25THERE ARE NOW ALSO OTHER THINGS MANY THAT DID <THE> JESUS WHICH IF THEY SHALL BE WRITTEN EVERY ONE, NOT EVEN ITSELF I SUPPOSE THE WORLD TO HAVE SPACE FOR THE TO BE WRITTEN BOOKS. AMEN 25There are many more things that Jesus did. If all of them were written down, I suppose that not even the world itself would have space for the books that would be written.
1THE INDEED FIRST ACCOUNT I COMPOSED CONCERNING ALL THE THINGS, O THEOPHILUS, OF WHICH BEGAN <THE> JESUS TO DO BOTH AND TO TEACH Prologue (Luke 1:1–4) 1In my first book, O Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach,
2UNTIL THE DAY HAVING GIVEN ORDERS TO THE APOSTLES THROUGH [THE] SPIRIT HOLY WHOM HE HAD CHOSEN HE WAS TAKEN UP. 2until the day He was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles He had chosen.
3TO THOSE ALSO HE PRESENTED HIMSELF ALIVE AFTER THE SUFFERING OF HIM WITH MANY PROOFS, DURING DAYS FORTY APPEARING TO THEM AND SPEAKING THE [THINGS] CONCERNING THE KINGDOM <THE> OF GOD. 3After His suffering, He presented Himself to them with many convincing proofs that He was alive. He appeared to them over a span of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.
4AND BEING ASSEMBLED TOGETHER HE INSTRUCTED TO THEM FROM JERUSALEM NOT TO DEPART, BUT TO AWAIT THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER THAT WHICH YOU HEARD OF ME; 4And while they were gathered together,*NoteCloseOr eating together He commanded them: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift the Father promised, which you have heard Me discuss.
5FOR JOHN INDEED BAPTIZED WITH WATER, YOU YOURSELVES HOWEVER WITH [THE] SPIRIT WILL BE BAPTIZED HOLY NOT AFTER MANY THESE DAYS. 5For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.*NoteCloseOr For John baptized in water, but in a few days you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit; cited in Acts 11:16 ”
6THOSE INDEED THEREFORE HAVING COME TOGETHER WERE ASKING HIM SAYING; LORD, IF AT <THE> TIME THIS ARE YOU RESTORING THE KINGDOM <THE> TO ISRAEL? The Ascension (Mark 16:19–20; Luke 24:50–53) 6So when they came together, they asked Him “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel? ”
7HE SAID THEN TO THEM; NOT YOURS IT IS TO KNOW TIMES OR SEASONS WHICH THE FATHER PUT IN PLACE BY <THE> HIS OWN AUTHORITY, 7Jesus replied, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by His own authority.
8BUT YOU WILL RECEIVE POWER WHEN WAS COMING THE HOLY SPIRIT UPON YOU AND YOU WILL BE MY WITNESSES IN BOTH JERUSALEM AND IN ALL <THE> JUDEA AND SAMARIA AND UNTIL [THE] UTTERMOST PART OF THE EARTH. 8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. ”
9AND THESE THINGS HAVING SAID WHEN ARE LOOKING THEY HE WAS TAKEN UP AND A CLOUD HID HIM FROM THE EYES OF THEM. 9After He had said this, they watched as He was taken up, and a cloud hid Him from their sight.
10AND AS LOOKING INTENTLY THEY WERE INTO THE HEAVEN AS IS GOING HE, THEN BEHOLD MEN TWO HAD STOOD BY THEM IN GARMENTS WHITE, 10They were looking intently into the sky as He was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them.
11WHO ALSO SAID; MEN GALILEANS, WHY HAVE YOU STOOD LOOKING INTO <THE> HEAVEN? THIS <THE> JESUS WHO HAVING BEEN TAKEN UP FROM YOU INTO <THE> HEAVEN THUS WILL COME IN THAT MANNER YOU BEHELD HIM GOING INTO <THE> HEAVEN. 11“Men of Galilee, ” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven. ”
12THEN THEY RETURNED TO JERUSALEM FROM [THE] MOUNT WHICH IS BEING CALLED OLIVET, WHICH IS NEAR JERUSALEM A SABBATH DAY’S HOLDING JOURNEY. Matthias Replaces Judas 12Then they returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, which is near the city, a Sabbath day’s journey away.*NoteCloseA Sabbath day’s journey is 2,000 cubits (approximately 3,000 feet or 914.4 meters)
13AND WHEN THEY HAD ENTERED INTO THE UPPER ROOM THEY WENT UP WHERE THEY WERE STAYING, <THE> BOTH PETER AND JOHN AND JAMES AND ANDREW, PHILIP AND THOMAS, BARTHOLOMEW AND MATTHEW, JAMES [SON] OF ALPHAEUS AND SIMON THE ZEALOT AND JUDAS [SON] OF JAMES. 13When they arrived, they went to the upper room where they were staying: Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.
14THESE ALL WERE STEADFASTLY CONTINUING WITH ONE ACCORD <THE> IN PRAYER AND <THE> IN SUPPLICATION WITH THE [THE] WOMEN AND MARY WITH THE MOTHER <THE> OF JESUS AND WITH THE BROTHERS OF HIM. 14With one accord they all continued in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.
15AND IN <THE> DAYS THESE HAVING STOOD UP PETER IN [THE] MIDST OF THE BROTHERS HE SAID — WAS THEN [THE] NUMBER OF NAMES TOGETHER THE SAME ABOUT A HUNDRED TWENTY — 15In those days Peter stood up among the brothers a gathering of about a hundred and twenty and said,
16MEN BROTHERS, IT WAS NECESSARY FOR TO HAVE BEEN FULFILLED <THE> SCRIPTURE THIS WHICH FORETOLD THE SPIRIT <THE> HOLY THROUGH [THE] MOUTH OF DAVID CONCERNING JUDAS THE [ONE] HAVING BECOME GUIDE TO THOSE HAVING ARRESTED <THE> JESUS; 16Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit foretold through the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide for those who arrested Jesus.
17FOR NUMBERED HE WAS AMONG US AND WAS ALLOTTED THE SHARE OF THE MINISTRY THIS. 17He was one of our number and shared in this ministry. ”
18THIS [MAN] INDEED THEN ACQUIRED A FIELD OUT OF THE REWARD <THE> OF UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, AND HEADLONG HAVING FALLEN HE BURST OPEN IN [THE] MIDDLE AND GUSHED OUT ALL THE INTESTINES OF HIM, 18(Now with the reward for his wickedness Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong and burst open in the middle, and all his intestines spilled out.
19AND KNOWN IT BECAME TO ALL THOSE DWELLING IN JERUSALEM, SO THAT TO CALL THE FIELD THAT [ONE] <THE> IN [THEIR] OWN LANGUAGE OF THEM AKELDAMA THAT IS FIELD OF BLOOD. 19This became known to all who lived in Jerusalem, so they called that field in their own language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)
20IT HAS BEEN WRITTEN FOR IN [THE] BOOK OF PSALMS: SHOULD BECOME THE HOMESTEAD OF HIM DESOLATE AND NOT SHOULD THERE BE [ONE] WHO IS DWELLING IN IT,’ AND THE POSITION OF HIM TAKE ANOTHER.’ 20“For it is written in the book of Psalms: ‘May his place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in it,’*NoteClosePsalm 69:25 and, ‘May another take his position.’*NoteClosePsalm 109:8
21IT BEHOOVES THEREFORE OF THOSE [WHO] WERE ACCOMPANYING US MEN DURING ALL [THE] TIME IN THAT HE CAME IN AND HE WENT OUT AMONG US THE LORD JESUS, 21Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have accompanied us the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
22HAVING BEGUN FROM THE BAPTISM OF JOHN UNTIL THE DAY IN WHICH HE WAS TAKEN UP FROM US, A WITNESS OF THE RESURRECTION OF HIM WITH US TO BECOME ONE OF THESE. 22beginning from John’s baptism until the day Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection. ”
23AND THEY PUT FORWARD TWO, JOSEPH WHO IS BEING CALLED BARSABBAS WHO WAS CALLED JUSTUS AND MATTHIAS. 23So they proposed two men: Joseph called Barsabbas also known as Justus) and Matthias.
24AND HAVING PRAYED THEY SAID; YOU YOURSELF LORD KNOWER OF THE HEARTS OF ALL, DO SHOW WHOM YOU HAVE CHOSEN OF THESE <THE> TWO ONE 24And they prayed “Lord, You know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two You have chosen
25TO TAKE THE PLACE OF THE MINISTRY THIS AND APOSTLESHIP FROM WHICH TURNED ASIDE JUDAS TO GO TO THE PLACE <THE> [HIS] OWN. 25to take up this ministry and apostleship, which Judas abandoned to go to his rightful place. ”
26AND THEY GAVE LOTS TO THEM AND FELL THE LOT ON MATTHIAS AND HE WAS NUMBERED WITH THE ELEVEN APOSTLES. 26Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias. So he was added to the eleven apostles.
