24AND IT WENT OUT FIRE FROM TO BEFORE YAHWEH AND IT CONSUMED ON THE ALTAR <OBJ.> THE BURNT OFFERING AND <OBJ.> THE FAT<S> AND IT SAW ALL THE PEOPLE AND THEY SHOUTED AND THEY FELL ON FACES THEIR 24Fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And when all the people saw it, they shouted for joy and fell facedown.
1AND THEY TOOK [THE] SONS OF AARON NADAB AND ABIHU EACH CENSER HIS AND THEY PUT IN <THE> THEM FIRE AND THEY PLACED ON IT INCENSE AND THEY PRESENTED <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH FIRE STRANGE WHICH NOT HE HAD COMMANDED <OBJ.> THEM The Sin of Nadab and Abihu (Numbers 3:1–4) 1Now Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense and offered unauthorized*NoteCloseOr strange fire before the LORD, contrary to His command.
2AND IT WENT OUT FIRE FROM TO BEFORE YAHWEH AND IT CONSUMED <OBJ.> THEM AND THEY DIED <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH 2So fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died in the presence of the LORD.
3AND HE SAID MOSES TO AARON IT [IS THAT] WHICH HE SPOKE YAHWEH <TO> SAYING IN MIDST MY I WILL SHOW MYSELF HOLY AND ON [THE] FACE OF ALL THE PEOPLE I WILL GAIN GLORY AND HE WAS SILENT AARON 3Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the LORD meant when He said: ‘To those who come near Me I will show My holiness, and in the sight of all the people I will reveal My glory.’” But Aaron remained silent.
4AND HE SUMMONED MOSES <TO> MISHAEL AND <TO> ELZAPHAN [THE] SONS OF UZZIEL [THE] UNCLE OF AARON AND HE SAID TO THEM DRAW NEAR CARRY <OBJ.> RELATIVES YOUR FROM WITH [THE] FACE OF THE HOLY PLACE TO FROM [THE] OUTSIDE OF THE CAMP 4Moses summoned Mishael and Elzaphan,*NoteCloseElzaphan is a variant of Elizaphan; see Numbers 3:30. sons of Aaron’s uncle Uzziel, and said to them, “Come here; carry the bodies of your cousins outside the camp, away from the front of the sanctuary
5AND THEY DREW NEAR AND THEY CARRIED THEM IN TUNICS THEIR TO FROM [THE] OUTSIDE OF THE CAMP JUST AS HE HAD SPOKEN MOSES 5So they came forward and carried them, still in their tunics, outside the camp, as Moses had directed.
6AND HE SAID MOSES TO AARON AND TO ELEAZAR AND TO ITHAMAR SONS HIS HEADS YOUR MAY NOT YOU LET LOOSE AND GARMENTS YOUR NOT YOU MUST TEAR AND NOT YOU WILL DIE AND TOWARDS ALL THE CONGREGATION HE WILL BE ANGRY AND RELATIVES YOUR ALL [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL THEY WILL WEEP FOR <OBJ.> THE BURNING WHICH HE HAS BURNED YAHWEH 6Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, “Do not let your hair become disheveled*NoteCloseOr Do not uncover your heads and do not tear your garments, or else you will die, and the LORD will be angry with the whole congregation. But your brothers, the whole house of Israel, may mourn on account of the fire that the LORD has ignited.
7AND FROM [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] TENT OF MEETING NOT YOU MUST GO OUT LEST YOU SHOULD DIE FOR [THE] OIL OF [THE] ANOINTING OF YAHWEH [IS] ON YOU AND THEY DID ACCORDING TO [THE] WORD OF MOSES 7You shall not go outside the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, or you will die, for the LORD’s anointing oil is on you.” So they did as Moses instructed.
9WINE AND STRONG DRINK MAY NOT YOU DRINK YOU AND SONS YOUR WITH YOU WHEN GO YOU INTO [THE] TENT OF MEETING AND NOT YOU WILL DIE A STATUTE OF PERPETUITY TO GENERATIONS YOUR 9“You and your sons are not to drink wine or strong drink when you enter the Tent of Meeting, or else you will die; this is a permanent statute for the generations to come.
10AND TO SEPARATE BETWEEN THE HOLY THING AND BETWEEN THE PROFANE THING AND BETWEEN THE UNCLEAN [THING] AND BETWEEN THE CLEAN [THING] 10You must distinguish between the holy and the common, between the clean and the unclean,
11AND TO TEACH <OBJ.> [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL <OBJ.> ALL THE STATUTES WHICH HE HAS SPOKEN YAHWEH TO THEM BY [THE] HAND OF MOSES 11so that you may teach the Israelites all the statutes that the LORD has given them through Moses.”
12AND HE SPOKE MOSES TO AARON AND TO ELEAZAR AND TO ITHAMAR SONS HIS WHO REMAINED TAKE <OBJ.> THE GRAIN OFFERING WHICH REMAINS OF [THE] FIRE OFFERINGS OF YAHWEH AND EAT IT UNLEAVENED BREAD<S> BESIDE THE ALTAR FOR [IS] A HOLY THING OF HOLY THINGS IT 12And Moses said to Aaron and his remaining sons, Eleazar and Ithamar, “Take the grain offering that remains from the food offerings to the LORD and eat it without leaven beside the altar, because it is most holy.
13AND YOU WILL EAT <OBJ.> IT IN A PLACE HOLY FOR [IS] PRESCRIBED PORTION YOUR AND [THE] PRESCRIBED PORTION OF SONS YOUR IT FROM [THE] FIRE OFFERINGS OF YAHWEH FOR THUS I HAVE BEEN COMMANDED 13You shall eat it in a holy place, because it is your share and your sons’ share of the food offerings to the LORD; for this is what I have been commanded.
14AND <OBJ.> [THE] BREAST OF THE WAVE-OFFERING AND <OBJ.> [THE] THIGH OF THE CONTRIBUTION YOU WILL EAT IN A PLACE PURE YOU AND SONS YOUR AND DAUGHTERS YOUR WITH YOU FOR PRESCRIBED PORTION YOUR AND [THE] PRESCRIBED PORTION OF CHILDREN YOUR THEY HAVE BEEN GIVEN FROM [THE] SACRIFICES OF [THE] PEACE OFFERINGS OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL 14And you and your sons and daughters may eat the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution in a ceremonially clean place, because these portions have been assigned to you and your children from the peace offerings of the sons of Israel.
15[THE] THIGH OF THE CONTRIBUTION AND [THE] BREAST OF THE WAVE-OFFERING WITH [THE] FIRE OFFERINGS OF <THE> FAT<S> THEY WILL BRING TO WAVE A WAVE-OFFERING <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH AND IT WILL BELONG TO YOU AND TO SONS YOUR WITH YOU TO A PRESCRIBED PORTION OF PERPETUITY JUST AS HE HAS COMMANDED YAHWEH 15They are to bring the thigh of the contribution and the breast of the wave offering, together with the fat portions of the food offerings, to wave as a wave offering before the LORD. It will belong permanently to you and your children, as the LORD has commanded.”
16AND <OBJ.> [THE] MALE GOAT OF THE SIN OFFERING CAREFULLY <TO SEEK> HE SOUGHT MOSES AND THERE! IT HAD BEEN BURNED AND HE WAS ANGRY TOWARDS ELEAZAR AND TOWARDS ITHAMAR [THE] SONS OF AARON <THE> REMAINING <TO> SAYING 16Later, Moses searched carefully for the goat of the sin offering, and behold, it had been burned up. He was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s remaining sons, and asked,
17WHY? NOT DID YOU EAT <OBJ.> THE SIN OFFERING IN [THE] PLACE OF <THE> HOLINESS FOR [IS] A HOLY THING OF HOLY THINGS IT AND <OBJ.> IT HE GAVE TO <THE> YOU TO BEAR <OBJ.> [THE] INIQUITY OF THE CONGREGATION TO MAKE ATONEMENT ON THEM <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH 17“Why didn’t you eat the sin offering in the holy place? For it is most holy; it was given to you to take away the guilt of the congregation by making atonement for them before the LORD.
18HERE! NOT IT WAS BROUGHT <OBJ.> BLOOD ITS INTO THE HOLY PLACE WITHIN CERTAINLY <TO EAT> YOU WILL EAT <OBJ.> IT IN THE HOLY PLACE JUST AS I COMMANDED 18Since its blood was not brought inside the holy place, you should have eaten it in the sanctuary area, as I commanded.”
19AND HE SPOKE AARON TO MOSES HERE! THIS DAY THEY HAVE PRESENTED <OBJ.> SIN OFFERING THEIR AND <OBJ.> BURNT OFFERING THEIR <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH AND THEY HAVE HAPPENED TO <OBJ.> ME LIKE THESE [THINGS] AND I WILL EAT A SIN OFFERING THIS DAY ¿ WILL IT BE GOOD IN [THE] EYES OF YAHWEH 19But Aaron replied to Moses, “Behold, this very day they presented their sin offering and their burnt offering before the LORD. Since these things have happened to me, if I had eaten the sin offering today, would it have been acceptable in the sight of the LORD?”
20AND HE HEARD MOSES AND IT WAS GOOD IN VIEW HIS 20And when Moses heard this explanation, he was satisfied.
