1 AND YOU WILL MAKE AN ALTAR A PLACE OF SMOKE OF INCENSE WOOD<S> OF ACACIA YOU WILL MAKE <OBJ.> IT
The Altar of Incense
(Exodus 37:25–29 )
1 “You are also to make an altar of acacia wood for the burning of incense.
2 [WILL BE] A CUBIT LENGTH ITS AND [WILL BE] A CUBIT BREADTH ITS SQUARE IT WILL BE AND [WILL BE] TWO CUBITS HEIGHT ITS [WILL BE] FROM IT HORNS ITS
2 It is to be square, a cubit long, a cubit wide, and two cubits high. Its horns must be of one piece.
3 AND YOU WILL OVERLAY <OBJ.> IT GOLD PURE <OBJ.> TOP ITS AND <OBJ.> SIDES ITS ALL AROUND AND <OBJ.> HORNS ITS AND YOU WILL MAKE FOR <THE> IT A MOLDING OF GOLD ALL AROUND
3 Overlay with pure gold the top and all the sides and horns, and make a molding of gold around it.
4 AND TWO RINGS OF GOLD YOU WILL MAKE FOR <THE> IT FROM UNDER TO MOLDING ITS ON [THE] TWO SIDES ITS YOU WILL MAKE [THEM] ON [THE] TWO SIDES ITS AND IT WILL BECOME <INTO> HOLDERS FOR POLES TO CARRY <OBJ.> IT BY THEM
4 And make two gold rings below the molding on opposite sides to hold the poles used to carry it.
5 AND YOU WILL MAKE <OBJ.> THE POLES WOOD<S> OF ACACIA AND YOU WILL OVERLAY <OBJ.> THEM GOLD
5 Make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.
6 AND YOU WILL PUT <OBJ.> IT <TO> BEFORE THE CURTAIN WHICH [IS] ON [THE] ARK OF THE TESTIMONY <TO> BEFORE THE ATONEMENT COVER WHICH [IS] ON THE TESTIMONY WHERE I WILL MEET <TO> <THE> YOU THERE <TOWARDS>
6 Place the altar in front of the veil that is before the ark of the Testimony before the mercy seat that is over the Testimony— where I will meet with you.
7 AND HE WILL MAKE SMOKE ON IT AARON INCENSE OF PERFUME<S> IN THE MORNING IN THE MORNING WHEN MAKES GOOD HE <OBJ.> THE LAMPS HE WILL MAKE SMOKE IT
7 And Aaron is to burn fragrant incense on it every morning when he tends the lamps.
8 AND WHEN LIFTS UP AARON <OBJ.> THE LAMPS BETWEEN THE EVENINGS HE WILL MAKE SMOKE IT INCENSE OF CONTINUITY <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH TO GENERATIONS YOUR
8 When Aaron sets up the lamps at twilight, he must burn the incense perpetually before the LORD for the generations to come.
9 NOT YOU MUST OFFER UP ON IT INCENSE STRANGE AND A BURNT OFFERING AND A GRAIN OFFERING AND A DRINK OFFERING NOT YOU MUST POUR OUT ON IT
9 On this altar you must not offer unauthorized incense or a burnt offering or grain offering; nor are you to pour a drink offering on it.
10 AND HE WILL MAKE ATONEMENT AARON ON HORNS ITS ONE [TIME] IN THE YEAR FROM [THE] BLOOD OF [THE] SIN OFFERING OF <THE> ATONEMENT<S> ONE [TIME] IN THE YEAR HE WILL MAKE ATONEMENT ON IT TO GENERATIONS YOUR [IS] HOLINESS OF HOLINESS<ES> IT TO YAHWEH
10 Once a year Aaron shall make atonement on the horns of the altar. Throughout your generations he shall make atonement on it annually with the blood of the sin offering of atonement. The altar is most holy to the LORD.”
11 AND HE SPOKE YAHWEH TO MOSES <TO> SAYING
12 THAT YOU WILL TAKE <OBJ.> [THE] SUM OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL OF ENROLLED [MEN] THEM AND THEY WILL GIVE EVERYONE [THE] RANSOM OF LIFE HIS TO YAHWEH WHEN ENROLL <OBJ.> THEM AND NOT IT WILL BE AMONG <THE> THEM A PLAGUE WHEN ENROLL <OBJ.> THEM
12 “When you take a census of the Israelites to number them, each man must pay the LORD a ransom for his life when he is counted. Then no plague will come upon them when they are numbered.
13 THIS THEY WILL PAY EVERY <THE> [ONE WHO] PASSES OVER TO THOSE [WHO] ARE ENROLLED [THE] HALF OF THE SHEKEL BY [THE] SHEKEL OF THE HOLY PLACE [IS] TWENTY GERAH[S] THE SHEKEL <THE> HALF OF THE SHEKEL [IS] A CONTRIBUTION TO YAHWEH
13 Everyone who crosses over to those counted must pay a half shekel, according to the sanctuary shekel, which weighs twenty gerahs. This half shekel is an offering to the LORD.
14 EVERY <THE> [ONE WHO] PASSES OVER TO THOSE [WHO] ARE ENROLLED FROM A SON OF TWENTY YEAR[S] AND UP -WARDS HE WILL PAY [THE] CONTRIBUTION OF YAHWEH
14 Everyone twenty years of age or older who crosses over must give this offering to the LORD.
15 THE RICH [PERSON] NOT HE WILL MAKE MUCH AND THE POOR [PERSON] NOT HE WILL MAKE LITTLE MORE THAN [THE] HALF OF THE SHEKEL BY PAYING <OBJ.> [THE] CONTRIBUTION OF YAHWEH TO MAKE ATONEMENT ON SELVES YOUR
15 In making the offering to the LORD to atone for your lives, the rich shall not give more than a half shekel, nor shall the poor give less.
16 AND YOU WILL TAKE <OBJ.> [THE] MONEY OF <THE> ATONEMENT<S> FROM WITH [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND YOU WILL GIVE <OBJ.> IT ON [THE] SERVICE OF [THE] TENT OF MEETING AND IT WILL BECOME FOR [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL <INTO> A MEMORIAL <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH TO MAKE ATONEMENT ON SELVES YOUR
16 Take the atonement money from the Israelites and use it for the service of the Tent of Meeting. It will serve as a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD to make atonement for your lives.”
17 AND HE SPOKE YAHWEH TO MOSES <TO> SAYING
The Bronze Basin
(Exodus 38:8 )
17 And the LORD said to Moses
18 AND YOU WILL MAKE A LAVER OF BRONZE AND BASE OF ITS BRONZE FOR WASHING AND YOU WILL PUT <OBJ.> IT BETWEEN [THE] TENT OF MEETING AND BETWEEN THE ALTAR AND YOU WILL PUT THERE <TOWARDS> WATER
18 “You are to make a bronze basin with a bronze stand for washing. Set it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it,
19 AND THEY WILL WASH AARON AND SONS HIS FROM IT <OBJ.> HANDS THEIR AND <OBJ.> FEET THEIR
19 with which Aaron and his sons are to wash their hands and feet.
20 WHEN GO THEY INTO [THE] TENT OF MEETING THEY WILL WASH WATER AND NOT THEY WILL DIE OR WHEN DRAW NEAR THEY TO THE ALTAR TO SERVE TO MAKE SMOKE A FIRE OFFERING TO YAHWEH
20 Whenever they enter the Tent of Meeting or approach the altar to minister by presenting a food offering to the LORD, they must wash with water so that they will not die.
21 AND THEY WILL WASH HANDS THEIR AND FEET THEIR AND NOT THEY WILL DIE AND IT WILL BE FOR <THE> THEM A DECREE OF PERPETUITY FOR HIM AND FOR OFFSPRING HIS TO GENERATIONS THEIR
21 Thus they are to wash their hands and feet so that they will not die; this shall be a permanent statute for Aaron and his descendants for the generations to come.”
22 AND HE SPOKE YAHWEH TO MOSES <TO> SAYING
The Anointing Oil
22 Then the LORD said to Moses,
23 AND YOU TAKE FOR <THE> YOURSELF SPICES [THE] BEST MYRRH OF FLOWING FIVE HUNDRED<S> AND CINNAMON OF SPICE HALF ITS FIFTY AND TWO HUNDRED AND CANE OF SPICE FIFTY AND TWO HUNDRED
23 “Take the finest spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, half that amount (250 shekels) of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels of fragrant cane,
24 AND CASSIA FIVE HUNDRED<S> BY [THE] SHEKEL OF THE HOLY PLACE AND OIL OF OLIVE A HIN
24 500 shekels of cassia all according to the sanctuary shekel— and a hin of olive oil.
25 AND YOU WILL MAKE <OBJ.> IT OIL OF ANOINTING OF HOLINESS PERFUME OF AN OINTMENT-POT [THE] WORK OF A PERFUMER OIL OF ANOINTING OF HOLINESS IT WILL BE
25 Prepare from these a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer; it will be a sacred anointing oil.
26 AND YOU WILL ANOINT WITH <THE> IT <OBJ.> [THE] TENT OF MEETING AND <OBJ.> [THE] ARK OF THE TESTIMONY
26 Use this oil to anoint the Tent of Meeting, the ark of the Testimony,
27 AND <OBJ.> THE TABLE AND <OBJ.> ALL ARTICLES ITS AND <OBJ.> THE LAMPSTAND AND <OBJ.> ARTICLES ITS AND <OBJ.> [THE] ALTAR OF <THE> INCENSE
27 the table and all its utensils, the lampstand and its utensils, the altar of incense,
28 AND <OBJ.> [THE] ALTAR OF THE BURNT OFFERING AND <OBJ.> ALL ARTICLES ITS AND <OBJ.> THE LAVER AND <OBJ.> BASE ITS
28 the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand.
29 AND YOU WILL CONSECRATE <OBJ.> THEM AND THEY WILL BE HOLINESS OF HOLINESS<ES> EVERY <THE> [THING WHICH] TOUCHES <IN> <THE> THEM IT WILL BE HOLY
29 You are to consecrate them so that they will be most holy. Whatever touches them shall be holy.
30 AND <OBJ.> AARON AND <OBJ.> SONS HIS YOU WILL ANOINT AND YOU WILL CONSECRATE <OBJ.> THEM TO SERVE AS PRIESTS <TO> <THE> ME
30 Anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them to serve Me as priests
31 AND TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL YOU WILL SPEAK <TO> SAYING OIL OF ANOINTING OF HOLINESS IT WILL BE THIS OF ME TO GENERATIONS YOUR
31 And you are to tell the Israelites, ‘This will be My sacred anointing oil for the generations to come.
32 ON [THE] BODY OF A PERSON NOT IT WILL BE POURED AND IN PROPORTION[S] ITS NOT YOU MUST MAKE LIKE IT [IS] A HOLY THING IT A HOLY THING IT WILL BE TO <THE> YOU
32 It must not be used to anoint an ordinary man, and you must not make anything like it with the same formula. It is holy, and it must be holy to you.
33 ANYONE WHO HE WILL MIX LIKE IT AND WHO HE WILL PUT ANY OF IT ON A STRANGER AND HE WILL BE CUT OFF FROM KINSPEOPLE<S> HIS
33 Anyone who mixes perfume like it or puts it on an outsider shall be cut off from his people.’”
34 AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO MOSES TAKE FOR <THE> YOURSELF SPICES STACTE AND ONYCHA AND GALBANUM SPICES AND FRANKINCENSE PURE A PART IN A PART IT WILL BE
The Incense
34 The LORD also said to Moses, “Take fragrant spices— gum resin, onycha, galbanum, and pure frankincense— in equal measures,
35 AND YOU WILL MAKE <OBJ.> IT INCENSE PERFUME [THE] WORK OF A PERFUMER SALTED PURE A HOLY THING
35 and make a fragrant blend of incense the work of a perfumer, seasoned with salt, pure and holy.
36 AND YOU WILL BEAT FINE SOME OF IT FINELY <PULVERIZE> AND YOU WILL PUT SOME OF IT <TO> BEFORE THE TESTIMONY IN [THE] TENT OF MEETING WHERE I WILL MEET <TO> <THE> YOU THERE <TOWARDS> HOLINESS OF HOLINESS<ES> IT WILL BE TO <THE> YOU
36 Grind some of it into fine powder and place it in front of the Testimony in the Tent of Meeting, where I will meet with you. It shall be most holy to you.
37 AND THE INCENSE WHICH YOU WILL MAKE IN PROPORTION[S] ITS NOT YOU MUST MAKE FOR <THE> YOURSELVES A HOLY THING IT WILL BE TO <THE> YOU TO YAHWEH
37 You are never to use this formula to make incense for yourselves; you shall regard it as holy to the LORD.
38 ANYONE WHO HE WILL MAKE LIKE IT TO SMELL <IN> <THE> IT AND HE WILL BE CUT OFF FROM KINSPEOPLE<S> HIS
38 Anyone who makes something like it to enjoy its fragrance shall be cut off from his people.”
