17A STATUTE OF PERPETUITY TO GENERATIONS YOUR IN ALL DWELLING PLACES YOUR ANY FAT AND ANY BLOOD NOT YOU MUST EAT 17This is a permanent statute for the generations to come, wherever you live: You must not eat any fat or any blood.”
1AND HE SPOKE YAHWEH TO MOSES <TO> SAYING Laws for Sin Offerings (Leviticus 5:1–13; Leviticus 6:24–30) 1Then the LORD said to Moses,
2SPEAK TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL <TO> SAYING ANYONE THAT IT WILL SIN BY INADVERTENCE ANY OF ALL [THE] COMMANDMENTS OF YAHWEH WHICH NOT THEY WILL BE DONE AND HE WILL DO ANY ONE OF THEM 2“Tell the Israelites to do as follows with one who sins unintentionally against any of the LORD’s commandments and does what is forbidden by them:
3IF THE PRIEST <THE> ANOINTED HE WILL SIN TO [THE] GUILT OF THE PEOPLE AND HE WILL PRESENT ON SIN HIS WHICH HE SINNED A BULL A YOUNG ONE OF [THE] HERD UNBLEMISHED TO YAHWEH TO A SIN OFFERING 3If the anointed priest sins, bringing guilt on the people, he must bring to the LORD a young bull without blemish as a sin offering*NoteCloseOr purification offering; here and throughout Leviticus for the sin he has committed.
4AND HE WILL BRING <OBJ.> THE BULL TO [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] TENT OF MEETING <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH AND HE WILL LEAN <OBJ.> HAND HIS ON [THE] HEAD OF THE BULL AND HE WILL CUT [THE] THROAT OF <OBJ.> THE BULL <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH 4He must bring the bull to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting before the LORD, lay his hand on the bull’s head, and slaughter it before the LORD.
5AND HE WILL TAKE THE PRIEST <THE> ANOINTED SOME OF [THE] BLOOD OF THE BULL AND HE WILL BRING <OBJ.> IT INTO [THE] TENT OF MEETING 5Then the anointed priest shall take some of the bull’s blood and bring it into the Tent of Meeting.
6AND HE WILL DIP THE PRIEST <OBJ.> FINGER HIS IN THE BLOOD AND HE WILL SPATTER SOME OF THE BLOOD SEVEN TIMES <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH WITH [THE] FACE OF [THE] CURTAIN OF THE HOLY PLACE 6The priest is to dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle some of it seven times before the LORD, in front of the veil of the sanctuary.
7AND HE WILL PUT THE PRIEST SOME OF THE BLOOD ON [THE] HORNS OF [THE] ALTAR OF [THE] INCENSE OF THE PERFUME<S> <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH WHICH [IS] IN [THE] TENT OF MEETING AND <OBJ.> ALL [THE] BLOOD OF THE BULL HE WILL POUR OUT TO [THE] BASE OF [THE] ALTAR OF <THE> BURNT OFFERING WHICH [IS] [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] TENT OF MEETING 7The priest must then put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of fragrant incense that is before the LORD in the Tent of Meeting. And he is to pour out the rest of the bull’s blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
8AND <OBJ.> ALL [THE] FAT OF [THE] BULL OF THE SIN OFFERING HE WILL LIFT UP FROM IT <OBJ.> THE FAT WHICH COVERS OVER THE ENTRAILS AND <OBJ.> ALL THE FAT WHICH [IS] ON THE ENTRAILS 8Then he shall remove all the fat from the bull of the sin offering— the fat that covers the entrails, all the fat that is on them,
9AND <OBJ.> [THE] TWO THE KIDNEYS AND <OBJ.> THE FAT WHICH [IS] ON THEM WHICH [IS] ON THE LOINS AND <OBJ.> THE LOBE ON THE LIVER ON THE KIDNEYS HE WILL REMOVE IT 9both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the lobe of the liver, which he is to remove with the kidneys—
10JUST AS IT IS LIFTED UP FROM [THE] OX OF [THE] SACRIFICE OF THE PEACE OFFERING<S> AND HE WILL MAKE SMOKE THEM THE PRIEST ON [THE] ALTAR OF <THE> BURNT OFFERING 10just as the fat is removed from the ox of the peace offering. Then the priest shall burn them on the altar of burnt offering.
11AND <OBJ.> [THE] HIDE OF THE BULL AND <OBJ.> ALL FLESH ITS WITH HEAD ITS AND WITH LEGS ITS AND ENTRAILS ITS AND OFFAL ITS 11But the hide of the bull and all its flesh, with its head and legs and its entrails and dung—
12AND HE WILL BRING OUT <OBJ.> ALL THE BULL TO FROM [THE] OUTSIDE OF THE CAMP TO A PLACE PURE TO [THE] POURING OUT OF THE FATTY ASH AND HE WILL BURN <OBJ.> IT ON WOOD<S> WITH <THE> FIRE AT [THE] POURING OUT OF THE FATTY ASH IT WILL BE BURNED 12all the rest of the bull— he must take outside the camp to a ceremonially clean place where the ashes are poured out, and there he must burn it on a wood fire on the ash heap.
13AND IF ALL [THE] CONGREGATION OF ISRAEL THEY WILL GO ASTRAY AND IT WILL BE HIDDEN [THE] MATTER FROM [THE] EYES OF THE ASSEMBLY AND THEY WILL DO ONE OF ALL [THE] COMMANDMENTS OF YAHWEH WHICH NOT THEY WILL BE DONE AND THEY WILL BE GUILTY 13Now if the whole congregation of Israel strays unintentionally and the matter escapes the notice of the assembly so that they violate any of the LORD’s commandments and incur guilt by doing what is forbidden,
14AND IT WILL BE MADE KNOWN THE SIN WHICH THEY HAVE SINNED ON IT AND THEY WILL PRESENT THE ASSEMBLY A BULL A YOUNG ONE OF [THE] HERD TO A SIN OFFERING AND THEY WILL BRING <OBJ.> IT <TO> BEFORE [THE] TENT OF MEETING 14when they become aware of the sin they have committed, then the assembly must bring a young bull as a sin offering and present it before the Tent of Meeting.
15AND THEY WILL LEAN [THE] ELDERS OF THE CONGREGATION <OBJ.> HANDS THEIR ON [THE] HEAD OF THE BULL <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH AND SOMEONE WILL CUT [THE] THROAT OF <OBJ.> THE BULL <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH 15The elders of the congregation are to lay their hands on the bull’s head before the LORD, and it shall be slaughtered before the LORD.
16AND HE WILL BRING THE PRIEST <THE> ANOINTED SOME OF [THE] BLOOD OF THE BULL INTO [THE] TENT OF MEETING 16Then the anointed priest is to bring some of the bull’s blood into the Tent of Meeting,
17AND HE WILL DIP THE PRIEST FINGER HIS SOME OF THE BLOOD AND HE WILL SPATTER [IT] SEVEN TIMES <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH WITH [THE] FACE OF THE CURTAIN 17and he is to dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it seven times before the LORD in front of the veil.
18AND SOME OF THE BLOOD HE WILL PUT ON [THE] HORNS OF THE ALTAR WHICH [IS] <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH WHICH [IS] IN [THE] TENT OF MEETING AND <OBJ.> ALL THE BLOOD HE WILL POUR OUT TO [THE] BASE OF [THE] ALTAR OF <THE> BURNT OFFERING WHICH [IS] [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] TENT OF MEETING 18He is also to put some of the blood on the horns of the altar that is before the LORD in the Tent of Meeting, and he must pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
19AND <OBJ.> ALL FAT ITS HE WILL LIFT UP FROM IT AND HE WILL MAKE [IT] SMOKE THE ALTAR TOWARDS 19And he is to remove all the fat from it and burn it on the altar.
20AND HE WILL DO TO THE BULL JUST AS HE DID TO [THE] BULL OF THE SIN OFFERING SO HE WILL DO TO <THE> IT AND HE WILL MAKE ATONEMENT ON THEM THE PRIEST AND IT WILL BE FORGIVEN TO <THE> THEM 20He shall offer this bull just as he did the bull for the sin offering in this way the priest will make atonement on their behalf, and they will be forgiven.
21AND HE WILL BRING OUT <OBJ.> THE BULL TO FROM [THE] OUTSIDE OF THE CAMP AND HE WILL BURN <OBJ.> IT JUST AS HE BURNED <OBJ.> THE BULL <THE> FIRST [IS] [THE] SIN OFFERING OF THE ASSEMBLY IT 21Then he is to take the bull outside the camp and burn it, just as he burned the first bull. It is the sin offering for the assembly.
22THAT A LEADER HE WILL SIN AND HE WILL DO ONE OF ALL [THE] COMMANDMENTS OF YAHWEH GOD HIS WHICH NOT THEY WILL BE DONE BY INADVERTENCE AND HE WILL BE GUILTY 22When a leader sins unintentionally and does what is prohibited by any of the commandments of the LORD his God, he incurs guilt.
23OR IT HAS BEEN MADE KNOWN TO HIM SIN HIS WHICH HE HAS SINNED BY <THE> IT AND HE WILL BRING <OBJ.> PRESENT HIS A MALE GOAT OF GOATS A MALE UNBLEMISHED 23When he becomes aware of the sin he has committed he must bring an unblemished male goat as his offering.
24AND HE WILL LEAN HAND HIS ON [THE] HEAD OF THE MALE GOAT AND HE WILL CUT [THE] THROAT OF <OBJ.> IT IN [THE] PLACE <OF> WHERE SOMEONE CUTS [THE] THROAT OF <OBJ.> THE BURNT OFFERING <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH [IS] A SIN OFFERING IT 24He is to lay his hand on the head of the goat and slaughter it at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered before the LORD. It is a sin offering.
25AND HE WILL TAKE THE PRIEST SOME OF [THE] BLOOD OF THE SIN OFFERING ON FINGER HIS AND HE WILL PUT [IT] ON [THE] HORNS OF [THE] ALTAR OF <THE> BURNT OFFERING AND <OBJ.> BLOOD ITS HE WILL POUR OUT TO [THE] BASE OF [THE] ALTAR OF <THE> BURNT OFFERING 25Then the priest is to take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.
26AND <OBJ.> ALL FAT ITS HE WILL MAKE SMOKE THE ALTAR TOWARDS LIKE [THE] FAT OF [THE] SACRIFICE OF THE PEACE OFFERING<S> AND HE WILL MAKE ATONEMENT ON HIM THE PRIEST FROM SIN HIS AND IT WILL BE FORGIVEN TO <THE> HIM 26He must burn all its fat on the altar, like the fat of the peace offerings; thus the priest will make atonement for that man’s sin, and he will be forgiven
27AND IF A PERSON ONE IT WILL SIN BY INADVERTENCE ONE OF [THE] PEOPLE OF THE LAND WHEN DOES IT ONE OF [THE] COMMANDMENTS OF YAHWEH WHICH NOT THEY WILL BE DONE AND HE WILL BE GUILTY 27And if one of the common people sins unintentionally and does what is prohibited by any of the LORD’s commandments, he incurs guilt.
28OR IT HAS BEEN MADE KNOWN TO HIM SIN HIS WHICH HE HAS SINNED AND HE WILL BRING PRESENT HIS A FEMALE GOAT OF GOATS UNBLEMISHED A FEMALE ON SIN HIS WHICH HE HAS SINNED 28When he becomes aware of the sin he has committed, he must bring an unblemished female goat as his offering for that sin.
29AND HE WILL LEAN <OBJ.> HAND HIS ON [THE] HEAD OF THE SIN OFFERING AND HE WILL CUT [THE] THROAT OF <OBJ.> THE SIN OFFERING IN [THE] PLACE OF THE BURNT OFFERING 29He is to lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it at the place of the burnt offering.
30AND HE WILL TAKE THE PRIEST SOME OF BLOOD ITS ON FINGER HIS AND HE WILL PUT [IT] ON [THE] HORNS OF [THE] ALTAR OF <THE> BURNT OFFERING AND <OBJ.> ALL BLOOD ITS HE WILL POUR OUT TO [THE] BASE OF THE ALTAR 30Then the priest is to take some of its blood with his finger, put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.
31AND <OBJ.> ALL FAT ITS HE WILL REMOVE JUST AS IT WAS REMOVED [THE] FAT FROM ON [THE] SACRIFICE OF THE PEACE OFFERING<S> AND HE WILL MAKE [IT] SMOKE THE PRIEST THE ALTAR TOWARDS TO AN ODOR OF SOOTHING TO YAHWEH AND HE WILL MAKE ATONEMENT ON HIM THE PRIEST AND IT WILL BE FORGIVEN TO <THE> HIM 31Then he is to remove all the fat, just as it is removed from the peace offering, and the priest is to burn it on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the LORD. In this way the priest will make atonement for him, and he will be forgiven
32AND IF A MALE LAMB HE WILL BRING PRESENT HIS TO A SIN OFFERING A FEMALE UNBLEMISHED HE WILL BRING IT 32If, however, he brings a lamb as a sin offering, he must bring an unblemished female.
33AND HE WILL LEAN <OBJ.> HAND HIS ON [THE] HEAD OF THE SIN OFFERING AND HE WILL CUT [THE] THROAT OF <OBJ.> IT TO A SIN OFFERING IN [THE] PLACE <OF> WHERE SOMEONE CUTS [THE] THROAT OF <OBJ.> THE BURNT OFFERING 33And he is to lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it as a sin offering at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered.
34AND HE WILL TAKE THE PRIEST SOME OF [THE] BLOOD OF THE SIN OFFERING ON FINGER HIS AND HE WILL PUT [IT] ON [THE] HORNS OF [THE] ALTAR OF <THE> BURNT OFFERING AND <OBJ.> ALL BLOOD ITS HE WILL POUR OUT TO [THE] BASE OF THE ALTAR 34Then the priest is to take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and pour out the rest of its blood at the base of the altar.
35AND <OBJ.> ALL FAT ITS HE WILL REMOVE JUST AS IT IS REMOVED [THE] FAT OF THE YOUNG RAM FROM [THE] SACRIFICE OF THE PEACE OFFERING<S> AND HE WILL MAKE SMOKE THE PRIEST <OBJ.> THEM THE ALTAR TOWARDS ON [THE] FIRE OFFERINGS OF YAHWEH AND HE WILL MAKE ATONEMENT ON HIM THE PRIEST ON SIN HIS WHICH HE HAS SINNED AND IT WILL BE FORGIVEN TO <THE> HIM 35And he shall remove all the fat, just as the fat of the lamb is removed from the peace offerings, and he shall burn it on the altar along with the food offerings to the LORD. In this way the priest will make atonement for him for the sin he has committed, and he will be forgiven
