1 AND IT WAS ALL THE EARTH LANGUAGE ONE AND WORDS ONE<S>
2 AND IT WAS WHEN SET OUT THEY FROM [THE] EAST AND THEY FOUND A PLAIN IN [THE] LAND OF SHINAR AND THEY DWELT THERE
2 And as people journeyed eastward, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.
3 AND THEY SAID EACH TO NEIGHBOR HIS GIVE ! LET US MAKE BRICKS BRICKS AND LET US BURN [THEM] TO BURNING AND <IT> BECAME FOR <THE> THEM <THE> BRICK TO STONE AND <THE> BITUMEN <IT> BECAME FOR <THE> THEM TO <THE> MORTAR
3 And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” So they used brick instead of stone, and tar instead of mortar.
4 AND THEY SAID GIVE ! LET US BUILD FOR <THE> OURSELVES A CITY AND A TOWER AND TOP ITS [WILL BE] IN THE HEAVENS AND WE MAY MAKE FOR <THE> OURSELVES A NAME LEST WE SHOULD BE SCATTERED OVER [THE] SURFACE OF ALL THE EARTH
4 “Come,” they said, “let us build for ourselves a city with a tower that reaches to the heavens, that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of all the earth.”
5 AND HE CAME DOWN YAHWEH TO SEE <OBJ.> THE CITY AND <OBJ.> THE TOWER WHICH THEY HAD BUILT [THE] CHILDREN OF <THE> HUMANKIND
5 Then the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the sons of men were building.
6 AND HE SAID YAHWEH HERE! A PEOPLE ONE AND A LANGUAGE ONE [BELONGS] TO ALL OF THEM AND THIS [IS] BEGINNING THEY TO DO AND NOW NOT IT WILL BE WITHHELD FROM <THE> THEM ALL THAT THEY WILL PLAN TO DO
6 And the LORD said, “If they have begun to do this as one people speaking the same language, then nothing they devise will be beyond them.
7 GIVE ! LET US GO DOWN AND LET US CONFUSE THERE LANGUAGE THEIR THAT NOT THEY WILL HEAR EACH [THE] LANGUAGE OF NEIGHBOR HIS
7 Come, let Us go down and confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”
8 AND HE SCATTERED YAHWEH <OBJ.> THEM FROM THERE OVER [THE] SURFACE OF ALL THE EARTH AND THEY CEASED TO BUILD THE CITY
8 So the LORD scattered them from there over the face of all the earth, and they stopped building the city.
9 THERE- -FORE SOMEONE CALLED NAME ITS BABEL FOR THERE HE CONFUSED YAHWEH [THE] LANGUAGE OF ALL THE EARTH AND FROM THERE HE SCATTERED THEM YAHWEH OVER [THE] SURFACE OF ALL THE EARTH
9 That is why it is called Babel, for there the LORD confused the language of the whole world, and from that place the LORD scattered them over the face of all the earth.
10 THESE [ARE] [THE] ACCOUNTS OF SHEM SHEM [WAS] A SON OF ONE HUNDRED YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED <OBJ.> ARPHAXAD TWO YEARS AFTER THE FLOOD
Genealogy from Shem to Abram
(1 Chronicles 1:17–27 )
10 This is the account of Shem. Two years after the flood, when Shem was 100 years old, he became the father of Arphaxad.
11 AND HE LIVED SHEM AFTER FATHERED HE <OBJ.> ARPHAXAD FIVE HUNDRED<S> YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED SONS AND DAUGHTERS
11 And after he had become the father of Arphaxad, Shem lived 500 years and had other sons and daughters.
12 AND ARPHAXAD HE LIVED FIVE AND THIRTY YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED <OBJ.> SHELAH
12 When Arphaxad was 35 years old, he became the father of Shelah.
13 AND HE LIVED ARPHAXAD AFTER FATHERED HE <OBJ.> SHELAH THREE YEARS AND FOUR HUNDRED<S> YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED SONS AND DAUGHTERS
13 And after he had become the father of Shelah, Arphaxad lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters.
14 AND SHELAH HE LIVED THIRTY YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED <OBJ.> EBER
14 When Shelah was 30 years old, he became the father of Eber.
15 AND HE LIVED SHELAH AFTER FATHERED HE <OBJ.> EBER THREE YEARS AND FOUR HUNDRED<S> YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED SONS AND DAUGHTERS
15 And after he had become the father of Eber, Shelah lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters.
16 AND HE LIVED EBER FOUR AND THIRTY YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED <OBJ.> PELEG
16 When Eber was 34 years old, he became the father of Peleg.
17 AND HE LIVED EBER AFTER FATHERED HE <OBJ.> PELEG THIRTY YEAR[S] AND FOUR HUNDRED<S> YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED SONS AND DAUGHTERS
17 And after he had become the father of Peleg, Eber lived 430 years and had other sons and daughters.
18 AND HE LIVED PELEG THIRTY YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED <OBJ.> REU
18 When Peleg was 30 years old, he became the father of Reu.
19 AND HE LIVED PELEG AFTER FATHERED HE <OBJ.> REU NINE YEARS AND TWO HUNDRED YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED SONS AND DAUGHTERS
19 And after he had become the father of Reu, Peleg lived 209 years and had other sons and daughters.
20 AND HE LIVED REU TWO AND THIRTY YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED <OBJ.> SERUG
20 When Reu was 32 years old, he became the father of Serug.
21 AND HE LIVED REU AFTER FATHERED HE <OBJ.> SERUG SEVEN YEARS AND TWO HUNDRED YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED SONS AND DAUGHTERS
21 And after he had become the father of Serug, Reu lived 207 years and had other sons and daughters.
22 AND HE LIVED SERUG THIRTY YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED <OBJ.> NAHOR
22 When Serug was 30 years old, he became the father of Nahor.
23 AND HE LIVED SERUG AFTER FATHERED HE <OBJ.> NAHOR TWO HUNDRED YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED SONS AND DAUGHTERS
23 And after he had become the father of Nahor, Serug lived 200 years and had other sons and daughters.
24 AND HE LIVED NAHOR NINE AND TWENTY YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED <OBJ.> TERAH
24 When Nahor was 29 years old, he became the father of Terah.
25 AND HE LIVED NAHOR AFTER FATHERED HE <OBJ.> TERAH NINE- TEEN YEAR[S] AND ONE HUNDRED YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED SONS AND DAUGHTERS
25 And after he had become the father of Terah, Nahor lived 119 years and had other sons and daughters.
26 AND HE LIVED TERAH SEVENTY YEAR[S] AND HE FATHERED <OBJ.> ABRAM <OBJ.> NAHOR AND <OBJ.> HARAN
26 When Terah was 70 years old, he became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27 AND THESE [ARE] [THE] ACCOUNTS OF TERAH TERAH HE FATHERED <OBJ.> ABRAM <OBJ.> NAHOR AND <OBJ.> HARAN AND HARAN HE FATHERED <OBJ.> LOT
Terah’s Descendants
27 This is the account of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot.
28 AND HE DIED HARAN ON [THE] FACE OF TERAH FATHER HIS IN [THE] LAND OF KINDRED HIS IN UR OF [THE] CHALDEANS
28 During his father Terah’s lifetime, Haran died in his native land, in Ur of the Chaldeans.
29 AND HE TOOK ABRAM AND NAHOR FOR <THE> THEMSELVES WIVES [THE] NAME OF [THE] WIFE OF ABRAM [WAS] SARAI AND [THE] NAME OF [THE] WIFE OF NAHOR [WAS] MILCAH [THE] DAUGHTER OF HARAN [THE] FATHER OF MILCAH AND [THE] FATHER OF ISCAH
29 And Abram and Nahor took wives for themselves. Abram’s wife was named Sarai, and Nahor’s wife was named Milcah; she was the daughter of Haran, who was the father of both Milcah and Iscah.
30 AND SHE WAS SARAI BARREN NOT [BELONGED] TO <THE> HER A CHILD
30 But Sarai was barren; she had no children.
31 AND HE TOOK TERAH <OBJ.> ABRAM SON HIS AND <OBJ.> LOT [THE] SON OF HARAN [THE] SON OF SON HIS AND <OBJ.> SARAI DAUGHTER-IN-LAW HIS [THE] WIFE OF ABRAM SON HIS AND THEY WENT OUT WITH THEM FROM UR OF [THE] CHALDEANS TO GO [THE] LAND OF TOWARDS CANAAN AND THEY CAME TO HARAN AND THEY DWELT THERE
31 And Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai the wife of Abram, and they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans for the land of Canaan. But when they arrived in Haran, they settled there.
32 AND THEY WERE [THE] DAYS OF TERAH FIVE YEARS AND TWO HUNDRED YEAR[S] AND HE DIED TERAH IN HARAN
32 Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Haran.
