18IN THAT FOR HAS SUFFERED HE HIMSELF HAVING BEEN TEMPTED, HE IS ABLE THOSE BEING TEMPTED TO HELP. 18Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.
1THEREFORE, BROTHERS HOLY, OF [THE] CALLING HEAVENLY PARTAKERS, DO CAREFULLY CONSIDER THE APOSTLE AND HIGH PRIEST OF THE CONFESSION OF US CHRIST JESUS Jesus Our Apostle and High Priest 1Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, set your focus on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.
2FAITHFUL BEING TO THE [ONE] HAVING APPOINTED HIM AS ALSO MOSES IN ALL THE HOUSE OF HIM. 2He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.*NoteCloseLiterally just as Moses in all His house; SBL just as Moses in His house
3OF GREATER FOR HE GLORY THAN MOSES HAS BEEN COUNTED WORTHY, BY SO MUCH AS GREATER HONOR HAS THAN THE HOUSE [ITSELF] THE [ONE] HAVING BUILT IT; 3For Jesus has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.
4EVERY FOR HOUSE IS BUILT BY SOMEONE, THE [ONE] HOWEVER <THE> EVERYTHING HAVING BUILT [IS] GOD. 4And every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.
5AND MOSES INDEED [WAS] FAITHFUL IN ALL THE HOUSE OF HIM AS A SERVANT UNTO A TESTIMONY OF THE [THINGS] TO BE SPOKEN, 5Now Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,*NoteCloseNumbers 12:7 testifying to what would be spoken later.
6CHRIST HOWEVER AS [THE] SON OVER THE HOUSE OF HIM, WHOSE HOUSE ARE WE OURSELVES IF INDEED <THE> [OUR] CONFIDENCE AND THE BOAST <THE> OF [OUR] HOPE UNTIL END UNSHAKABLE WE MAY HOLD. 6But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold firmly*NoteCloseNE, WH, BYZ, and TR include to the end. to our confidence and the hope of which we boast.
7THEREFORE, EVEN AS SAYS THE SPIRIT <THE> HOLY: TODAY IF THE VOICE OF HIM YOU SHALL HEAR, Do Not Harden Your Hearts (Psalm 95:1–11) 7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear His voice,
8NOT SHALL HARDEN THE HEARTS OF YOU AS IN THE REBELLION IN THE DAY <THE> OF TESTING IN THE WILDERNESS, 8do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness,
9WHERE TRIED ME THE FATHERS OF YOU BY TESTING ME AND SAW THE WORKS OF MINE 9where your fathers tested and tried Me, and for forty years saw My works.
10FORTY YEARS; [10] THEREFORE I WAS ANGRY WITH THE GENERATION THAT AND I SAID; ALWAYS THEY GO ASTRAY IN THE HEART; THEY THEMSELVES AND NOT HAVE THEY KNOWN THE WAYS OF MINE; 10Therefore I was angry with that generation, and I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known My ways. ’
11SO I SWORE IN THE WRATH OF MINE; [NOT] WILL THEY ENTER INTO THE REST OF MINE. 11So I swore on oath in My anger, They shall never enter My rest.’”*NoteClosePsalm 95:7–11 (see also LXX)
12DO TAKE HEED, BROTHERS, OTHERWISE THERE WILL BE IN ANY OF YOU A HEART EVIL OF UNBELIEF INTO <THE> FALLING AWAY FROM GOD [THE] LIVING; The Peril of Unbelief 12See to it, brothers, that none of you has a wicked heart of unbelief that turns away from the living God.
13BUT DO ENCOURAGE EACH OTHER EACH EVERY DAY WHILE THIS <THE> TODAY IT IS CALLED SO THAT NOT MAY BE HARDENED ONE OF YOU BY [THE] DECEITFULNESS <THE> OF SIN; 13But exhort one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
14PARTAKERS FOR <THE> OF CHRIST WE HAVE BECOME IF INDEED FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE ASSURANCE UNTO [THE] END FIRM WE SHALL HOLD; 14We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly to the end the assurance we had at first.
15AS THE SAYING: TODAY IF THE VOICE OF HIM YOU SHALL HEAR, NOT SHALL HARDEN THE HEARTS OF YOU AS IN THE REBELLION. 15As it has been said: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion.”*NoteClosePsalm 95:7–8
16WHO FOR [WERE THOSE] HAVING HEARD REBELLED? BUT SURELY ALL THOSE HAVING COME OUT OF EGYPT THROUGH MOSES? 16For who were the ones who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt?
17WITH WHOM NOW WAS HE INDIGNANT FORTY YEARS? SURELY WITH THOSE HAVING SINNED WHOSE <THE> BODIES FELL IN THE WILDERNESS? 17And with whom was God angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
18TO WHOM THEN DID HE SWEAR THAT NOT TO ENTER INTO THE REST OF HIM ONLY EXCEPT TO THOSE HAVING DISOBEYED? 18And to whom did He swear that they would never enter His rest? Was it not to those who disobeyed?
19AND WE SEE THAT NOT THEY WERE ABLE TO ENTER IN BECAUSE OF UNBELIEF. 19So we see that it was because of their unbelief that they were unable to enter.
