23<TO> THEREFORE WORTHLESSNESS NOT YOU WILL SEE AND DIVINATION NOT YOU WILL DIVINE AGAIN AND I WILL DELIVER <OBJ.> PEOPLE MY FROM HAND YOUR AND YOU WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH 23therefore you will no longer see false visions or practice divination. I will deliver My people from your hands. Then you will know that I am the LORD.”
1AND HE CAME TO ME MEN FROM [THE] ELDERS OF ISRAEL AND THEY SAT DOWN <TO> BEFORE ME Idolatrous Elders Condemned (Romans 14:13–23; 1 Corinthians 8:1–13) 1Then some of the elders of Israel came and sat down before me.
3O SON OF HUMANKIND THE MEN <THE> THESE THEY HAVE BROUGHT UP IDOLS THEIR ON HEART THEIR AND [THE] STUMBLING BLOCK OF INIQUITY THEIR THEY HAVE PUT BEFORE FACES THEIR ¿ REALLY <TO BE CONSULTED> WILL I LET MYSELF BE CONSULTED BY THEM 3“Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and put wicked stumbling blocks before their faces. Should I consult with them in any way?
4<TO> THEREFORE SPEAK WITH THEM AND YOU WILL SAY TO THEM THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH A PERSON A PERSON FROM [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL WHO HE WILL BRING UP <OBJ.> IDOLS HIS TO HEART HIS AND [THE] STUMBLING BLOCK OF INIQUITY HIS HE WILL PUT BEFORE FACE HIS AND HE WILL GO TO THE PROPHET I YAHWEH I WILL LET MYSELF GIVE AN ANSWER TO HIM HE CAME BY [THE] MULTITUDE OF IDOLS HIS 4Therefore speak to them and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘When any Israelite sets up idols in his heart and puts a wicked stumbling block before his face, and then comes to the prophet, I the LORD will answer him according to his great idolatry,
5SO AS TO CAPTURE <OBJ.> [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL BY HEART THEIR WHO THEY HAVE BECOME ESTRANGED FROM WITH <THE> ME BY IDOLS THEIR ALL OF THEM 5so that I may take hold of the hearts of the people of Israel. For because of their idols, they are all estranged from Me.’
6<TO> THEREFORE SAY TO [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH TURN BACK AND TURN AWAY FROM WITH IDOLS YOUR AND FROM WITH ALL ABOMINATIONS YOUR TURN AWAY FACES YOUR 6Therefore tell the house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Repent and turn away from your idols; turn your faces away from all your abominations.
7FOR A PERSON A PERSON FROM [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL AND FROM THE SOJOURNER WHO HE SOJOURNS IN ISRAEL SO HE MAY SEPARATE HIMSELF FROM AFTER ME AND HE WILL BRING UP IDOLS HIS TO HEART HIS AND [THE] STUMBLING BLOCK OF INIQUITY HIS HE WILL PUT BEFORE FACE HIS AND HE WILL GO TO THE PROPHET TO CONSULT TO <THE> HIM <IN> <THE> ME I YAHWEH [WILL] LET MYSELF GIVE AN ANSWER TO <THE> HIM BY <THE> MYSELF 7For when any Israelite or any foreigner dwelling in Israel separates himself from Me, sets up idols in his heart, and puts a wicked stumbling block before his face, and then comes to the prophet to inquire of Me, I the LORD will answer him Myself.
8AND I WILL SET FACE MY ON THE PERSON <THE> THAT AND I WILL MAKE HIM INTO A SIGN AND INTO BYWORDS AND I WILL CUT OFF HIM FROM AMONG PEOPLE MY AND YOU WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH 8I will set My face against that man and make him a sign and a proverb; I will cut him off from among My people. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
9AND THE PROPHET IF HE WILL BE DECEIVED AND HE WILL SPEAK A WORD I YAHWEH I HAVE DECEIVED <OBJ.> THE PROPHET <THE> THAT AND I WILL STRETCH OUT <OBJ.> HAND MY ON HIM AND I WILL DESTROY HIM FROM AMONG PEOPLE MY ISRAEL 9But if the prophet is enticed to speak a message, then it was I the LORD who enticed him, and I will stretch out My hand against him and destroy him from among My people Israel.
10AND THEY WILL BEAR INIQUITY THEIR AS [THE] INIQUITY OF THE ENQUIRER AS [THE] INIQUITY OF THE PROPHET IT WILL BE 10They will bear their punishment— the punishment of the inquirer will be the same as that of the prophet—
11SO THAT NOT THEY WILL WANDER AGAIN [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL FROM AFTER ME AND NOT THEY WILL MAKE THEMSELVES UNCLEAN AGAIN BY ALL TRANSGRESSIONS THEIR AND THEY WILL BECOME FOR ME <INTO> A PEOPLE AND I I WILL BECOME FOR THEM <INTO> GOD [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH 11in order that the house of Israel may no longer stray from Me and no longer defile themselves with all their transgressions. Then they will be My people and I will be their God, declares the Lord GOD.’”
12AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO ME <TO> SAYING Four Dire Judgments 12And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
13O SON OF HUMANKIND A LAND IF IT WILL SIN TO ME BY ACTING UNFAITHFULLY UNFAITHFULNESS AND I WILL STRETCH OUT HAND MY ON IT AND I WILL BREAK OF IT STAFF OF BREAD AND I WILL SEND ON IT FAMINE AND I WILL CUT OFF FROM IT HUMANKIND AND ANIMAL[S] 13“Son of man, if a land sins against Me by acting unfaithfully, and I stretch out My hand against it to cut off its supply*NoteCloseHebrew staff of food, to send famine upon it, and to cut off from it both man and beast,
14AND THEY WILL BE [THE] THREE THE MEN <THE> THESE IN [THE] MIDST OF IT NOAH DANIEL AND JOB THEY BY RIGHTEOUSNESS THEIR THEY WILL DELIVER OWN LIFE THEIR [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH 14then even if these three men— Noah, Daniel, and Job— were in it, their righteousness could deliver only themselves, declares the Lord GOD.
15IF ANIMAL[S] WILD I WILL CAUSE TO PASS IN THE LAND AND IT WILL MAKE CHILDLESS IT AND IT WILL BE A DESOLATION BECAUSE NOT [ONE WHO] PASSES BY <FROM> BECAUSE OF THE ANIMAL[S] 15Or if I send wild beasts through the land to leave it childless and desolate, with no man passing through it for fear of the beasts,
16[THE] THREE THE MEN <THE> THESE [WILL BE] IN [THE] MIDST OF IT [BY] [THE] LIFE OF ME [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH IF SONS AND IF DAUGHTERS THEY WILL DELIVER THEY TO ALONE THEM THEY WILL BE DELIVERED AND THE LAND IT WILL BE A DESOLATION 16then as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, even if these three men were in it, they could not deliver their own sons or daughters. They alone would be delivered, but the land would be desolate.
17OR A SWORD I WILL BRING ON THE LAND <THE> THAT AND I WILL SAY A SWORD LET IT PASS IN THE LAND AND I WILL CUT OFF FROM IT HUMANKIND AND ANIMAL[S] 17Or if I bring a sword against that land and say, ‘Let a sword pass through it,’ so that I cut off from it both man and beast,
18AND [THE] THREE THE MEN <THE> THESE [WILL BE] IN [THE] MIDST OF IT [BY] [THE] LIFE OF ME [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH NOT THEY WILL DELIVER SONS AND DAUGHTERS FOR THEY TO ALONE THEM THEY WILL BE DELIVERED 18then as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, even if these three men were in it, they could not deliver their own sons or daughters. They alone would be delivered.
19OR PESTILENCE I WILL SEND AGAINST THE LAND <THE> THAT AND I WILL POUR OUT RAGE MY ON IT BY BLOOD TO CUT OFF FROM IT HUMANKIND AND ANIMAL[S] 19Or if I send a plague into that land and pour out My wrath upon it through bloodshed, cutting off from it both man and beast,
20AND NOAH DANIEL AND JOB [WILL BE] IN [THE] MIDST OF IT [BY] [THE] LIFE OF ME [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH IF A SON IF A DAUGHTER THEY WILL DELIVER THEY BY RIGHTEOUSNESS THEIR THEY WILL DELIVER OWN LIFE THEIR 20then as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, they could not deliver their own sons or daughters. Their righteousness could deliver only themselves.
21FOR THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH INDEED? IF [THE] FOUR JUDGMENTS MY <THE> HARMFUL SWORD AND FAMINE AND ANIMAL[S] WILD AND PESTILENCE I WILL SEND AGAINST JERUSALEM TO CUT OFF FROM IT HUMANKIND AND ANIMAL[S] 21For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘How much worse will it be when I send against Jerusalem My four dire judgments— sword, famine, wild beasts, and plague— in order to cut off from it both man and beast?
22AND THERE! IT WILL BE LEFT IN IT AN ESCAPED REMNANT <THE> ABOUT TO BE LED OUT SONS AND DAUGHTERS THERE THEY [ARE] ABOUT TO COME OUT TO YOU AND YOU WILL SEE <OBJ.> CONDUCT THEIR AND <OBJ.> PRACTICES THEIR AND YOU WILL BE COMFORTED ON THE CALAMITY WHICH I HAVE BROUGHT ON JERUSALEM <OBJ.> ALL THAT I HAVE BROUGHT ON IT 22Yet behold, some survivors will be left in it— sons and daughters who will be brought out. They will come out to you, and when you see their conduct and actions, you will be comforted regarding the disaster I have brought upon Jerusalem— all that I have brought upon it.
23AND THEY WILL COMFORT <OBJ.> YOU IF YOU WILL SEE <OBJ.> CONDUCT THEIR AND <OBJ.> PRACTICES THEIR AND YOU WILL KNOW THAT NOT WITHOUT CAUSE I HAVE DONE <OBJ.> ALL THAT I HAVE DONE IN IT [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH 23They will bring you consolation when you see their conduct and actions, and you will know that it was not without cause that I have done all these things within it,’ declares the Lord GOD.”
