ALL WILL THEIR THEY HAD SOUGHT HIM AND HE LET HIMSELF BE FOUND BY THEM AND HE GAVE REST YAHWEH TO THEM FROM ROUND ABOUT 15And all Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn it with all their heart. They had sought Him earnestly, and He was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.
16AND ALSO MAACAH [THE] MOTHER OF ASA THE KING HE REMOVED HER FROM QUEEN-MOTHER WHO SHE HAD MADE TO AN ASHERAH POLE AN ABOMINABLE IMAGE AND HE CUT DOWN ASA <OBJ.> ABOMINABLE IMAGE HER AND HE CRUSHED [IT] AND HE BURNED [IT] IN [THE] WADI OF KIDRON 16King Asa also removed his grandmother*NoteCloseHebrew his mother Maacah from her position as queen mother because she had made a detestable Asherah pole. Asa chopped down the pole, crushed it, and burned it in the Kidron Valley.
17AND THE HIGH PLACES NOT THEY WERE REMOVED FROM ISRAEL ONLY [THE] HEART OF ASA IT WAS COMPLETE ALL DAYS HIS 17The high places were not removed from Israel, but Asa’s heart was fully devoted all his days.
18AND HE BROUGHT <OBJ.> [THE] HOLY THINGS OF FATHER HIS AND OWN HOLY THINGS HIS [THE] HOUSE OF <THE> GOD SILVER AND GOLD AND UTENSILS 18And he brought into the house of God the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated.
19AND WAR NOT IT WAS UNTIL YEAR THIRTY AND FIVE OF [THE] REIGN OF ASA 19And there was no war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa’s reign.
