1 AND WHEN THEY DREW NEAR TO JERUSALEM AND CAME TO BETHPHAGE ON THE MOUNT <THE> OF OLIVES, THEN <THE> JESUS SENT TWO DISCIPLES
2 SAYING TO THEM; DO GO INTO THE VILLAGE WHICH [IS] IN FRONT OF YOU. AND IMMEDIATELY YOU WILL FIND A DONKEY TIED AND A COLT WITH HER; HAVING UNTIED [THEM] DO BRING [THEM] TO ME.
2 saying to them,
“Go into the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt beside her. Untie them and bring them to Me.
3 AND IF ANYONE TO YOU MAY SAY ANYTHING, YOU WILL SAY THAT THE LORD OF THEM NEED HAS, IMMEDIATELY THEN HE WILL SEND THEM.
3 If anyone questions you, tell him that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.
4 THIS THEN ALL HAS COME TO PASS THAT IT MAY BE FULFILLED THAT HAVING BEEN SPOKEN THROUGH THE PROPHET SAYING;
4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
5 DO SAY TO THE DAUGHTER OF ZION; BEHOLD THE KING OF YOU COMES TO YOU, GENTLE AND ALREADY RIDING ON A DONKEY EVEN UPON A COLT [THE] FOAL OF A BEAST OF BURDEN.
5 “Say to the Daughter of Zion,
‘See, your King comes to you,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”
6 HAVING GONE THEN THE DISCIPLES AND HAVING DONE EVEN AS DIRECTED TO THEM <THE> JESUS,
6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them.
7 THEY BROUGHT THE DONKEY AND THE COLT AND PUT UPON THEM THE CLOAKS OF THEM AND HE SAT ON THEM.
7 They brought the donkey and the colt and laid their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them.
8 THE NOW VERY GREAT CROWD SPREAD THEIR OWN <THE> CLOAKS ON THE ROAD, OTHERS NOW WERE CUTTING DOWN BRANCHES FROM THE TREES AND WERE SPREADING [THEM] ON THE ROAD.
8 A massive crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
9 THE NOW CROWDS WHICH ARE GOING BEFORE HIM AND THOSE FOLLOWING THEY WERE CRYING OUT SAYING: HOSANNA TO THE SON OF DAVID! BLESSED [IS] THE [ONE] COMING IN [THE] NAME OF [THE] LORD! HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST!
9 The crowds that went ahead of Him and those that followed were shouting:
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest!”
10 AND WHEN WAS ENTERING HE INTO JERUSALEM WAS STIRRED ALL THE CITY SAYING; WHO IS THIS?
10 When Jesus had entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?
11 <THE> AND THE CROWDS WERE SAYING; THIS IS THE PROPHET JESUS, THE [ONE] FROM NAZARETH <THE> OF GALILEE.
11 The crowds replied, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.
12 AND ENTERED <THE> JESUS INTO THE TEMPLE <THE> OF GOD AND CAST OUT ALL THOSE SELLING AND BUYING IN THE TEMPLE, AND THE TABLES OF THE MONEY CHANGERS HE OVERTURNED AND THE SEATS OF THOSE SELLING THE DOVES.
Jesus Cleanses the Temple
(Mark 11:15–19 ; Luke 19:45–48 ; John 2:12–25 )
12 Then Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those selling doves.
13 AND HE SAYS TO THEM; IT HAS BEEN WRITTEN: THE HOUSE OF MINE A HOUSE OF PRAYER WILL BE CALLED,’ YOU YOURSELVES HOWEVER IT MAKE A DEN OF ROBBERS.’
13 And He declared to them,
“It is written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer.’ But you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’
14 AND CAME TO HIM BLIND AND LAME IN THE TEMPLE, AND HE HEALED THEM.
14 The blind and the lame came to Him at the temple, and He healed them.
15 HAVING SEEN NOW THE CHIEF PRIESTS AND THE SCRIBES THE WONDERS THAT HE DID AND THE CHILDREN WHO ARE CRYING OUT IN THE TEMPLE AND SAYING; HOSANNA TO THE SON OF DAVID, THEY WERE INDIGNANT
15 But the chief priests and scribes were indignant when they saw the wonders He performed and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David!
16 AND SAID TO HIM; HEAR YOU WHAT THESE SAY? <THE> AND JESUS SAYS TO THEM; YES. SURELY SOMETIME YOU DID READ THAT OUT OF [THE] MOUTH OF BABES AND SUCKLINGS YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR YOURSELF PRAISE’?
16 “Do You hear what these children are saying? they asked.
“Yes, Jesus answered
“Have you never read:
‘From the mouths of children and infants
You have ordained praise’
17 AND HAVING LEFT THEM HE WENT OUT OF THE CITY TO BETHANY AND HE PASSED THE NIGHT THERE.
17 Then He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where He spent the night.
18 EARLY THEN HE IS COMING BACK INTO THE CITY HE BECAME HUNGRY,
19 AND HAVING SEEN FIG TREE ONE ALONG THE ROAD HE CAME TO IT AND NO [THING] FOUND ON IT ONLY EXCEPT LEAVES ALONE AND HE SAYS TO IT; CERTAINLY NO MORE FROM YOU FRUIT THERE MAY BE TO THE AGE. AND WITHERED IMMEDIATELY THE FIG TREE.
19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, He went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves.
May you never bear fruit again! He said. And immediately the tree withered.
20 AND HAVING SEEN [IT] THE DISCIPLES MARVELED SAYING; HOW SO QUICKLY WITHERED THE FIG TREE?
20 When the disciples saw this, they marveled and asked, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?
21 ANSWERING NOW <THE> JESUS SAID TO THEM; AMEN I SAY TO YOU; IF YOU SHALL HAVE FAITH AND NOT SHALL DOUBT, NOT ONLY THE [MIRACLE] OF THE FIG TREE WILL YOU DO, BUT EVEN IF TO THE MOUNTAIN THIS YOU SHALL SAY; DO BE TAKEN AWAY AND DO BE CAST INTO THE SEA, IT WILL COME TO PASS;
21 “Truly I tell you, Jesus replied,
“if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea, it will happen.
22 AND ALL THINGS AS MUCH AS MAYBE YOU SHALL ASK IN <THE> PRAYER BELIEVING, YOU WILL RECEIVE.
22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.
23 AND WHEN WAS COMING HE INTO THE TEMPLE CAME TO HIM TEACHING THE CHIEF PRIESTS AND THE ELDERS OF THE PEOPLE SAYING; BY WHAT AUTHORITY THESE THINGS ARE YOU DOING AND WHO TO YOU GAVE <THE> AUTHORITY THIS?
Jesus’ Authority Challenged
(Mark 11:27–33 ; Luke 20:1–8 )
23 When Jesus returned to the temple courts and began to teach, the chief priests and elders of the people came up to Him. “By what authority are You doing these things? they asked. “And who gave You this authority?
24 ANSWERING NOW <THE> JESUS SAID TO THEM; WILL ASK YOU I MYSELF ALSO THING ONE, WHICH IF YOU SHALL TELL ME I MYSELF ALSO TO YOU WILL SAY BY WHAT AUTHORITY THESE THINGS I DO.
24 I will also ask you one question, Jesus replied
and if you answer Me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
25 THE BAPTISM <THE> OF JOHN FROM WHERE WAS IT? FROM HEAVEN OR FROM MEN? <THE> AND THEY WERE REASONING AMONG THEMSELVES SAYING; IF WE SHALL SAY; FROM HEAVEN, HE WILL SAY TO US; BECAUSE OF WHY THEN NOT DID YOU BELIEVE IN HIM?
25 What was the source of John’s baptism? Was it from heaven or from men?
They deliberated among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven, He will ask ‘Why then did you not believe him?
26 IF HOWEVER WE SHALL SAY; FROM MEN, WE FEAR THE MULTITUDE; ALL FOR AS A PROPHET HOLD <THE> JOHN.
26 But if we say, ‘From men, we are afraid of the people, for they all regard John as a prophet.
27 AND ANSWERING <THE> JESUS THEY SAID; NOT DO WE KNOW. WAS SAYING TO THEM ALSO HE HIMSELF; NEITHER I MYSELF TELL YOU BY WHAT AUTHORITY THESE THINGS I DO.
27 So they answered “We do not know.
And Jesus replied
“Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
28 WHAT HOWEVER YOU THINK? A MAN HAD SONS TWO, AND HAVING COME TO THE FIRST HE SAID; SON, DO GO TODAY DO WORK IN THE VINEYARD OF MINE.
The Parable of the Two Sons
28 But what do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first one and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.
29 <THE> AND ANSWERING HE SAID; NOT I WANT TO; AFTERWARD HOWEVER HAVING REPENTED HE WENT.
29 ‘I will not, he replied But later he changed his mind and went.
30 AND HAVING COME THEN TO THE OTHER HE SAID LIKEWISE. <THE> AND ANSWERING HE SAID; I MYSELF [WILL] SIR; AND NOT DID HE GO.
30 Then the man went to the second son and told him the same thing.
‘I will, sir, he said. But he did not go.
31 WHICH OF THE TWO DID THE WILL OF THE FATHER? THEY SAY TO HIM: THE FIRST. SAYS TO THEM <THE> JESUS; AMEN I SAY TO YOU THAT THE TAX COLLECTORS AND THE PROSTITUTES GO BEFORE YOU INTO THE KINGDOM <THE> OF GOD.
31 Which of the two did the will of his father?
“The first, they answered.
Jesus said to them,
“Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.
32 CAME FOR JOHN TO YOU IN [THE] WAY OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND NOT YOU DID BELIEVE IN HIM; <THE> HOWEVER THE TAX COLLECTORS AND THE PROSTITUTES BELIEVED IN HIM. YOU YOURSELVES THEN HAVING SEEN NOT EVEN DID REPENT AFTERWARD <THE> TO BELIEVE HIM.
32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.
33 ANOTHER PARABLE DO HEAR: A MAN WHO THERE WAS A MASTER OF A HOUSE WHO PLANTED A VINEYARD AND A FENCE AROUND IT PLACED AND HE DUG IN IT A WINEPRESS AND HE BUILT A TOWER AND HE RENTED OUT IT TO FARMERS AND HE TRAVELED ABROAD.
The Parable of the Wicked Tenants
(Mark 12:1–12 ; Luke 20:9–18 )
33 Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it, and built a tower. Then he rented it out to some tenants and went away on a journey.
34 WHEN THEN DREW NEAR THE SEASON OF THE FRUITS, HE SENT THE SERVANTS OF HIM TO THE FARMERS TO RECEIVE THE FRUITS OF HIM.
34 When the harvest time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his share of the fruit.
35 AND HAVING TAKEN THE FARMERS THE SERVANTS OF HIM, THE ONE THEY BEAT, ANOTHER AND THEY KILLED, ANOTHER AND THEY STONED.
35 But the tenants seized his servants. They beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.
36 AGAIN HE SENT OTHER SERVANTS MORE THAN THE FIRST, AND THEY DID TO THEM LIKEWISE.
36 Again, he sent other servants, more than the first group. But the tenants did the same to them.
37 AFTERWARD THEN HE SENT TO THEM THE SON OF HIM SAYING; THEY WILL RESPECT THE SON OF MINE.
37 Finally, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son, he said.
38 <THE> BUT THE FARMERS HAVING SEEN THE SON SAID AMONG THEMSELVES; THIS IS THE HEIR; COME, LET US KILL HIM AND LET US HAVE THE INHERITANCE OF HIM.
38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and take his inheritance.
39 AND HAVING TAKING HIM THEY CAST [HIM] OUT OF THE VINEYARD AND KILLED [HIM].
39 So they seized him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
40 WHEN THEREFORE MAY COME THE MASTER OF THE VINEYARD, WHAT WILL HE DO <THE> FARMERS TO THOSE?
40 Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard returns, what will he do to those tenants?
41 THEY SAY TO HIM; [THE] WRETCHES GRIEVOUSLY HE WILL DESTROY THEM AND THE VINEYARD HE WILL RENT OUT TO OTHER FARMERS WHO WILL GIVE TO HIM THE FRUITS IN THE SEASONS OF THEM.
41 “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end, they replied “and will rent out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his share of the fruit at harvest time.
42 SAYS TO THEM <THE> JESUS; SURELY SOMETIME YOU DID READ IN THE SCRIPTURES: [THE] STONE WHICH REJECTED THOSE BUILDING, THIS HAS BECOME THE CHIEF CORNER. FROM [THE] LORD WAS THIS, AND IT IS MARVELOUS IN [THE] EYES OF US?’
42 Jesus said to them,
Have you never read in the Scriptures:
‘The stone the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
This is from the Lord,
and it is marvelous in our eyes’
43 BECAUSE OF THIS I SAY TO YOU THAT IT WILL BE TAKEN AWAY FROM YOU THE KINGDOM <THE> OF GOD AND IT WILL BE GIVEN TO A PEOPLE PRODUCING THE FRUITS OF IT.
43 Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.
44 AND THE [ONE] HAVING FALLEN ON <THE> STONE THIS WILL BE BROKEN; ON WHOMEVER BUT MAYBE IT MAY FALL, IT WILL GRIND TO POWDER HIM.
44 He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed.
45 AND HAVING HEARD THE CHIEF PRIESTS AND THE PHARISEES THE PARABLES OF HIM THEY KNEW THAT ABOUT THEM HE SPEAKS.
45 When the chief priests and Pharisees heard His parables, they knew that Jesus was speaking about them.
46 AND SEEKING HIM TO LAY HOLD OF THEY FEARED THE CROWDS, BECAUSE TO A PROPHET HIM THEY WERE HOLDING.
46 Although they wanted to arrest Him, they were afraid of the crowds, because the people regarded Him as a prophet.
