14AND PEOPLE BURIED HIM IN OWN GRAVE<S> HIS WHICH HE HAD DUG FOR HIMSELF IN [THE] CITY OF DAVID AND THEY MADE LIE HIM IN THE LYING PLACE WHICH HE HAD FILLED SPICES AND KINDS MIXED AS OINTMENT OF WORK AND THEY BURNED FOR HIM A BURNING GREAT UP TO <TO> MUCHNESS 14And he was buried in the tomb that he had cut out for himself in the City of David. They laid him on a bier that was full of spices and various blended perfumes; then they made a great fire in his honor.
1AND HE BECAME KING JEHOSHAPHAT SON HIS IN PLACE OF HIM AND HE STRENGTHENED HIMSELF ON ISRAEL Jehoshaphat Reigns in Judah (1 Kings 15:23–24) 1Asa’s son Jehoshaphat reigned in his place, and he strengthened himself against Israel.
2AND HE PUT AN ARMY IN ALL [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH <THE> FORTIFIED AND HE PUT GARRISONS IN [THE] LAND OF JUDAH AND IN [THE] CITIES OF EPHRAIM WHICH HE HAD CAPTURED ASA FATHER HIS 2He stationed troops in every fortified city of Judah and put garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.
3AND HE WAS YAHWEH WITH JEHOSHAPHAT FOR HE WALKED IN [THE] WAYS OF DAVID ANCESTOR HIS <THE> FORMER AND NOT HE SOUGHT <TO> THE BAALS 3Now the LORD was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the earlier ways*NoteCloseOr in his early years he walked in the ways of his father David. He did not seek the Baals,
4FOR <TO> [THE] GOD OF FATHER HIS HE SOUGHT AND IN COMMANDMENTS HIS HE WALKED AND NOT ACCORDING TO [THE] DEED[S] OF ISRAEL 4but he sought the God of his father and walked by His commandments rather than the practices of Israel.
5AND HE ESTABLISHED YAHWEH <OBJ.> THE KINGDOM IN HAND HIS AND THEY GAVE ALL JUDAH TRIBUTE TO JEHOSHAPHAT AND IT BELONGED TO HIM WEALTH AND HONOR TO ABUNDANCE 5So the LORD established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah brought him tribute, so that he had an abundance of riches and honor.
6AND IT WAS HIGH HEART HIS IN [THE] WAYS OF YAHWEH AND AGAIN HE REMOVED <OBJ.> THE HIGH PLACES AND <OBJ.> THE ASHERAH POLES FROM JUDAH 6And his heart took delight*NoteCloseOr was exalted or was courageous in the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah.
7AND IN YEAR THREE OF REIGNING HIS HE SENT <TO> OFFICIALS HIS <TO> BEN- HAIL AND <TO> OBADIAH AND <TO> ZECHARIAH AND <TO> NETHANEL AND <TO> MICAIAH TO TEACH IN [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH 7In the third year of his reign, Jehoshaphat sent his officials Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah to teach in the cities of Judah,
8AND [WERE] WITH THEM THE LEVITES SHEMAIAH AND NETHANIAH AND ZEBADIAH AND ASAHEL AND SHEMIRAMOTH AND JONATHAN AND ADONIJAH AND TOBIJAH AND TOB- ADONIJAH THE LEVITES AND [WERE] WITH THEM ELISHAMA AND JEHORAM THE PRIESTS 8accompanied by certain Levites— Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah— along with the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
9AND THEY TAUGHT IN JUDAH AND [WAS] WITH THEM [THE] BOOK OF [THE] LAW OF YAHWEH AND THEY WENT ROUND IN ALL [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH AND THEY TAUGHT AMONG THE PEOPLE 9They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD. They went throughout the towns of Judah and taught the people.
10AND IT WAS [THE] DREAD OF YAHWEH ON ALL [THE] KINGDOMS OF THE LANDS WHICH [WERE] AROUND JUDAH AND NOT THEY WAGED WAR WITH JEHOSHAPHAT 10And the dread of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that surrounded Judah, so that they did not make war against Jehoshaphat.
11AND SOME OF [THE] PHILISTINES [WERE] BRINGING TO JEHOSHAPHAT TRIBUTE AND SILVER A LOAD ALSO THE ARABS [WERE] BRINGING TO HIM FLOCK[S] RAMS SEVEN THOUSAND<S> AND SEVEN HUNDRED<S> AND MALE GOATS SEVEN THOUSAND<S> AND SEVEN HUNDRED<S> 11Some Philistines also brought gifts and silver as tribute to Jehoshaphat, and the Arabs brought him 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats from their flocks.
12AND IT WAS JEHOSHAPHAT [WAS] GOING AND [WAS] BECOMING GREAT TO <TO> UPWARDS <TOWARDS> AND HE BUILT IN JUDAH FORTRESSES AND CITIES OF STORAGE 12Jehoshaphat grew stronger and stronger, and he built fortresses and store cities in Judah
13AND PROPERTY MUCH IT BELONGED TO <THE> HIM IN [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH AND MEN OF WAR MIGHTY [MEN] OF STRENGTH [WERE] IN JERUSALEM 13and kept vast supplies in the cities of Judah. He also had warriors in Jerusalem who were mighty men of valor.
14AND THESE [WERE] GROUP[S] THEIR TO [THE] HOUSE OF ANCESTORS THEIR OF JUDAH COMMANDERS OF THOUSANDS ADNAH [WAS] THE COMMANDER AND [WERE] WITH HIM MIGHTY [MEN] OF STRENGTH THREE HUNDRED<S> THOUSAND 14These are their numbers according to the houses of their fathers: From Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, and with him 300,000. mighty men of valor;
15AND ON HAND HIS JEHOHANAN THE COMMANDER AND WITH HIM TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY THOUSAND 15next to him, Jehohanan the commander, and with him 280,000.;
16AND ON HAND HIS AMASIAH [THE] SON OF ZIKRI WHO VOLUNTEERED TO YAHWEH AND WITH HIM TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND MIGHTY [MAN] OF STRENGTH 16and next to him, Amasiah son of Zichri, the volunteer for the LORD, and with him 200,000. mighty men of valor.
17AND FROM BENJAMIN A MIGHTY [MAN] OF STRENGTH ELIADA AND WITH HIM [MEN] EQUIPPED OF BOW AND SHIELD TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND 17From Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him 200,000. armed with bows and shields;
18AND ON HAND HIS JEHOZABAD AND WITH HIM ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY THOUSAND [MEN] EQUIPPED OF WAR 18and next to him, Jehozabad, and with him 180,000. armed for battle.
19THESE [WERE] THE [ONES WHO] SERVED <OBJ.> THE KING <FROM> <TO> BESIDES [THOSE] WHOM HE PUT THE KING IN [THE] CITIES OF <THE> FORTIFICATION IN ALL JUDAH 19These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
