40AND ALL THE VALLEY OF THE CORPSES AND THE FATTY ASH AND ALL THE TERRACED FIELDS TO [THE] WADI OF KIDRON TO [THE] CORNER OF [THE] GATE OF THE HORSES EAST -WARD [WILL BE] HOLY TO YAHWEH NOT IT WILL BE PLUCKED UP AND NOT IT WILL BE TORN DOWN AGAIN FOR EVER 40The whole valley of the dead bodies and ashes, and all the fields as far as the Kidron Valley, to the corner of the Horse Gate to the east, will be holy to the LORD. It will never again be uprooted or demolished.”
1THE WORD WHICH IT CAME TO JEREMIAH FROM WITH YAHWEH IN THE YEAR <THE> TENTH OF ZEDEKIAH [THE] KING OF JUDAH THAT [WAS] THE YEAR EIGHT- TEEN YEAR OF NEBUCHADNEZZAR Jeremiah Buys Hanamel’s Field 1This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar.
2AND THEN [THE] ARMY OF [THE] KING OF BABYLON [WERE] LAYING SIEGE ON JERUSALEM AND JEREMIAH THE PROPHET HE WAS SHUT UP IN [THE] COURTYARD OF THE GUARD WHICH [WAS] [THE] HOUSE OF [THE] KING OF JUDAH 2At that time the army of the king of Babylon was besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was imprisoned in the courtyard of the guard, which was in the palace of the king of Judah.
3WHERE HE HAD SHUT UP HIM ZEDEKIAH [THE] KING OF JUDAH <TO> SAYING WHY? [ARE] YOU PROPHESYING <TO> SAYING THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO GIVE <OBJ.> THE CITY <THE> THIS IN [THE] HAND OF [THE] KING OF BABYLON AND HE WILL CAPTURE IT 3For Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him, saying: “Why are you prophesying like this? You claim that the LORD says, ‘Behold, I am about to deliver this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will capture it.
4AND ZEDEKIAH [THE] KING OF JUDAH NOT HE WILL ESCAPE FROM [THE] HAND OF THE CHALDEANS FOR CERTAINLY <TO BE GIVEN> HE WILL BE GIVEN IN [THE] HAND OF [THE] KING OF BABYLON AND IT WILL SPEAK MOUTH HIS WITH MOUTH HIS AND EYES HIS <OBJ.> EYES HIS THEY WILL SEE 4Zedekiah king of Judah will not escape from the hands of the Chaldeans,*NoteCloseThat is, the Babylonians; also in verses 5, 24, 25, 28, 29, and 43 but he will surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and will speak with him face to face and see him eye to eye.
5AND BABYLON HE WILL TAKE <OBJ.> ZEDEKIAH AND THERE HE WILL BE UNTIL GIVE ATTENTION TO I <OBJ.> HIM [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH IF YOU WILL FIGHT WITH THE CHALDEANS NOT YOU WILL SUCCEED 5He will take Zedekiah to Babylon, where he will stay until I attend to him, declares the LORD. If you fight against the Chaldeans, you will not succeed.’”
6AND HE SAID JEREMIAH IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO ME <TO> SAYING 6Jeremiah replied, “The word of the LORD came to me, saying:
7HERE! HANAMEL [THE] SON OF SHALLUM UNCLE YOUR [IS] ABOUT TO COME TO YOU <TO> SAYING BUY FOR <THE> YOURSELF <OBJ.> FIELD MY WHICH [IS] AT ANATHOTH FOR [BELONGS] TO <THE> YOU [THE] RIGHT OF <THE> REDEMPTION TO BUY [IT] 7Behold! Hanamel, the son of your uncle Shallum, is coming to you to say, ‘Buy for yourself my field in Anathoth, for you have the right of redemption to buy it.’
8AND HE CAME TO ME HANAMEL [THE] SON OF UNCLE MY ACCORDING TO [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO [THE] COURTYARD OF THE GUARD AND HE SAID TO ME BUY PLEASE <OBJ.> FIELD MY WHICH [IS] AT ANATHOTH WHICH [IS] IN [THE] LAND OF BENJAMIN FOR [BELONGS] TO <THE> YOU [THE] RIGHT OF <THE> POSSESSION AND [BELONGS] TO <THE> YOU THE REDEMPTION BUY [IT] FOR <THE> YOURSELF AND I KNEW THAT [WAS] [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH IT 8Then, as the LORD had said, my cousin Hanamel came to me in the courtyard of the guard and urged me, ‘Please buy my field in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for you own the right of inheritance and redemption. Buy it for yourself.’” Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.
9AND I BOUGHT <OBJ.> THE FIELD FROM WITH HANAMEL [THE] SON OF UNCLE MY WHICH [WAS] AT ANATHOTH AND I WEIGHED OUT! FOR <THE> HIM <OBJ.> THE SILVER [WAS] SEVEN SHEKELS AND TEN THE SILVER 9So I bought the field in Anathoth from my cousin Hanamel, and I weighed out seventeen shekels of silver.*NoteClose17 shekels is approximately 6.8 ounces or 193.8 grams of silver.
10AND I WROTE ON THE DOCUMENT AND I SEALED [IT] AND I CAUSED TO WITNESS [IT] WITNESSES AND I WEIGHED OUT THE SILVER ON SCALES 10I signed and sealed the deed, called in witnesses, and weighed out the silver on the scales.
11AND I TOOK <OBJ.> [THE] DOCUMENT OF THE PURCHASE <OBJ.> THE SEALED [ONE] THE ORDER AND THE CONDITIONS AND <OBJ.> THE UNCOVERED [ONE] 11Then I took the deed of purchase— the sealed copy with its terms and conditions, as well as the open copy—
12AND I GAVE <OBJ.> THE DOCUMENT THE PURCHASE TO BARUCH [THE] SON OF NERIAH [THE] SON OF MAHSEIAH TO [THE] EYES OF HANAMEL UNCLE MY AND TO [THE] EYES OF THE WITNESSES WHO WROTE ON [THE] DOCUMENT OF THE PURCHASE TO [THE] EYES OF ALL THE JEWS WHO WERE SITTING IN [THE] COURTYARD OF THE GUARD 12and I gave this deed to Baruch son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, in the sight of my cousin Hanamel and the witnesses who were signing the purchase agreement and all the Jews sitting in the courtyard of the guard.
14THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH OF HOSTS [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL TAKE <OBJ.> THE DOCUMENTS <THE> THESE <OBJ.> [THE] DOCUMENT OF THE PURCHASE <THE> THIS AND <OBJ.> THE SEALED [ONE] AND <OBJ.> [THE] DOCUMENT <THE> UNCOVERED <THE> THIS AND YOU WILL PUT THEM IN A VESSEL OF EARTHENWARE SO THAT THEY MAY REMAIN DAYS MANY 14“This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Take these deeds— both the sealed copy and the open copy of the deed of purchase— and put them in a clay jar to preserve them for a long time.
15FOR THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH OF HOSTS [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL AGAIN THEY WILL BE BOUGHT HOUSES AND FIELDS AND VINEYARDS IN THE LAND <THE> THIS 15For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Houses, fields, and vineyards will again be bought in this land.”
16AND I PRAYED TO YAHWEH AFTER GAVE I <OBJ.> [THE] DOCUMENT OF THE PURCHASE TO BARUCH [THE] SON OF NERIAH <TO> SAYING Jeremiah Prays for Understanding 16After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch son of Neriah, I prayed to the LORD:
17ALAS! O LORD YAHWEH THERE! YOU YOU MADE <OBJ.> THE HEAVENS AND <OBJ.> THE EARTH BY STRENGTH YOUR <THE> GREAT AND BY ARM YOUR <THE> OUTSTRETCHED NOT IT IS [TOO] DIFFICULT FOR YOU ANY THING 17“Oh, Lord GOD! You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You!
18[WHO] DOES COVENANT LOYALTY TO THOUSANDS AND [WHO] PAYS BACK [THE] INIQUITY OF FATHERS INTO [THE] BOSOM OF CHILDREN THEIR AFTER THEM <THE> GOD <THE> GREAT <THE> MIGHTY [IS] YAHWEH OF HOSTS NAME HIS 18You show loving devotion to thousands but lay the iniquity of the fathers into the laps*NoteCloseHebrew into the bosom of their children after them, O great and mighty God whose name is the LORD of Hosts,
19<THE> GREAT OF <THE> COUNSEL AND [THE] GREAT OF <THE> DEED[S] WHO EYES YOUR [ARE] OPENED ON ALL [THE] WAYS OF [THE] CHILDREN OF HUMANKIND TO GIVE TO EVERYONE ACCORDING TO WAYS HIS AND ACCORDING TO [THE] FRUIT OF DEEDS HIS 19the One great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are on all the ways of the sons of men, to reward each one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds.
20WHO YOU PERFORMED SIGNS AND WONDERS IN [THE] LAND OF EGYPT UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS AND IN ISRAEL AND AMONG <THE> HUMANKIND AND YOU HAVE MADE FOR <THE> YOURSELF A NAME AS THE DAY <THE> THIS 20You performed signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and You do so to this very day, both in Israel and among all mankind. And You have made a name for Yourself, as is the case to this day.
21AND YOU BROUGHT OUT <OBJ.> PEOPLE YOUR <OBJ.> ISRAEL FROM [THE] LAND OF EGYPT BY SIGNS AND BY WONDERS AND BY A HAND STRONG AND BY AN ARM OUTSTRETCHED AND WITH TERROR GREAT 21You brought Your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and wonders, with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and with great terror.
22AND YOU GAVE TO <THE> THEM <OBJ.> THE LAND <THE> THIS WHICH YOU HAD SWORN TO ANCESTORS THEIR TO GIVE TO <THE> THEM A LAND FLOWING OF MILK AND HONEY 22You gave them this land that You had sworn to give their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.
23AND THEY CAME AND THEY TOOK POSSESSION OF <OBJ.> IT AND NOT THEY LISTENED TO VOICE YOUR AND IN LAW YOUR NOT THEY WALKED <OBJ.> ALL THAT YOU HAD COMMANDED TO <THE> THEM TO DO NOT THEY DID AND YOU HAVE CAUSED TO HAPPEN TO <OBJ.> THEM <OBJ.> ALL THE CALAMITY <THE> THIS 23They came in and possessed it, but they did not obey Your voice or walk in Your law. They failed to perform all that You commanded them to do, and so You have brought upon them all this disaster.
24THERE! THE MOUNDS THEY HAVE COME THE CITY TO CAPTURE IT AND THE CITY IT HAS BEEN GIVEN IN [THE] HAND OF THE CHALDEANS WHO ARE FIGHTING ON IT <FROM> BECAUSE OF THE SWORD AND THE FAMINE AND THE PESTILENCE AND [THAT] WHICH YOU SPOKE IT HAS HAPPENED AND THERE YOU [ARE] SEEING [IT] 24See how the siege ramps are mounted against the city to capture it. And by sword and famine and plague, the city has been given into the hands of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it. What You have spoken has happened, as You now see!
25AND YOU YOU HAVE SAID TO ME O LORD YAHWEH BUY FOR <THE> YOURSELF THE FIELD WITH <THE> SILVER AND CAUSE TO WITNESS [IT] WITNESSES AND THE CITY IT HAS BEEN GIVEN IN [THE] HAND OF THE CHALDEANS 25Yet You, O Lord GOD, have said to me, ‘Buy for yourself the field with silver and call in witnesses, even though the city has been delivered into the hands of the Chaldeans!’”
26AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO JEREMIAH <TO> SAYING The LORD Answers Jeremiah 26Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
27HERE! I [AM] YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ALL FLESH ¿ FOR ME IS IT [TOO] DIFFICULT ANY THING 27“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too difficult for Me?
28<TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO GIVE <OBJ.> THE CITY <THE> THIS IN [THE] HAND OF THE CHALDEANS AND IN [THE] HAND OF NEBUCHADNEZZAR [THE] KING OF BABYLON AND HE WILL CAPTURE IT 28Therefore this is what the LORD says: Behold, I am about to deliver this city into the hands of the Chaldeans and of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who will capture it.
29AND THEY WILL COME THE CHALDEANS WHO ARE FIGHTING ON THE CITY <THE> THIS AND THEY WILL SET ON FIRE <OBJ.> THE CITY <THE> THIS WITH <THE> FIRE AND THEY WILL BURN IT AND <OBJ.> THE HOUSES WHICH PEOPLE MADE SMOKE ON ROOFS THEIR TO <THE> BAAL AND THEY POURED OUT DRINK OFFERINGS TO GODS OTHER SO AS TO PROVOKE TO ANGER ME 29And the Chaldeans who are fighting against this city will come in, set it on fire and burn it, along with the houses of those who provoked Me to anger by burning incense to Baal on their rooftops and by pouring out drink offerings to other gods.
30FOR THEY HAVE BEEN [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND [THE] PEOPLE OF JUDAH ONLY DOING THE EVIL IN VIEW MY SINCE YOUTH<S> THEIR FOR [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL ONLY [ARE] PROVOKING TO ANGER <OBJ.> ME BY [THE] WORK OF HANDS THEIR [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH 30For the children of Israel and of Judah have done nothing but evil in My sight from their youth; indeed, they have done nothing but provoke Me to anger by the work of their hands, declares the LORD.
31THAT ON ANGER MY AND ON RAGE MY IT HAS BEEN TO <THE> ME THE CITY <THE> THIS <TO> FROM THE DAY WHEN THEY BUILT <OBJ.> IT AND UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS TO REMOVE IT FROM ON FACE MY 31For this city has aroused My wrath and fury from the day it was built until now. Therefore I will remove it from My presence
32ON ALL [THE] EVIL OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND [THE] PEOPLE OF JUDAH WHICH THEY HAVE DONE TO PROVOKE TO ANGER ME THEY KINGS THEIR OFFICIALS THEIR PRIESTS THEIR AND PROPHETS THEIR AND EVERYONE OF JUDAH AND [THE] INHABITANTS OF JERUSALEM 32because of all the evil the children of Israel and of Judah have done to provoke Me to anger— they, their kings, their officials, their priests and prophets, the men of Judah, and the residents of Jerusalem.
33AND THEY TURNED TO ME A BACK AND NOT A FACE AND I TAUGHT <OBJ.> THEM RISING EARLY AND TEACHING AND NOT THEY [WERE] LISTENING TO ACCEPT CORRECTION 33They have turned their backs to Me and not their faces. Though I taught them again and again,*NoteCloseLiterally I taught them, rising up early and teaching, they would not listen or respond to discipline.
34AND THEY PUT DETESTABLE THINGS THEIR IN THE HOUSE WHICH IT WAS CALLED NAME MY ON IT TO MAKE UNCLEAN IT 34They have placed their abominations in the house that bears My Name, and so have defiled it.
35AND THEY BUILT <OBJ.> [THE] HIGH PLACES OF <THE> BAAL WHICH [ARE] IN [THE] VALLEY OF BEN HINNOM TO MAKE PASS THROUGH <OBJ.> SONS THEIR AND <OBJ.> DAUGHTERS THEIR TO <THE> MOLECH WHICH NOT I HAD COMMANDED THEM AND NOT IT HAD COME UP ON HEART MY TO DO THE ABOMINATION <THE> THIS SO AS TO CAUSE TO SIN <OBJ.> JUDAH 35They have built the high places of Baal in the Valley of Ben-hinnom to make their sons and daughters pass through the fire to Molech— something I never commanded them, nor had it ever entered My mind, that they should commit such an abomination and cause Judah to sin.
36AND NOW <TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL CONCERNING THE CITY <THE> THIS WHICH YOU [ARE] SAYING IT HAS BEEN GIVEN IN [THE] HAND OF [THE] KING OF BABYLON BY THE SWORD AND BY <THE> FAMINE AND BY <THE> PESTILENCE A Promise of Restoration (Ezekiel 11:13–21) 36Now therefore, about this city of which you say, ‘It will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword and famine and plague,’ this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says:
37HERE I [WILL BE] GATHERING THEM FROM ALL THE LANDS WHERE I HAVE BANISHED THEM THERE IN ANGER MY AND IN RAGE MY AND IN WRATH GREAT AND I WILL BRING BACK THEM TO THE PLACE <THE> THIS AND I WILL CAUSE TO DWELL THEM TO SECURITY 37I will surely gather My people from all the lands to which I have banished them in My furious anger and great wrath, and I will return them to this place and make them dwell in safety.

39AND I WILL GIVE TO <THE> THEM A HEART ONE AND A WAY ONE TO FEAR <OBJ.> ME ALL THE DAYS FOR GOOD FOR THEM AND FOR CHILDREN THEIR AFTER THEM 39I will give them one heart and one way, so that they will always fear Me. for their own good and for the good of their children after them.
40AND I WILL MAKE TO <THE> THEM A COVENANT OF PERPETUITY WHICH NOT I WILL TURN BACK FROM AFTER THEM TO DO GOOD TO I <OBJ.> THEM AND <OBJ.> FEAR MY I WILL PUT IN HEART THEIR TO NOT TO TURN ASIDE FROM WITH <THE> ME 40I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never turn away from doing good to them, and I will put My fear in their hearts, so that they will never turn away from Me.
41AND I WILL REJOICE ON THEM TO DO GOOD TO <OBJ.> THEM AND I WILL PLANT THEM IN THE LAND <THE> THIS IN FAITHFULNESS WITH ALL HEART MY AND WITH ALL BEING MY 41Yes I will rejoice in doing them good and I will faithfully plant them in this land with all My heart and with all My soul.
42FOR THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH JUST AS I HAVE BROUGHT TO THE PEOPLE <THE> THIS <OBJ.> ALL THE CALAMITY <THE> GREAT <THE> THIS SO I [WILL] BRING ON THEM <OBJ.> ALL THE GOOD WHICH I [AM] SPEAKING TO THEM 42For this is what the LORD says: Just as I have brought all this great disaster on this people, so I will bring on them all the good I have promised them.
43AND IT WILL BE BOUGHT THE FIELD IN THE LAND <THE> THIS WHICH YOU [ARE] SAYING [IS] A DESOLATION IT FROM NOT HUMAN BEING AND AN ANIMAL IT HAS BEEN GIVEN IN [THE] HAND OF THE CHALDEANS 43And fields will be bought in this land about which you are saying, ‘It is a desolation, without man or beast; it has been delivered into the hands of the Chaldeans.’
44FIELDS FOR <THE> SILVER PEOPLE WILL BUY AND THEY WILL WRITE ON THE DOCUMENT AND THEY WILL SEAL [IT] AND CAUSE TO WITNESS [IT] WITNESSES IN [THE] LAND OF BENJAMIN AND IN [THE] SURROUNDINGS OF JERUSALEM AND IN [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH AND IN [THE] CITIES OF THE HILL COUNTRY AND IN [THE] CITIES OF THE SHEPHELAH AND IN [THE] CITIES OF THE NEGEV FOR I WILL TURN BACK <OBJ.> CAPTIVITY THEIR [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH 44Fields will be purchased with silver, and deeds will be signed, sealed, and witnessed in the land of Benjamin, in the areas surrounding Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah— the cities of the hill country, the foothills,*NoteCloseHebrew Shephelah or lowlands; that is, the western foothills of Judea and the Negev— because I will restore them from captivity,*NoteCloseOr restore their fortunes declares the LORD.”
