Justice and Mercy
1 “You shall not spread a false report. Do not join the wicked by being a malicious witness.
2 NOT YOU MUST BE AFTER MANY [PEOPLE] TO WICKED DEEDS AND NOT YOU MUST TESTIFY ON A CASE AT LAW BY TURNING ASIDE AFTER MANY [PEOPLE] TO THRUST ASIDE
2 You shall not follow the crowd in wrongdoing. When you testify in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd.
3 AND A POOR [PERSON] NOT YOU MUST SHOW PARTIALITY IN CASE AT LAW HIS
3 And do not show favoritism to a poor man in his lawsuit.
4 IF YOU WILL MEET [THE] OX OF ENEMY YOUR OR DONKEY HIS WANDERING OFF CERTAINLY <TO RETURN> YOU WILL RETURN IT TO <THE> HIM
4 If you encounter your enemy’s stray ox or donkey, you must return it to him.
5 IF YOU WILL SEE [THE] DONKEY OF [ONE WHO] HATES YOU LYING DOWN UNDER LOAD ITS AND YOU WILL REFRAIN FROM LEAVING <TO> <THE> IT CERTAINLY <TO LET LOOSE> YOU WILL LET [IT] LOOSE WITH HIM
5 If you see the donkey of one who hates you fallen under its load, do not leave it there; you must help him with it.
6 NOT YOU MUST TURN ASIDE [THE] JUSTICE OF NEEDY [PERSON] YOUR IN CASE AT LAW HIS
6 You shall not deny justice to the poor in their lawsuits.
7 FROM A WORD OF FALSEHOOD YOU WILL BE DISTANT AND AN INNOCENT [PERSON] AND A RIGHTEOUS [PERSON] MAY NOT YOU KILL FOR NOT I WILL DECLARE RIGHTEOUS A WICKED [PERSON]
7 Stay far away from a false accusation. Do not kill the innocent or the just, for I will not acquit the guilty.
8 AND A BRIBE NOT YOU MUST TAKE FOR <THE> BRIBE IT MAKES BLIND CLEAR-SIGHTED [PEOPLE] SO IT MAY PERVERT [THE] WORDS OF RIGHTEOUS [PEOPLE]
8 Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the righteous.
9 AND A SOJOURNER NOT YOU MUST OPPRESS AND YOU YOU HAVE KNOWN <OBJ.> [THE] LIFE OF THE SOJOURNER FOR SOJOURNERS YOU WERE IN [THE] LAND OF EGYPT
9 Do not oppress a foreign resident, since you yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners; for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.
10 AND SIX YEARS YOU WILL SOW <OBJ.> LAND YOUR AND YOU WILL GATHER <OBJ.> PRODUCE ITS
11 AND THE SEVENTH [YEAR] YOU WILL LET REST IT AND YOU WILL LEAVE FALLOW IT AND THEY WILL EAT [THE] NEEDY [PEOPLE] OF PEOPLE YOUR AND EXCESS THEIR IT WILL EAT [THE] ANIMAL[S] OF THE FIELD THUS YOU WILL DO TO VINEYARD YOUR TO OLIVE GROVE YOUR
11 but in the seventh year you must let it rest and lie fallow, so that the poor among your people may eat from the field and the wild animals may consume what they leave. Do the same with your vineyard and olive grove.
12 SIX DAYS YOU WILL DO WORK<S> YOUR AND ON THE DAY <THE> SEVENTH YOU WILL REST SO THAT IT MAY REST OX YOUR AND DONKEY YOUR SO HE MAY REFRESH HIMSELF [THE] CHILD OF FEMALE SLAVE YOUR AND THE SOJOURNER
12 For six days you are to do your work, but on the seventh day you must cease, so that your ox and your donkey may rest and the son of your maidservant may be refreshed, as well as the foreign resident.
13 AND TO ALL THAT I HAVE SAID TO YOU YOU WILL TAKE HEED AND [THE] NAME OF GODS OTHER NOT YOU WILL BRING TO REMEMBRANCE NOT IT WILL BE HEARD ON MOUTH YOUR
13 Pay close attention to everything I have said to you. You must not invoke the names of other gods; they must not be heard on your lips.
14 THREE FEET YOU WILL CELEBRATE A FESTIVAL TO <THE> ME IN THE YEAR
The Three Feasts of Pilgrimage
(Leviticus 23:1–3 )
14 Three times a year you are to celebrate a feast to Me.
15 <OBJ.> [THE] FESTIVAL OF THE UNLEAVENED BREAD<S> YOU WILL KEEP SEVEN DAYS YOU WILL EAT UNLEAVENED BREAD<S> JUST AS I COMMANDED YOU TO [THE] APPOINTED TIME OF [THE] MONTH OF <THE> ABIB FOR IN <THE> IT YOU CAME OUT FROM EGYPT AND NOT THEY WILL PRESENT THEMSELVES FACE MY EMPTY
15 You are to keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread as I commanded you: At the appointed time in the month of Abib you are to eat unleavened bread for seven days, because that was the month you came out of Egypt. No one may appear before Me empty-handed.
16 AND [THE] FESTIVAL OF THE HARVEST [THE] FIRST-FRUITS OF WORK<S> YOUR WHICH YOU WILL SOW IN THE FIELD AND [THE] FESTIVAL OF THE INGATHERING WHEN GOES OUT THE YEAR WHEN GATHERING YOU <OBJ.> WORK<S> YOUR FROM THE FIELD
16 You are also to keep the Feast of Harvest with the firstfruits of the produce from what you sow in the field.
And keep the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather your produce from the field.
17 THREE TIMES IN THE YEAR HE WILL PRESENT HIMSELF EVERY MALE YOUR TO [THE] PRESENCE OF THE LORD YAHWEH
17 Three times a year all your males are to appear before the Lord GOD.
18 NOT YOU MUST SACRIFICE WITH LEAVEN [THE] BLOOD OF SACRIFICE MY AND NOT IT WILL REMAIN OVERNIGHT [THE] FAT OF FESTIVAL SACRIFICE MY UNTIL MORNING
18 You must not offer the blood of My sacrifices with anything leavened, nor may the fat of My feast remain until morning.
19 [THE] BEGINNING OF [THE] FIRST-FRUITS OF GROUND YOUR YOU WILL BRING [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH GOD YOUR NOT YOU MUST BOIL A KID IN [THE] MILK OF MOTHER ITS
19 Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God.
You must not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.
20 HERE! I [AM] ABOUT TO SEND AN ANGEL <TO> BEFORE YOU TO GUARD YOU ON THE JOURNEY AND TO BRING YOU INTO THE PLACE WHICH I HAVE PREPARED
God’s Angel to Lead
(Deuteronomy 7:12–26 )
20 Behold, I am sending an angel before you to protect you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.
21 TAKE CARE FROM BEFORE HIM AND LISTEN TO VOICE HIS MAY NOT YOU CAUSE BITTERNESS IN <THE> HIM FOR NOT HE WILL FORGIVE TO TRANSGRESSION YOUR FOR NAME MY [IS] <IN> WITHIN HIM
21 Pay attention to him and listen to his voice; do not defy him, for he will not forgive rebellion, since My Name is in him.
22 THAT EXCEPT CAREFULLY <TO LISTEN> YOU WILL LISTEN TO VOICE HIS AND YOU WILL DO ALL THAT I WILL SAY AND I WILL BE AN ENEMY TO <OBJ.> ENEMIES YOUR AND I WILL BE A FOE TO <OBJ.> OPPOSERS YOUR
22 But if you will listen carefully to his voice and do everything I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and a foe to your foes.
23 FOR HE WILL GO ANGEL MY <TO> BEFORE YOU AND HE WILL BRING YOU TO THE AMORITE[S] AND THE HITTITE[S] AND THE PERIZZITE[S] AND THE CANAANITE[S] THE HIVITE[S] AND THE JEBUSITE[S] AND I WILL ANNIHILATE IT
23 For My angel will go before you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and I will annihilate them.
24 NOT YOU MUST BOW DOWN TO GODS THEIR AND NOT YOU MUST BE ENTICED TO SERVE THEM AND NOT YOU MUST MAKE LIKE WORKS THEIR FOR COMPLETELY <TEAR DOWN> YOU WILL TEAR DOWN THEM AND TOTALLY <SHATTER> YOU WILL SHATTER INTO PIECES SACRED PILLARS THEIR
24 You must not bow down to their gods or serve them or follow their practices. Instead, you are to demolish them and smash their sacred stones to pieces.
25 AND YOU WILL SERVE <OBJ.> YAHWEH GOD YOUR AND HE WILL BLESS <OBJ.> FOOD YOUR AND <OBJ.> WATER YOUR AND I WILL REMOVE SICKNESS FROM MIDST YOUR
25 So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take away sickness from among you.
26 NOT ANYONE WILL BE MISCARRYING AND BARREN IN LAND YOUR <OBJ.> [THE] NUMBER OF DAYS YOUR I WILL COMPLETE
26 No woman in your land will miscarry or be barren; I will fulfill the number of your days.
27 <OBJ.> TERROR MY I WILL SEND <TO> BEFORE YOU AND I WILL CONFUSE <OBJ.> EVERY <THE> PEOPLE WHICH YOU WILL GO AMONG <THE> THEM AND I WILL GIVE <OBJ.> ALL ENEMIES YOUR TO YOU NECK
27 I will send My terror ahead of you and throw into confusion every nation you encounter I will make all your enemies turn and run.
28 AND I WILL SEND <OBJ.> THE HORNET <TO> BEFORE YOU AND IT WILL DRIVE OUT <OBJ.> THE HIVITE[S] <OBJ.> THE CANAANITE[S] AND <OBJ.> THE HITTITE[S] FROM TO BEFORE YOU
28 I will send the hornet before you to drive the Hivites and Canaanites and Hittites out of your way.
29 NOT I WILL DRIVE OUT IT FROM BEFORE YOU IN A YEAR ONE LEST IT SHOULD BECOME THE LAND A WASTE AND IT WILL BECOME MANY ON YOU [THE] ANIMAL[S] OF THE FIELD
29 I will not drive them out before you in a single year; otherwise the land would become desolate and wild animals would multiply against you.
30 LITTLE LITTLE I WILL DRIVE OUT IT FROM BEFORE YOU UNTIL THAT YOU WILL BE FRUITFUL AND YOU WILL POSSESS <OBJ.> THE LAND
30 Little by little I will drive them out ahead of you, until you become fruitful and possess the land.
31 AND I WILL FIX <OBJ.> BORDER YOUR FROM [THE] SEA OF REED[S] AND TO [THE] SEA OF [THE] PHILISTINES AND FROM [THE] WILDERNESS TO THE RIVER FOR I WILL GIVE IN HAND YOUR <OBJ.> [THE] INHABITANTS OF THE LAND AND YOU WILL DRIVE OUT THEM FROM BEFORE YOU
31 And I will establish your borders from the Red Sea to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the Euphrates. For I will deliver the inhabitants into your hand, and you will drive them out before you.
32 NOT YOU MUST MAKE TO THEM AND TO GODS THEIR A COVENANT
32 You shall make no covenant with them or with their gods.
33 NOT THEY WILL DWELL IN LAND YOUR LEST THEY SHOULD CAUSE TO SIN <OBJ.> YOU TO <THE> ME FOR YOU WILL SERVE <OBJ.> GODS THEIR FOR IT WILL BECOME FOR <THE> YOU <INTO> A SNARE
33 They must not remain in your land, lest they cause you to sin against Me. For if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”
