1THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO ROUSE ON BABYLON AND AGAINST [THE] INHABITANTS LEB- -QAMAI A WIND A DESTROYER Judgment on Babylon 1This is what the LORD says: “Behold, I will stir up against Babylon and against the people of Leb-kamai*NoteCloseLeb-kamai is a code name for Chaldea, that is, Babylonia. the spirit of a destroyer.
2AND I WILL SEND TO BABYLON STRANGERS AND THEY WILL WINNOW IT AND THEY MAY LAY WASTE <OBJ.> LAND ITS FOR THEY WILL BE ON IT FROM ROUND ABOUT ON [THE] DAY OF CALAMITY 2I will send strangers to Babylon to winnow her and empty her land; for they will come against her from every side in her day of disaster.

6FLEE FROM [THE] MIDST OF BABYLON AND SAVE EVERYONE LIFE HIS MAY NOT YOU BE DESTROYED IN INIQUITY ITS FOR [IS] A TIME OF VENGEANCE IT FOR YAHWEH RECOMPENSE HE [IS] ABOUT TO REPAY TO <THE> IT 6Flee from Babylon! Escape with your lives! Do not be destroyed in her punishment. For this is the time of the LORD’s vengeance; He will pay her what she deserves.
7[WAS] A CUP OF GOLD BABYLON IN [THE] HAND OF YAHWEH MAKING DRUNK ALL THE EARTH SOME OF WINE ITS THEY HAVE DRUNK NATIONS THERE- -FORE THEY ARE ACTING LIKE MAD PEOPLE NATIONS 7Babylon was a gold cup in the hand of the LORD, making the whole earth drunk. The nations drank her wine; therefore the nations have gone mad.
8SUDDENLY IT WILL FALL BABYLON AND IT WAS BROKEN WAIL ON IT GET BALM FOR PAIN ITS PERHAPS IT WILL BE HEALED 8Suddenly Babylon has fallen and been shattered. Wail for her; get her balm for her pain; perhaps she can be healed.
9WE HEALED <OBJ.> BABYLON AND NOT IT WAS HEALED LEAVE IT SO WE MAY GO EVERYONE TO OWN LAND HIS FOR IT HAS REACHED TO THE HEAVENS JUDGMENT ITS AND IT HAS BEEN LIFTED UP TO [THE] CLOUDS 9“We tried to heal Babylon, but she could not be healed. 13O [ONE WHO] DWELLS AT WATERS MANY GREATNESS OF TREASURES IT HAS COME END YOUR [THE] CUBIT OF CUTTING OFF YOUR 13You who dwell by many waters, rich in treasures, your end has come; the thread of your life is cut.
14HE SWEARS YAHWEH OF HOSTS BY SELF HIS THAT EXCEPT I WILL FILL YOU PERSON[S] LIKE <THE> LOCUST AND THEY WILL SING TO YOU A SHOUT 14The LORD of Hosts has sworn by Himself: “Surely I will fill you up with men as with locusts, and they will shout in triumph over you.”

He generates the lightning with the rain and brings forth the wind from His storehouses.

For his molten images are a fraud, and there is no breath in them.
18[ARE] FUTILITY THEY A WORK OF MOCKERY AT [THE] TIME OF PUNISHMENT THEIR THEY WILL PERISH 18They are worthless, a work to be mocked. In the time of their punishment they will perish.
19NOT [IS] LIKE THESE [THE] PORTION OF JACOB FOR [IS [THE] ONE WHO] FORMED <OF THE> EVERYTHING HE AND [THE] TRIBE OF INHERITANCE HIS [IS] YAHWEH OF HOSTS NAME HIS 19The Portion of Jacob is not like these, for He is the Maker of all things, and of the tribe of His inheritance— the LORD of Hosts is His name.
20[ARE] A WAR-CLUB YOU OF ME WEAPONS OF WAR AND I SMASH BY <THE> YOU NATIONS AND I DESTROY BY <THE> YOU KINGDOMS Babylon’s Punishment 20“You are My war club, My weapon for battle. With you I shatter nations; with you I bring kingdoms to ruin.
21AND I SMASH BY <THE> YOU HORSE AND RIDER ITS AND I SMASH BY <THE> YOU CHARIOTRY AND RIDER[S] ITS 21With you I shatter the horse and rider; with you I shatter the chariot and driver.

I will stretch out My hand against you; I will roll you over the cliffs and turn you into a charred mountain.
26AND NOT PEOPLE WILL TAKE FROM YOU STONE FOR A CORNER AND STONE FOR FOUNDATIONS FOR WASTES OF PERPETUITY YOU WILL BE [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH 26No one shall retrieve from you a cornerstone or a foundation stone, because you will become desolate forever,” declares the LORD.
27LIFT UP A STANDARD IN THE LAND BLOW A TRUMPET AMONG THE NATIONS CONSECRATE ON IT NATIONS SUMMON ON IT [THE] KINGDOMS OF ARARAT MINNI AND ASHKENAZ APPOINT ON IT AN OFFICIAL BRING UP HORSE[S] LIKE A LOCUST BRISTLY 27“Raise a banner in the land! Blow the ram’s horn among the nations! Prepare the nations against her. Summon the kingdoms against her— Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz. Appoint a captain against her; bring up horses like swarming locusts.
28CONSECRATE ON IT NATIONS <OBJ.> [THE] KINGS OF MEDIA <OBJ.> GOVERNORS ITS AND <OBJ.> ALL OFFICIALS ITS AND <OBJ.> ALL [THE] LAND OF DOMINION HIS 28Prepare the nations for battle against her— the kings of the Medes, their governors and all their officials, and all the lands they rule.
29AND IT QUAKED THE LAND AND IT WRITHED FOR IT WILL BE FULFILLED ON BABYLON [THE] PLANS OF YAHWEH TO MAKE <OBJ.> [THE] LAND OF BABYLON INTO A WASTE FROM NOT INHABITANT 29The earth quakes and writhes because the LORD’s intentions against Babylon stand: to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.
30THEY WILL CEASE [THE] WARRIORS OF BABYLON TO FIGHT THEY WILL REMAIN IN THE STRONGHOLDS IT WILL BE DRY STRENGTH THEIR THEY WILL BECOME <INTO> WOMEN THEY WILL BE SET ON FIRE DWELLINGS ITS THEY WILL BE BROKEN BARS ITS 30The warriors of Babylon have stopped fighting; they sit in their strongholds. Their strength is exhausted; they have become like women. Babylon’s homes have been set ablaze, the bars of her gates are broken.
31A RUNNER TO MEET A RUNNER HE WILL RUN AND A MESSENGER TO MEET A MESSENGER TO TELL TO [THE] KING OF BABYLON THAT IT HAS BEEN CAPTURED CITY HIS FROM [THE] END 31One courier races to meet another, and messenger follows messenger, to announce to the king of Babylon that his city has been captured from end to end.
32AND THE FORDS THEY HAVE BEEN SEIZED AND <OBJ.> THE REED-MARSHES THEY HAVE BURNED WITH <THE> FIRE AND [THE] MEN OF <THE> WAR THEY ARE TERRIFIED 32The fords have been seized, the marshes set on fire, and the soldiers are terrified.”
33FOR THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH OF HOSTS [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL [THE] DAUGHTER OF BABYLON [WILL BE] LIKE A THRESHING FLOOR A TIME [WHEN] SOMEONE TREADS DOWN IT YET A LITTLE AND IT WILL COME [THE] TIME OF THE HARVEST TO <THE> IT 33For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “The Daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time it is trampled. In just a little while her harvest time will come.”
34HE DEVOURED ME HE CONFUSED ME NEBUCHADNEZZAR [THE] KING OF BABYLON HE SET DOWN ME A VESSEL OF EMPTINESS HE SWALLOWED ME LIKE <THE> SEA MONSTER HE FILLED BELLY HIS FROM DELICACIES MY HE RINSED OUT ME 34“Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has devoured me; he has crushed me. He has set me aside like an empty vessel; he has swallowed me like a monster; he filled his belly with my delicacies and vomited me out.*NoteCloseOr expelled me
35VIOLENCE MY AND FLESH MY [BE] ON BABYLON SHE WILL SAY [THE] INHABITANT[S] OF ZION AND BLOOD MY [BE] TO [THE] INHABITANTS OF CHALDEA IT WILL SAY JERUSALEM 35May the violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon,” says the dweller of Zion. “May my blood be on the dwellers of Chaldea,” says Jerusalem.

38TOGETHER LIKE <THE> YOUNG LIONS THEY ROAR THEY GROWL LIKE CUBS OF LIONS 38They will roar together like young lions; they will growl like lion cubs.
39WHEN GETTING HEATED THEY I WILL MAKE <OBJ.> FEAST THEIR AND I WILL MAKE DRUNK THEM SO THAT THEY MAY CELEBRATE AND THEY WILL SLEEP A SLEEP OF PERPETUITY AND NOT THEY WILL AWAKE [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH 39While they are flushed with heat, I will serve them a feast, and I will make them drunk so that they may revel; then they will fall asleep forever and never wake up, declares the LORD.
40I WILL BRING DOWN THEM LIKE LAMBS TO SLAUGHTER LIKE RAMS WITH GOATS 40I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with male goats.
41HOW! IT WILL BE CAPTURED SHESHACH AND IT HAS BEEN SEIZED [THE] PRAISE OF ALL THE EARTH HOW! IT WILL BECOME <INTO> A HORROR BABYLON AMONG THE NATIONS 41How Sheshach*NoteCloseSheshach is a code name for Babylon. has been captured! The praise of all the earth has been seized. What a horror Babylon has become among the nations!
42IT WILL GO UP OVER BABYLON THE SEA WITH [THE] TUMULT OF WAVES ITS IT WILL BE COVERED 42The sea has come up over Babylon; she is covered in turbulent waves.
43THEY WILL BECOME CITIES ITS <INTO> A WASTE A LAND DRY AND A DESERT PLAIN A LAND [WHERE] NOT HE WILL DWELL IN <THE> THEM ANY PERSON AND NOT HE WILL PASS IN <THE> THEM A CHILD OF HUMANKIND 43Her cities have become a desolation, a dry and arid land, a land where no one lives, where no son of man passes through.
44AND I WILL VISIT [JUDGMENT] ON BEL IN BABYLON AND I WILL BRING OUT <OBJ.> SWALLOWED THING HIS FROM MOUTH HIS AND NOT THEY WILL STREAM TO HIM AGAIN NATIONS ALSO [THE] WALL OF BABYLON IT WILL FALL 44I will punish Bel in Babylon. I will make him spew out what he swallowed. The nations will no longer stream to him; even the wall of Babylon will fall.
45COME OUT FROM [THE] MIDST OF IT O PEOPLE MY AND SAVE EVERYONE <OBJ.> LIFE HIS FROM [THE] BURNING OF [THE] ANGER OF YAHWEH 45Come out of her, My people!*NoteCloseSee Revelation 18:4. Save your lives, each of you, from the fierce anger of the LORD.
46AND LEST IT SHOULD BE WEAK HEART YOUR SO YOU MAY FEAR AT THE REPORT WHICH IS BEING HEARD IN THE LAND AND IT WILL COME IN THE YEAR THE REPORT AND AFTER IT IN THE YEAR THE REPORT AND VIOLENCE [WILL BE] IN THE LAND AND RULER [WILL BE] ON RULER 46Do not let your heart grow faint, and do not be afraid when the rumor is heard in the land; for a rumor will come one year— and then another the next year— of violence in the land and of ruler against ruler.
47<TO> THEREFORE HERE! DAYS [ARE] COMING AND I WILL VISIT [JUDGMENT] ON [THE] IMAGES OF BABYLON AND ALL LAND ITS IT WILL BE ASHAMED AND ALL SLAIN [ONES] ITS THEY WILL FALL IN [THE] MIDST OF IT 47Therefore, behold, the days are coming when I will punish the idols of Babylon. Her entire land will suffer shame, and all her slain will lie fallen within her.
48AND THEY WILL CRY OUT FOR JOY ON BABYLON HEAVEN AND EARTH AND ALL THAT [IS] IN <THE> THEM FOR FROM [THE] NORTH HE WILL COME TO <THE> IT THE DESTROYERS [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH 48Then heaven and earth and all that is in them will shout for joy over Babylon because the destroyers from the north will come against her,” declares the LORD.
49BOTH BABYLON [IS] TO FALL [THOSE] SLAIN OF ISRAEL AS WELL AS FOR BABYLON THEY HAVE FALLEN [THOSE] SLAIN OF ALL THE EARTH 49Babylon must fall on account of the slain of Israel, just as the slain of all the earth have fallen because of Babylon.
50O ESCAPEES FROM [THE] SWORD GO MAY NOT YOU STAND STILL REMEMBER FROM A DISTANT [LAND] <OBJ.> YAHWEH AND JERUSALEM LET IT COME UP ON HEART YOUR 50You who have escaped the sword, depart and do not linger! Remember the LORD from far away, and let Jerusalem come to mind.”
51WE ARE ASHAMED FOR WE HAVE HEARD SCORN IT HAS COVERED IGNOMINY FACES OUR FOR THEY HAVE GONE STRANGERS TO [THE] HOLY PLACES OF [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH 51“We are ashamed because we have heard reproach; disgrace has covered our faces, because foreigners have entered the holy places of the LORD’s house.”
52<TO> THEREFORE HERE! DAYS [ARE] COMING [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH AND I WILL VISIT [JUDGMENT] ON IMAGES ITS AND IN ALL LAND ITS HE WILL GROAN [THE] FATALLY WOUNDED 52“Therefore, behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will punish her idols, and throughout her land the wounded will groan.
53IF IT WILL GO UP BABYLON THE HEAVENS AND IF IT WILL FORTIFY [THE] HEIGHT OF STRENGTH ITS FROM WITH <THE> ME THEY WILL COME DESTROYERS TO <THE> IT [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH 53Even if Babylon ascends to the heavens and fortifies her lofty stronghold, the destroyers I send will come against her,” declares the LORD.
54[THE] SOUND OF A CRY OF DISTRESS FROM BABYLON AND DESTRUCTION GREAT FROM [THE] LAND OF [THE] CHALDEANS 54“The sound of a cry comes from Babylon, the sound of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!
55FOR [IS] ABOUT TO DESTROY YAHWEH <OBJ.> BABYLON AND HE WILL DESTROY FROM IT A SOUND GREAT AND THEY WILL ROAR WAVES THEIR LIKE WATERS MANY IT WILL BE GIVEN [THE] UPROAR OF VOICE THEIR 55For the LORD will destroy Babylon; He will silence her mighty voice. The waves will roar like great waters; the tumult of their voices will resound.
56FOR [IS] ABOUT TO COME ON IT ON BABYLON A DESTROYER AND THEY WILL BE CAPTURED WARRIORS ITS IT WILL BE SHATTERED BOWS THEIR FOR [IS] A GOD OF RECOMPENSE<S> YAHWEH FULLY <REPAY> HE WILL REPAY 56For a destroyer is coming against her— against Babylon. Her warriors will be captured, and their bows will be broken, for the LORD is a God of retribution; He will repay in full.
57AND I WILL MAKE DRUNK OFFICIALS ITS AND WISE [PEOPLE] ITS GOVERNORS ITS AND OFFICIALS ITS AND WARRIORS ITS AND THEY WILL SLEEP A SLEEP OF PERPETUITY AND NOT THEY WILL AWAKE [THE] UTTERANCE OF THE KING [IS] YAHWEH OF HOSTS NAME HIS 57I will make her princes and wise men drunk, along with her governors, officials, and warriors. Then they will fall asleep forever and not wake up,” declares the King, whose name is the LORD of Hosts.
58THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH OF HOSTS [THE] WALLS OF BABYLON <THE> BROAD UTTERLY <DEMOLISH> IT WILL BE DEMOLISHED AND GATES ITS <THE> HIGH WITH <THE> FIRE THEY WILL BE KINDLED AND THEY MAY LABOR PEOPLES FOR [THE] SUFFICIENCY OF EMPTINESS AND PEOPLES FOR [THE] SUFFICIENCY OF FIRE AND THEY GROW WEARY 58This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Babylon’s thick walls will be leveled, and her high gates consumed by fire. So the labor of the people will be for nothing; the nations will exhaust themselves to fuel the flames.”
59THE WORD WHICH HE COMMANDED JEREMIAH THE PROPHET <OBJ.> SERAIAH [THE] SON OF NERIAH [THE] SON OF MAHSEIAH WHEN WENT HE WITH ZEDEKIAH [THE] KING OF JUDAH BABYLON IN [THE] YEAR <THE> FOURTH OF REIGNING HIS AND SERAIAH [WAS] AN OFFICIAL OF A RESTING PLACE Jeremiah’s Message to Seraiah 59This is the message that Jeremiah the prophet gave to the quartermaster Seraiah son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went to Babylon with King Zedekiah of Judah in the fourth year of Zedekiah’s reign.
60AND HE WROTE JEREMIAH <OBJ.> ALL THE CALAMITY WHICH IT WILL COME TO BABYLON TO A SCROLL ONE <OBJ.> ALL THE WORDS <THE> THESE WHICH WERE WRITTEN CONCERNING BABYLON 60Jeremiah had written on a single scroll about all the disaster that would come upon Babylon— all these words that had been written concerning Babylon.
61AND HE SAID JEREMIAH TO SERAIAH WHEN COMING YOU BABYLON AND YOU WILL SEE AND YOU WILL READ ALOUD <OBJ.> ALL THE WORDS <THE> THESE 61And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, “When you get to Babylon, see that you read all these words aloud
62AND YOU WILL SAY O YAHWEH YOU YOU HAVE SPOKEN CONCERNING THE PLACE <THE> THIS TO CUT OFF IT TO NOT TO BE IN <THE> IT AN INHABITANT <TO> FROM HUMANKIND AND UNTO ANIMAL FOR DESOLATIONS OF PERPETUITY IT WILL BE 62and say, ‘O LORD, You have promised to cut off this place so that no one will remain— neither man nor beast. Indeed, it will be desolate forever.’
63AND IT WILL BE WHEN FINISHING YOU TO READ ALOUD <OBJ.> THE SCROLL <THE> THIS YOU WILL TIE ON IT A STONE AND YOU WILL THROW IT INTO [THE] MIDDLE OF [THE] EUPHRATES 63When you finish reading this scroll, tie a stone to it and cast it into the Euphrates.
64AND YOU WILL SAY THUS IT WILL SINK BABYLON AND NOT IT WILL RISE <FROM> BECAUSE OF THE CALAMITY WHICH I [AM] ABOUT TO BRING ON IT AND THEY WILL GROW WEARY [ARE] TO HERE [THE] WORDS OF JEREMIAH 64Then you are to say, ‘In the same way Babylon will sink and never rise again, because of the disaster I will bring upon her. And her people will grow weary.’” Here end the words of Jeremiah.
