Consecration of the Priests
(Leviticus 8:1–13 )
1 “Now this is what you are to do to consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve Me as priests Take a young bull and two rams without blemish,
2 AND BREAD OF UNLEAVENED BREAD<S> AND CAKES OF UNLEAVENED BREAD<S> MIXED WITH <THE> OIL AND WAFERS OF UNLEAVENED BREAD<S> SMEARED WITH <THE> OIL FINE FLOUR OF WHEAT<S> YOU WILL MAKE <OBJ.> THEM
2 along with unleavened bread, unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil. Make them out of fine wheat flour,
3 AND YOU WILL PUT <OBJ.> THEM ON A BASKET ONE AND YOU WILL BRING NEAR <OBJ.> THEM IN THE BASKET AND <OBJ.> THE YOUNG BULL AND <OBJ.> [THE] TWO THE RAMS
3 put them in a basket, and present them in the basket, along with the bull and the two rams.
4 AND <OBJ.> AARON AND <OBJ.> SONS HIS YOU WILL BRING NEAR TO [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] TENT OF MEETING AND YOU WILL WASH <OBJ.> THEM WITH <THE> WATER
4 Then present Aaron and his sons at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water.
5 AND YOU WILL TAKE <OBJ.> THE GARMENTS AND YOU WILL CLOTHE <OBJ.> AARON <OBJ.> THE TUNIC AND <OBJ.> [THE] ROBE OF THE EPHOD AND <OBJ.> THE EPHOD AND <OBJ.> THE BREASTPIECE AND YOU WILL GIRD [THE] EPHOD TO <THE> HIM WITH [THE] GIRDLE OF THE EPHOD
5 Take the garments and clothe Aaron with the tunic, the robe of the ephod, the ephod itself, and the breastplate. Fasten the ephod on him with its woven waistband.
6 AND YOU WILL PUT THE TURBAN ON HEAD HIS AND YOU WILL PUT <OBJ.> [THE] CROWN OF <THE> HOLINESS ON THE TURBAN
6 Put the turban on his head and attach the holy diadem to the turban.
7 AND YOU WILL TAKE <OBJ.> [THE] OIL OF <THE> ANOINTING AND YOU WILL POUR [IT] ON HEAD HIS AND YOU WILL ANOINT <OBJ.> HIM
7 Then take the anointing oil and anoint him by pouring it on his head.
8 AND <OBJ.> SONS HIS YOU WILL BRING NEAR AND YOU WILL CLOTHE THEM TUNICS
8 Present his sons as well and clothe them with tunics.
9 AND YOU WILL GIRD <OBJ.> THEM A SASH AARON AND SONS HIS AND YOU WILL BIND ON TO <THE> THEM HEADDRESSES AND IT WILL BE[LONG] TO <THE> THEM PRIESTHOOD TO A STATUTE OF PERPETUITY AND YOU WILL FILL [THE] HAND OF AARON AND [THE] HAND OF SONS HIS
9 Wrap the sashes around Aaron and his sons and tie headbands on them. The priesthood shall be theirs by a permanent statute. In this way you are to ordain Aaron and his sons.
10 AND YOU WILL BRING NEAR <OBJ.> THE YOUNG BULL <TO> BEFORE [THE] TENT OF MEETING AND HE WILL LAY AARON AND SONS HIS <OBJ.> HANDS THEIR ON [THE] HEAD OF THE YOUNG BULL
The Order of the Sacrifices
(Leviticus 8:22–36 )
10 You are to present the bull at the front of the Tent of Meeting, and Aaron and his sons are to lay their hands on its head.
11 AND YOU WILL SLAUGHTER <OBJ.> THE YOUNG BULL <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] TENT OF MEETING
11 And you shall slaughter the bull before the LORD at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
12 AND YOU WILL TAKE SOME OF [THE] BLOOD OF THE YOUNG BULL AND YOU WILL PUT [IT] ON [THE] HORNS OF THE ALTAR WITH FINGER YOUR AND <OBJ.> ALL THE BLOOD YOU WILL POUR OUT TO [THE] BASE OF THE ALTAR
12 Take some of the blood of the bull and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger; then pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.
13 AND YOU WILL TAKE <OBJ.> ALL THE FAT WHICH COVERS <OBJ.> THE ENTRAILS AND <OBJ.> THE LOBE ON THE LIVER AND <OBJ.> [THE] TWO THE KIDNEYS AND <OBJ.> THE FAT WHICH [IS] ON THEM AND YOU WILL MAKE [THEM] SMOKE THE ALTAR TOWARDS
13 Take all the fat that covers the entrails and the lobe of the liver, and both kidneys with the fat on them, and burn them on the altar.
14 AND <OBJ.> [THE] FLESH OF THE YOUNG BULL AND <OBJ.> HIDE ITS AND <OBJ.> OFFAL ITS YOU WILL BURN WITH <THE> FIRE FROM [THE] OUTSIDE OF THE CAMP [IS] A SIN OFFERING IT
14 But burn the flesh of the bull and its hide and dung outside the camp; it is a sin offering.
15 AND <OBJ.> THE RAM <THE> ONE YOU WILL TAKE AND THEY WILL LAY AARON AND SONS HIS <OBJ.> HANDS THEIR ON [THE] HEAD OF THE RAM
15 Take one of the rams, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head.
16 AND YOU WILL SLAUGHTER <OBJ.> THE RAM AND YOU WILL TAKE <OBJ.> BLOOD ITS AND YOU WILL SPRINKLE [IT] ON THE ALTAR ALL AROUND
16 You are to slaughter the ram, take its blood, and splatter it on all sides of the altar.
17 AND <OBJ.> THE RAM YOU WILL CUT IN PIECES INTO PIECES ITS AND YOU WILL WASH ENTRAILS ITS AND LEGS ITS AND YOU WILL PUT [THEM] WITH PIECES ITS AND WITH HEAD ITS
17 Cut the ram into pieces, wash the entrails and legs, and place them with its head and other pieces.
18 AND YOU WILL MAKE SMOKE <OBJ.> ALL THE RAM THE ALTAR TOWARDS [IS] A BURNT OFFERING IT TO YAHWEH [IS] AN ODOR OF SOOTHING A FIRE OFFERING TO YAHWEH IT
18 Then burn the entire ram on the altar; it is a burnt offering to the LORD, a pleasing aroma, a food offering to the LORD.
19 AND YOU WILL TAKE <OBJ.> THE RAM <THE> SECOND AND HE WILL LAY AARON AND SONS HIS <OBJ.> HANDS THEIR ON [THE] HEAD OF THE RAM
19 Take the second ram, and Aaron and his sons are to lay their hands on its head.
20 AND YOU WILL SLAUGHTER <OBJ.> THE RAM AND YOU WILL TAKE SOME OF BLOOD ITS AND YOU WILL PUT [IT] ON [THE] LOBE OF [THE] EAR OF AARON AND ON [THE] LOBE OF [THE] EAR OF SONS HIS <THE> RIGHT AND ON [THE] THUMB OF HAND THEIR <THE> RIGHT AND ON [THE] BIG TOE OF FOOT THEIR <THE> RIGHT AND YOU WILL SPRINKLE <OBJ.> THE BLOOD ON THE ALTAR ALL AROUND
20 Slaughter the ram, take some of its blood, and put it on the right earlobes of Aaron and his sons on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. Splatter the remaining blood on all sides of the altar.
21 AND YOU WILL TAKE SOME OF THE BLOOD WHICH [IS] ON THE ALTAR AND SOME OF [THE] OIL OF <THE> ANOINTING AND YOU WILL SPATTER [IT] ON AARON AND ON GARMENTS HIS AND ON SONS HIS AND ON [THE] GARMENTS OF SONS HIS WITH HIM AND HE WILL BE HOLY HE AND GARMENTS HIS AND SONS HIS AND [THE] GARMENTS OF SONS HIS WITH HIM
21 And take some of the blood on the altar and some of the anointing oil and sprinkle it on Aaron and his garments, as well as on his sons and their garments. Then he and his garments will be consecrated, as well as his sons and their garments.
22 AND YOU WILL TAKE FROM THE RAM THE FAT AND THE FAT TAIL AND <OBJ.> THE FAT WHICH COVERS <OBJ.> THE ENTRAILS AND <OBJ.> [THE] LOBE OF THE LIVER AND <OBJ.> [THE] TWO THE KIDNEYS AND <OBJ.> THE FAT WHICH [IS] ON THEM AND <OBJ.> [THE] THIGH OF THE RIGHT FOR [IS] A RAM OF INSTALLATION OFFERING<S> IT
22 Take the fat from the ram, the fat tail, the fat covering the entrails, the lobe of the liver, both kidneys with the fat on them, and the right thigh (since this is a ram for ordination),
23 AND A ROUND LOAF OF BREAD ONE AND A CAKE OF BREAD OF OIL ONE AND A WAFER ONE FROM [THE] BASKET OF THE UNLEAVENED BREAD<S> WHICH [WILL BE] <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH
23 along with one loaf of bread, one cake of bread made with oil, and one wafer from the basket of unleavened bread that is before the LORD.
24 AND YOU WILL PUT <THE> EVERYTHING ON [THE] HANDS OF AARON AND ON [THE] HANDS OF SONS HIS AND YOU WILL WAVE <OBJ.> THEM A WAVE-OFFERING <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH
24 Put all these in the hands of Aaron and his sons and wave them before the LORD as a wave offering.
25 AND YOU WILL TAKE <OBJ.> THEM FROM HAND THEIR AND YOU WILL MAKE [THEM] SMOKE THE ALTAR TOWARDS ON THE BURNT OFFERING TO AN ODOR OF SOOTHING <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH [IS] A FIRE OFFERING IT TO YAHWEH
25 Then take them from their hands and burn them on the altar atop the burnt offering as a pleasing aroma before the LORD; it is a food offering to the LORD.
26 AND YOU WILL TAKE <OBJ.> THE BREAST FROM [THE] RAM OF <THE> INSTALLATION OFFERING<S> WHICH [BELONGS] TO AARON AND YOU WILL WAVE <OBJ.> IT A WAVE-OFFERING <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH AND IT WILL BE[LONG] TO <THE> YOU TO A PORTION
26 Take the breast of the ram of Aaron’s ordination and wave it before the LORD as a wave offering, and it will be your portion.
27 AND YOU WILL CONSECRATE <OBJ.> [THE] BREAST OF THE WAVE-OFFERING AND <OBJ.> [THE] THIGH OF THE CONTRIBUTION WHICH IT WAS WAVED AND WHICH IT WAS RAISED FROM [THE] RAM OF <THE> INSTALLATION OFFERING<S> FROM [THAT] WHICH [BELONGS] TO AARON <AND> FROM [THAT] WHICH [BELONGS] TO SONS HIS
27 Consecrate for Aaron and his sons the breast of the wave offering that is waved and the thigh of the heave offering that is lifted up from the ram of ordination.
28 AND IT WILL BELONG TO AARON AND TO SONS HIS TO A PRESCRIBED PORTION OF PERPETUITY FROM WITH [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL FOR [IS] A CONTRIBUTION IT AND A CONTRIBUTION IT WILL BE FROM WITH [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL FROM [THE] SACRIFICES OF PEACE OFFERINGS THEIR CONTRIBUTION THEIR TO YAHWEH
28 This will belong to Aaron and his sons as a regular portion from the Israelites, for it is the heave offering the Israelites will make to the LORD from their peace offerings.
29 AND [THE] GARMENTS OF <THE> HOLINESS WHICH [BELONG] TO AARON THEY WILL BELONG TO SONS HIS AFTER HIM FOR ANOINTING IN <THE> THEM AND TO FILL IN <THE> THEM <OBJ.> HAND THEIR
29 The holy garments that belong to Aaron will belong to his sons after him, so they can be anointed and ordained in them.
30 SEVEN DAYS HE WILL WEAR THEM THE PRIEST IN PLACE OF HIM ONE OF SONS HIS WHO HE WILL COME INTO [THE] TENT OF MEETING TO SERVE IN THE HOLY PLACE
30 The son who succeeds him as priest and enters the Tent of Meeting to minister in the Holy Place must wear them for seven days.
31 AND <OBJ.> [THE] RAM OF <THE> INSTALLATION OFFERING<S> YOU WILL TAKE AND YOU WILL BOIL <OBJ.> MEAT ITS IN A PLACE HOLY
Food for the Priests
31 You are to take the ram of ordination and boil its flesh in a holy place.
32 AND HE WILL EAT AARON AND SONS HIS <OBJ.> [THE] MEAT OF THE RAM AND <OBJ.> THE BREAD WHICH [IS] IN THE BASKET [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] TENT OF MEETING
32 At the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, Aaron and his sons are to eat the meat of the ram and the bread that is in the basket.
33 AND THEY WILL EAT <OBJ.> THEM WHICH IT WAS ATONED BY <THE> THEM TO FILL <OBJ.> HAND THEIR TO CONSECRATE <OBJ.> THEM AND A STRANGER NOT HE WILL EAT [THEM] FOR [ARE] A HOLY THING THEY
33 They must eat those things by which atonement was made for their ordination and consecration. But no outsider may eat them, because these things are sacred.
34 AND IF IT WILL BE LEFT OVER SOME OF [THE] MEAT OF <THE> INSTALLATION OFFERING<S> AND SOME OF THE BREAD UNTIL THE MORNING AND YOU WILL BURN <OBJ.> <THE> WHAT IS LEFT OVER WITH <THE> FIRE NOT IT WILL BE EATEN FOR [IS] A HOLY THING IT
34 And if any of the meat of ordination or any bread is left until the morning, you are to burn up the remainder. It must not be eaten, because it is sacred.
35 AND YOU WILL DO TO AARON AND TO SONS HIS THUS ACCORDING TO ALL THAT I HAVE COMMANDED <OBJ.> YOU SEVEN DAYS YOU WILL FILL HAND THEIR
35 This is what you are to do for Aaron and his sons based on all that I have commanded you, taking seven days to ordain them.
36 AND A YOUNG BULL OF A SIN OFFERING YOU WILL OFFER TO THE DAY ON <THE> ATONEMENT<S> AND YOU WILL MAKE A SIN OFFERING ON THE ALTAR WHEN MAKING ATONEMENT YOU ON IT AND YOU WILL ANOINT <OBJ.> IT TO CONSECRATE IT
36 Sacrifice a bull as a sin offering each day for atonement. Purify the altar by making atonement for it, and anoint it to consecrate it.
37 SEVEN DAYS YOU WILL MAKE ATONEMENT ON THE ALTAR AND YOU WILL CONSECRATE <OBJ.> IT AND IT WILL BE THE ALTAR HOLINESS OF HOLINESS<ES> EVERY <THE> [THING WHICH] TOUCHES <IN> THE ALTAR IT WILL BE HOLY
37 For seven days you shall make atonement for the altar and consecrate it. Then the altar will become most holy; whatever touches the altar will be holy.
38 AND THIS [IS THAT] WHICH YOU WILL OFFER ON THE ALTAR LAMBS SONS OF A YEAR TWO TO THE DAY CONTINUALLY
The Daily Offerings
(Numbers 28:1–8 )
38 This is what you are to offer regularly on the altar, each day: two lambs that are a year old.
39 <OBJ.> THE LAMB <THE> ONE YOU WILL OFFER IN THE MORNING AND <OBJ.> THE LAMB <THE> SECOND YOU WILL OFFER BETWEEN THE EVENINGS
39 Offer one lamb in the morning and the other at twilight.
40 AND A TENTH OF FINE FLOUR MIXED WITH OIL PRESSED <THE> FOURTH PART OF <THE> HIN AND A DRINK OFFERING <THE> FOURTH OF <THE> HIN WINE FOR THE LAMB <THE> ONE
40 With the first lamb offer a tenth of an ephah of fine flour, mixed with a quarter hin of oil from pressed olives, and a drink offering of a quarter hin of wine.
41 AND <OBJ.> THE LAMB <THE> SECOND YOU WILL OFFER BETWEEN THE EVENINGS LIKE [THE] GRAIN OFFERING OF THE MORNING AND LIKE DRINK OFFERING ITS YOU WILL OFFER <TO> <THE> IT TO AN ODOR OF SOOTHING A FIRE OFFERING TO YAHWEH
41 And offer the second lamb at twilight with the same grain offering and drink offering as in the morning, as a pleasing aroma, a food offering to the LORD.
42 A BURNT OFFERING OF CONTINUITY TO GENERATIONS YOUR [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] TENT OF MEETING <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH WHERE I WILL MEET <TO> <THE> YOU THERE <TOWARDS> TO SPEAK TO YOU THERE
42 For the generations to come, this burnt offering shall be made regularly at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting before the LORD, where I will meet you to speak with you.
43 AND I WILL MEET THERE <TOWARDS> <TO> [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND IT WILL BE SHOWN AS HOLY BY GLORY MY
43 I will also meet with the Israelites there, and that place will be consecrated by My glory.
44 AND I WILL CONSECRATE <OBJ.> [THE] TENT OF MEETING AND <OBJ.> THE ALTAR AND <OBJ.> AARON AND <OBJ.> SONS HIS I WILL CONSECRATE TO SERVE AS PRIESTS <TO> <THE> ME
44 So I will consecrate the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and I will consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve Me as priests
45 AND I WILL DWELL IN AMONG [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND I WILL BECOME FOR <THE> THEM <INTO> GOD
God Will Dwell among the People
45 Then I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God.
46 AND THEY WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH GOD THEIR WHO I BROUGHT OUT <OBJ.> THEM FROM [THE] LAND OF EGYPT TO DWELL I IN MIDST OF THEM I [AM] YAHWEH GOD THEIR
46 And they will know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt so that I might dwell among them.
